10 Common Shaving Mistakes you Must Avoid Making

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re doing well. Today’s post is about some of the common mistakes that most of us tend to make while shaving our legs and other parts of the body. As we already know, shaving is a super quick, convenient and inexpensive way to remove unwanted body hair. However, there are many ways in which it can go wrong, causing razor bumps and sore, irritated skin. So, if shaving is your preferred way of removing unwanted hair from your body, then read on to make sure that you’re avoid these common shaving mistakes.

Shaving mistakes must avoid

1. Not using a shaving cream:

While it is alright to use your razor dry every once in a while, especially if you’re in a hurry, you must make sure not to do this regularly. It is ideal to use a shaving cream (or any other product) to make sure that your razor works smoothly and doesn’t irritate your skin. Coconut oil and hair conditioner are great alternatives to a shaving cream.

2.  Using very hot water:

Avoid using water that is too hot in the belief that it is opening up your pores and helping you shave better. It’s important to stick to lukewarm or cool water to make sure your skin doesn’t dry out.

3.  Not applying enough pressure:

For a clean and close shave, it is important to apply a reasonable amount of pressure. If you shave lightly, then this is what might be causing broken or ingrown hair.

4.  Shaving very long hair:

You might think that it’s better to wait for your body hair to grow out long enough before you shave, but this is again a major cause for ingrown hair and skin irritation. It’s a better idea to shave regularly to avoid this problem.

5.  Shaving in the direction of your hair growth:

This is what many of us believe is the right way to do it. However, this is not necessarily the best way and it can lead to an ineffective shave. Sometimes, it’s better to shave in the opposite direction of your hair growth to achieve a smoother shave, but be careful while doing so to ensure that there are no nicks and cuts.

6.  Not moisturizing after you shave:

Once you have shaved your skin, you need to keep in mind that it is exfoliated, but also extremely dry and somewhat irritated. It’s very important to rehydrate and replenish your skin with a moisturizer or an oil after you are done shaving.

7.  Wearing tight clothes after shaving:

On the day that you have shaved, avoid wearing clothing like skinny jeans or any other type of clothing that rubs against your skin. This will further irritate your skin. Opt for loose and comfortable clothing instead.

8.  Not rinsing your blade during the shaving process:

After every swipe or a couple of swipes, you will need to rinse your razor head until running water. This will remove the hairs that are clogging the razor blade and will reduce the time and effort spent on shaving.

9.  Leaving your razor wet and damp:

Once you are done shaving, make sure to clean and dry your razor before storing it in a dry place. Leaving it wet and unclean can cause it to rust.

10.  Not changing the razor blades regularly:

You have to make sure that you’re not shaving with a dull and worn out razor blade, as this increases the time and effort spent on shaving and also makes you more prone to nicks and cuts. Make sure to change your razor blades on a regular basis, depending on how often you shave.
