My Experience with Algenist Purifying and Replenishing Cleanser:

This cleanser comes with a pump dispenser. It has a very rich creamy consistency which produces tonnes of lather with the smallest amount. Less than half a pump is needed per use, hence a bottle will last you a long time.

This cleanser leaves my skin thoroughly cleansed and it is also effective at removing everyday makeup, but for best results, I remove my mascara with an eye makeup remover prior (which I do anyway). Due to its incredibly frothy tendency, it also pairs great with my Clarisonic.

It is gentle on the skin, but I don’t find this cleanser to be hydrating or replenishing for my severely parched skin; it does leave my skin feeling a bit tight and if my skin is already dealing with dry patches this will further advance it. Hence using a good bit of moisturizer post using this cleanser is a must for my dry skin. My husband who has oily skin does not experience such effects when he uses it.

It also takes a good bit of rinsing (more so than I would do with my Cetaphil cleanser) to get rid of all the lather.

It has a moderately strong herbal scent. It is not off-putting but neither is it my favorite scent by any means. It does tend to sting the eye quite a lot if it gets into it.

Overall, I am happy with the performance of this cleanser, but I don’t necessarily think it’s worth the price. I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t help with the dryness of the skin and seems to aggravate it if I don’t follow up with a moisturizer, but I do like the fact that it cleans the skin of all impurities and makeup thoroughly. This cleanser would be best suited for normal to oily skin.

Pros of Algenist Purifying and Replenishing Cleanser:

  • Just a little goes a long way. Less than a dime size is needed per use.
  • Cleans skin of all impurities and moderate amount of makeup.
  • One-step cleanser.
  • Produces tonnes of lather, pairs well with Clarisonic cleansing system.
  • Paraben free.

Cons of Algenist Purifying and Replenishing Cleanser:

  • Might cause already dry skin to feel even more parched and will not improve dry patches.
  • Not better than drugstore cleansers, hence not worth the high price in my opinion.
