They are everywhere. On the ramps, on the screens, in the classrooms, inside the cabins, on the streets. Everywhere you look, the fashion conscious people are sporting the trend in some form or the other. Hair accessories have never been a bigger trend. We have seen it on the biggest ramps since last season.

Unique and versatile hair styles add to a person’s style quotient. But honestly, how many of us have the time and patience to even think about what we want to do with our hair every morning! Hair accessories manage to upgrade any haircut and type, making our tresses look hot yet keeping them out of our face. If you like to add detailing to your look and do it in no time, then your hair accessories are your new BFF.

Hair accessories come in a variety of styles to choose from. There are the bling bling ones and the subtle and elegant ones. There are office wear types and college wear types. From glam to classic, hair accessories are suitable for all occasions. There is something for all hair lengths and for all ages. They add to your style factor without burning a whole in your pocket. Although, the movie Aisha failed at the box office, it inspired women of all ages to sport the trend confidently.

Types:
1. Hair Bands:

Also called Alice bands, these can be plastic or metallic. They suits all hair lengths. They can be plain formal ones, cute girly ones or bling bling party ones.

2. Hair Pins:

These can be tic tacs, bobby pins etc…they come in different sizes..so when you want your layered hair to keep off your pretty face, just pin them up and still look hot..

3. Hair Sticks:

These are our very own ‘juda’ pins..they hold your buns and other updos in place.

4. Hair Combs:

These are small combs with embellished or decorated ends. These are used to back comb a section of hair and then hold the section there. It can also work as a mini comb in your purse.

5. Hair Ties:

Hair ties, rubber bands, scrunchies…whatever you might call them, come in various styles and are the basic hair accessory. Regular and boring hair ties are just that- boring. Have fun with colours are styles while you tie your locks in pony tails, plaits, braids etc..

6. Bandos:

These can be worn as normal hair bands or on forehead..who can forget Zeenat Aman in Laila-o-laila.. Depending on their embellishments, these can give you that glam or bohemian look..

7. Fascinators:

These are more elaborate hair gear pieces. These are available in forms of clips, hair bands, barrettes etc. basically these are more bulky. These are very formal (think polo matches).

Hair accessories are your go-to tools when you don’t have the time to style your hair. you can just put up a hair band and you are done! Otherwise you can spend an entire evening doing an elaborate updo and then finally styling it with a fascinator barrette.
In Delhi you can find reasonably priced fashionable hair accessories at all major stores. For example Shoppers Stop, Globus, Westside, Forever 21. Also there are specialised accessories stores like Monsoon Accessorize in Select Citywalk saket, DLF Ambince Mall Vasat Kunj , Khan Market; Miss Jo in Greater Kailash M block market, Select Citywalk Saket, South Extension; Aldo accessories in Citywalk Saket etc.

  1. Hey aashima, nice article, i think hair accessories look super cute !!! in college i used to wear lots of colourful clips and hair bands. but i have never figured how to wear sticks ? can you tell me how to wear hair sticks and hair combs ??

    Just pick a hair comb accessory and brush it through your hair. It gets stuck as you comb it backward through your hair.The only time you’d face problem using hair combs is if you have very silky hair. the comb keeps slipping in that case.

    1. i dont have that problem no silky hair hehe, Where should i put it ? Won’t it look odd in the middle of nowhere? And am i supposed to make a half pony kind of portion?

  3. Hey Ashima….very nice review :yes: :yes: :yes: ….i just luuuvvvvv hairbands, clips and sticks….last year had a pretyy bad front bangs haircut…n hairbands were my saviours until i grew dem back!!!!! N now am hooked to dem!!!!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

    cant use hair combs…. 🙁 dey slip offfff as i hav silky hair…
    n d hair pins stay at d back…bt on d side dey start slipping again…. 🙁
    n hair bands if worn for long give dat shape to the hair…:-(

  7. hair combs are very handy for French roll….I love them to accessorize my French bun which helps it to stay in place for a longer time too…it looks very pretty :-* :-* :-*

    @ Priyanka: i love gold accessories too..i bought some golden bobby pins from miss jo. they have them in all colors! also you can look for them in all the stores i mentioned in the last para of the article 🙂
    @ Smita T: m in colg n i use a lot of these:) yes hair combs are used as Rati mentioned. hair sticks are the chopsticks kind sticks that r supposd to be inserted in a hair bun to keep it in place.

  9. Hairbands made a huge comeback last year na… i got several…. my fav are 2 large ones in purple and white plaid… They are the best when you want to go out on a bad hair day!

    I have never been able to use combs and sticks… they slip in my hair 🙁
