7 Hakuhodo Eye Makeup Brushes Review

Hakuhodo Eye Makeup Brushes : J163H, G5528BkSL, J142,J146, J004G, J005, J5523

I have already reviewed the super amazing Hakuhodo face makeup brushes. Here’s my review on eye makeup brushes.

Hakuhodo Eyebrow Angled  Brush H3853 / J163H

Features : This eyebrow brush enables you to draw thin lines, especially in the area from the arch of the brow to the outer end of the brow. The bristles are made from resilient horse that can produce great coloring.

Price : Rs 1120 approx / $18

Review : What can I say about this brush. until I used this eyebrow brush I didn’t know that eyebrow brushes can be softer as well. I have always used eyebrow brushes that I have become a complete eyebrow fanatic over a period of time. Either I use an eyebrow pencil or a dark brown eyeshadow to fill in my brows. J163H is a a thin angled eyebrow brush. It feels super soft on the brows and picks the product just right. The brush has enough resistance that helps you fill the color in your brows. And it also has softness that helps to feather out the color gently across the brows. The short angle shape makes it perfect to follow the shape of the eye and give control over the thinner outer end of the brows. The thinness allows you to pick up just the right amount of product and you can totally build the color using it. A very controlled and gentle brush.

Hakuhodo Eyeshadow Brush Round H2903 / G5528BkSL

Features : Bristles combining a mix of blue squirrel and goat have the possibility for wonderful application of water-based products. The bristles are superbly soft on your skin and enable you to achieve natural blending of colors.

Price : Rs 1800 approx / $29

My Review : A fat pointy domed brush is how I’d describe it. It’s actually a fatter version of MAC 219 pencil brush. It’s a rather stiff but soft brush. It pretty much works like a pencil brush. You can use it to smudge your liner/ eyeshadow, for applying eyeshadow on lower lash line. The pointy shape helps to get the inner corner of the eyes easily. I find it extremely helpful in creating a soft wing using powder eyeshadow on the upper lash line. You can also use it to place the intense color in socket of your eyes. Even though it’s quite a stiff brush it is not scratchy and feels light on eyes. It does not tug the eyes at all. I have used it twice and it had totally retained its shape and there has been no falls outs.

Hakuhodo Eyeshadow Brush Round H3858 / J142

Features : The bristles are made from resilient yet soft goat that can produce great coloring. Smudging and blending colors can be easily achieved. Also ideal for highlighting.

Price : Rs 1120 approx / $18

Review : I have been wanting to get a brush such as this and the next one (J146) for the longest time. It’s a very soft brush especially for the crease area. It has slightly dome shape that helps in giving a very precise crease application. You can also use it for applying eyeshadow in the outer V. Since the brush has a dome shape(neither too pointy nor too flat), you can totally play with how much color you want to pick from an eyeshadow. You can use just the tip for the super light application or totally swirl the color and use the brush for intense application. Since it is made up of natural fibers I use it only for powder products. I use it a lot of smokey eyes. The bristles are not too long so you still have a great control over the brush. This definitely is one of my favourite brushes from the brand. Gives perfect application and blends the color seamlessly.

Hakuhodo Eyeshadow Brush Round H3859 / J146

Features : The bristles are made from resilient yet soft goat that can produce great coloring. Smudging and blending colors can be easily achieved. Also ideal for highlighting.

Price : Rs 1,055 approx / $17

Review : This is not one of my favourite brush. It has partly to do with my eye shape as well. It’s a thin longish brush. It’s absolutely great for very precise crease application. I would say that someone with small eyes should consider picking this brush. Since the brush is thin, it does not go all over the place. For someone with small / hooded eyes this would work great in blending out the color as well. For me it works as a very precise placement brush and I have to use another brush to blend out the color. Not a must have but the brush itself has no issues. It feels soft, does not shed and the brush has held its shape even after 2 washes. I personally prefer the J 142.

Features : Our standard eye shadow brush. Easy to use, even for makeup beginners. Can be used for the upper eyelid area.

Price : Rs 1250 approx/ $20

Review : A  no fuss perfect eyeshadow placement brush. The brush itself is suuper soft and picks up the color just fine. It is a closer version of MAC 239 brush. This brush is less firmer and denser than MAC 239 though. The brush has enough resistance to pick the color and place it gently on the lids. The brush is not scratchy at all. You can use the flat tip of the brush to apply the color on the lower lash line as well. A brilliant brush and if you use eyeshadows a brush such as this is a must have. 🙂

Review : When I saw this brush I thought of two things : lip brush and tight-line brush. I have used it as both. But I prefer using it for tight-lining the eyes. I don’t like to mix eye and lip brushes but I used this one to test it out. As lip brush, it works great. The smallness of the brush helps it to get to every nook and corner of the lip. And for someone like me who has thin lips, this worked like magic. But on the other hand, I don’t use lip brushes too often so I prefer using this brush as a tight-lining brush. Have you tried to use those stiff angled brushes for tight-lining? I have. And I have always failed. I have managed to poke the corner of angled brushes in my eye way too many times. so I have quit doing that. I rely mostly on pencils now. 😐  This brush has changed everything. The tip is flat and rounded so there are no chances of the brush poking your eye at all. The rounded-ness of the brush helps it move with the shape of the eye. The bristles are tightly packed so it picks up the color very well and you can tight-line your eyes in one stroke only. I mostly use a gel eyeliner for this brush but you can use an eyeshadow as well to work with it.The brush is soft and not scratchy at all.  A MUST have genius!

Hakuhodo Eyeshadow Brush Round and Flat H3916 / J5523

Price : Rs 1120 approx / $18

Review : One can easily relate this brush to MAC 217 brush. I love MAC 217 to bits and this brush also is no exception. You can use just one brush to place the color on the lid, use it for crease work, and blend it as well. If you have to travel you can pretty much travel with just this brush  This brush is veryyyy soft and picks the color lightly..giving you enough room not to go overboard. You can always build the eyeshadow color using this brush. Also, the brush is not too big so the bristles do not go all over the place when you blend the color. The bristles are not at all scratchy. They have very feathery touch to the lids. Couldn’t ask for more. 🙂

Overall, I am heads over heels in love with Hakuhodo brushes. They are pretty much dream brushes and once you have them you don’t want to use any other brush. The brushes are expensive but they have little room for error. You’d never ever regret investing in these amazing makeup tools. I just wish that the names of brushes were either embossed in the handles or had easier numbers.

You can purchase Hakuhodo brushes from their website : http://www.hakuhodousa.com/ I got mine within 5-6 days of placing the order. It was that quick. 🙂
