Anti-Rape Devices

Hi ladies,

Did you hear about what Nirbhaya’s rapist had to say? For those who didn’t. He had the audacity to utter these words. “While being raped, she shouldn’t have fought back. She should have just remained silent and allowed the rape”. This is one line that prompted me to write today’s post 🙁 .

Aren’t you tired of listening to one after another rape case story? Apparently our politicians, police or even the general public isn’t. Instead of the implementation of strict anti rape laws we are forced to read upon anti rape devices. In today’s world a girl’s safety is truly in her own hands. At the time of crisis no one will help her (in most of the cases), so we need to be well equipped with everything that we will need in case we are attacked.

Pepper Spray.

This is the first and most talked about self defense tool. The use of this spray makes breathing difficult, and swells the veins in the eyes. It makes the eyes shut for a while. This is not a fool proof plan, but it will set your attacker back by some time and you will be able to run off from the situation.

A whistle that can be worn as jewellery.

These come in all shapes, sizes and designs. You can wear it on a daily basis whenever you are travelling alone. Whenever you feel a threat to yourself, you can just blow the whistle. It has a very high decibel noise which will take the attacker by surprise and will hopefully deter him from taking any further step.

Buzzing device that can be attached to your handbag.

90% of women carry a handbag with them while going out. These little buzzing things are attached to your handbag as a key chain. It allows easy access for your hands to reach and has a 90 decibel alarm sound when pulled. These can also be attached to your mobile phone.

Anti molestation jacket.

Two girls from NIFT designed these jackets. This jacket sends shock waves on detecting unwanted advances. It is available in acrylic as well as denim. The current is activated by a button in it which on activation catches the offender off-guard and incapacitates him.

Smart phone apps.

There are so many Android and iOS apps available today. Every girl should have one in her cell phone. They all work on the same principle; if you are in distress the app will send a help message along with your location to all your emergency contacts. SOS Emergency, bSafe and Vith U are some of the apps available.

Anti rape necklace or bracelet.

This will also come handy in an emergency situation. This device comes with a button. When you press the button, you will receive a fake call on your cell phone. If you keep the button pressed for 3 seconds, it will send out an SOS text message to your emergency number, along with your location.

Any kind of self defence training.

In the situation of an emergency, we probably won’t be able to use these devices. But one thing that will surely take us out of these situations is to knowing how to pack a punch or too. Every girl should know  a few self defence techniques that will go a long way in deterring your attacker.

If nothing works kick him where it hurts and run!
