9 Awesome Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mothers Day 2010 will be celebrated on Sunday, May 9. Our mothers have been and will be our support system forever. We have our spats and we have our arguments but at the end of the day its back to the usual chit chat, nothing stays in beween a mother and daughter for long. Mothers have always been the giving one whether it’s the pocket money when we are kids, or the advice when we are teenagers, or the piece of mind and comfort that we look out for at our marital home when we go there after our marriage (married women would know what I’m talking about, no I’m not married but I have a married sister so I know how it feels). She is there for you giving you anything you want at any time or point of your life. The only chance we get to give something back to her is on MOTHER’S DAY. Even the costliest gift in the world can’t compare to our mothers love for us but it just helps to show the love and gratitude that we have for her. So every year I make most of this opportunity and I would really love if all of you do the same to make the most loved woman of our lives feel precious and pampered on this day.

By gifts I really don’t mean flowers, cards, clothes etc. Give her something you know she wouldn’t buy it for herself, buy her a luxury she wants but won’t ever get it for herself. So here are some ideas for you lovely ladies to make this Mother’s Day special for your Mum. And by Mum I don’t mean just your biological Mum but your mother-in-law as well. Don’t involve the hubby in the plan and hog all the love from her when she feels proud and happy to have a loving and caring daughter-in-law 😉

1. Time: Yes time is the best gift that an adult child can give to their mom. When we grow up we just get so engrossed in our own world that we hardly ever have time to spend with our moms. Studying, exams, friends, phones, facebook, husband, kids, work so much going on in our lives, that we don’t even remember the last time we hugged or kissed her.  So the best ever gift that a daughter can give and a mother will always cherish is, her daughters time. Wake her up with a nice breakfast, if you are not the cooking types, take her out for breakfast. Just make it clear to her that she ain’t stepping in the kitchen today. Then take her out for shopping and let her buy her own present. I know Moms being Moms won’t ever pick up anything expensive when you take them out for shopping. But we being the smarter kids always know by the look in her eyes what she actually wants. So buy her what she wants and not what she asks for. If she never wears western outfits take her to a store and make her try some western outfits, if she likes them buy her some but if not she will always be happy that you gave her the experience of trying those clothes out. Book tickets for a movie in advance, and then take her out for lunch. Finish the day with a nice meal, prepared or ordered by you. But the most important of all HUG her and let her know she is the world for you.

2. Trip: Gift her, a 2 day trip to somewhere she wants to go. Coordinate with the children of your moms friends and make a group booking for them. Take care of all the bookings. Hire a driver that is trustworthy, book an Innova and pack them off to mussorie. It would be a ladies trip out and she is definitely going to love it. I emphasized on two days because our moms have the tendency of panicking if they stay out for too long without their kids or husband. So we want it to make a ‘happy trip’ rather than a ‘what’s happening back at home stress trip’.

3. Spa day: Gift her a day at spa. Why just her make it a pamper day for both of you. Go to a spa. Relax, rejuvenate, pamper yourself with massages, pedicures and facials. This is something I’m sure no mother will experience without our help. All my mom’s friends have kids of the similar age so we are friends as well. We have planned out a spa party for our mothers this Mother’s day. We are using one of my friends basement as venue, we have talked to the caterer, have planned out a nice menu and everything else is in place. Except the most important thing, the masseuse, we are finding someone who can come at our place. We have our pedicures manicures team ready. We all have talked to our dads so we won’t have to pay for the party, the bill will be footed by our dads. So most probably the party is going to take place.

4. Spa kit: Spa session doesn’t fits your budget. Become her masseuse yourself. Buy her a nice spa kit and give her a nice pedicure with a nice foot massage. You can buy the facial kits and give her a facial as well.

5. Hobby: Remember when we were kids mom used to gift us hobby classes. Do the same for her, enroll her in a dance class if she is fond of dancing, a cookery class, makeup class, saree draping course or a computers class, so that she can be on FB too 😛 But make sure it is something that she enjoys and not a burden for her. Enroll yourself with her if you can, that ways you get to spend time together.
6. Makeup: My mom likes to do her makeup but hates spending money on it. She uses whatever there is in my stash. The only thing she buys is lipsticks, that too because I don’t use them otherwise I’m sure she would have stopped buying them as well. So buy her a nice makeup kit with everything according to her skin type and color. But don’t forget to show her how to do makeup. Give her a full makeup session that day before going out. She will love to be your model for the day.
7. Accessory: If your mom is eyeing something expensive from sometime that you know of, get her that and she will know that you do notice when she rants and rambles in front of you about something she liked. My mom wants a branded bag from quiet sometime but whenever she has money she tends to go and buy jewellery. So my brother, sister and I are going to gift her a branded bag this mothers day. Now LV or Gucci are just out of our budget. So we will be checking out Fendi and Burberry, but even if they don’t come in our range, we will be buying her a Guess bag for sure.

8. Skincare treatment: You can take her to Kaya or some other such clinic to get her a consultation and then buy her a package as suggested by the derma. If your mom is the figure conscious types then buy her a tummy tuck programme or an inch loss package from VLCC.

9. Makeover and portfolio: This is the most exciting one. Gift her a session where she will get her makeup and hair done by professionals, then a stylist is going to style her look. When she is ready to face the camera she will pose like a professional model and get her folio clicked. My Jiju is one of the most awesome husbands I have seen. He told my little niec to coordinate with me for a Mothers day gift for my sister and we have planned this for her. Since my niece, just 7, is working, she wants to pay for it from her own money, and we have coordinated it through her contacts from the modeling scenario. So cherish the time you have with your mom and try to love your Mom-in-law just as you would your mother.
