How To Apply Kajal: Ask IMBB

Ahalya asks:

Hi,

Can you please suggest me how to apply thick kajal on water line. I failed to apply it properly due to my thick eyelids. I would like to apply a thin line of kajal below the water line and also suggest me a good kajal which stays for a longer period.

  1. maybelline colossal kajal is superb and lakme eyeconic is gr8 too…u see the prob here is the kajal applied on lower water line shares itself with the upper water line. so u make sure u tight line ur upper water line…meaning applying kajal on the inside of your top eye lashes. lift your eye lid upwards and you can notice the water line i am talking about….after tight lining blink two three times and you will notice a thin line of kajal already on your lower water line…u will understand about the sharing part…try this….it is really tricky and u might poke your self some times but its very easy once you get used to the feel of it. this ensures that both water lines are properly coated and the kajal stays right where you want it to stay.

    1. Well explained Dharani….n i totally connect to it when you talk abt d tricky part of tight lining….i have tried it so many times bt my eyes still hate it when i even try to touch the upper water line with the kajal tip…i kind of feel a insanely strong tickling sensation n my eye blinks immediately leading me to poke my eye…n then its a total mess….. i am tryng so hard to get good at that…but i guess i have super-sensitive eyes….. 🙁 🙁

    2. good explanation dharani… I will try this… btw one quick question wont the kajal go inside the eyes if we apply kajal on upperline??

      1. no not at all…will it go if applied on water line…no right…and eyes have their own mechanism to clean that stuff out..i now cause my mother is a doctor and she herself does this…

  2. I agree with Dharini. I myself did not understand the importance of tightlining for such a long time. If you apply gel liner (like the maybelline dreamliner) you will be able to do it neatly and effortlessly, because the brush doesnt poke much while tightlining and it stays on forever. 🙂

  3. hi ahalya, that is a pretty name! 🙂
u can try this too, esp if u thick lids, while “waterlining” press ur lower lid with ur finger so that the u can view more of the waterline, then apply a gel liner, as i feel they stays on better compared to any kajal pencil…n u can dip ur pencil into ur gel liner pot & use the pencil to apply the gel..u can similarly tight line ur lids too..the sharper the pencil is, the thinner will be ur kajal line…for a thick application wiggle the pencil with gel on it well between ur lower lashes as thick as u want the line to be, n using a Q-tip clean out or remove any excess thickness, maybelline gel liner is a very good 1 & easily available, if ur kajal on ur lower waterline sudges, use a black eyeshadow to set it, u can use a Q-tip to set it, if u don’t prefer using a brush in that area. hope this helps 🙂

    1. Hi Kitu, gel liners, in general, are not recommended for waterlines, but many people use it because it doesn’t irritate their eyes. You can try applying it , and if it does not irritate your eye, then its fine if you use the gel liner once in a while. For daily use, however, I would recommend a normal kajal like Lotus Herbal Kajal etc.

  4. i would say go for lakme kohl ultimate (from absolute range)…even if u apply it thick, it stays…problem with maybelline collosal and lakme eyeconic is that they smudge like hell if applied thick…but lakme kohl ultimate wont

  5. and btw…when applying a gel liner….u have to be sure the bristles dont fall out…beacuse they are really difficult for our eyes to clean and if stuck inside of the eyelids…u will develop a really bad infection and might need doctor help as well… i have experience in this so please avoid gel liners unless ifs life or death….eyes are more imp right than kajals….so please stick to pencil ones only max. also gel liners though not irritating have more chemicals than kajals.
