Avène Diacnéal Cream: Treatment Care for Acne Prone Skin

I have combination to oily skin which is prone to whiteheads and zits, also due to previous history of acne I have few old spots and scars which refuse to budge no matter what I try! Hence I am always in search for products which will help me with spots, scars and prevent further formation of zits. Avene is one of my trusted brand which I use for my skin care. I have been using Avene Cleanance Gel since last year and totally love it so when I saw Diacneal available in an online store I immediately bought it.
Avene Diacneal cream
I am a big believer of changing the skin care products every 2 to 3 times a year and by changing I don’t mean experimenting. I have few trusted brands and products which I use for my face and keep rotating between them. Why? As we use products on our face our skin tends to get used to them over a period of time. So if some products were working for you in the past and has stopped working there may be a chance that your skin has got use to it and stop reacting. In such cases it is always better to switch to a back for a month or so and again switch back. For me this really works!

Avene Diacneal Emulsion
I usually use my Vichy’s Normaderm Nuit Cream as night cream but due to hot and humid weather of KL my skin’s been breaking out a lot than usual. I have been using Diacneal for more than couple of weeks now so thought why not review it for you all.

Fyi – Avene has stopped manufacturing Diacneal and has come out with its new version called Tricneal.

My Experience with Avène Diacnéal Cream

Avene Diacneal treatment emulsion comes in small white tube packaging. It has extremely small nozzle and dispenses very very small quantity of cream. This must be done to restrict over use of the cream since over usage can be harmful to skin. Also in this case small is more so always start with little quantity. The cream itself is light yellowish creamish in color and is quite thick in consistency. This cream is little tricky to apply, if you apply way too much it will ball up and does not get absorbed well, also it’ll make you very pale yellow like jaundice! So be careful while applying this cream take very little quantity

Also since the cream contains retinal it makes your face very sensitive so sunscreen is a must! Start using the cream 2 to 3 times a week and slowly increasing it to every night. This way your skin will get used to it and will not have any reaction. Now the big question does it work? I would say Yes and No.

Yes it definitely helps in keeping the skin clearer and keeping acne and zits at bay. It also helps in reducing spots and fades scars too. But it does not help in preventing new acne. If you feel a zit is appearing and if you apply the same for couple of says the zit will reduce and disappear but it will not prevent from new pimples and zits forming. Also the effects are not long lasting, this may be since its only been 2 to 3 weeks I have been using this and may be it’ll be more effective in long term.

Overall I would say its not a must have but yes with regular usage it definitely helps to keep skin clean and clear. The only con being I find it very expensive! Also first time users please make sure you do a patch test before applying it directly on face since it does cause mild tingling sensation when first applied.

  1. Good morning everyone:) Parita what u said is so right. We should always make sure we use different skincare products at regular intervals. You know I mistook avene for aveeno initially-thats a brand best known for its haircare. There is no winter in KL?

  2. parta, it’s very rarely we find products in the market that help in reducing the scars and marks. Atleast this one does that. I find it quite impressive. thanks for the review. 🙂

  3. 6 % Glycolic acid is available in India easily as Glyco-6 cream and is a mild chemical peel. And Retinal in Retino A

Ladies, please use this creme only in the evenings, Retinal is a photo sensitizer. And sunscreen as you rightly mention, Parita.

Also a word of caution- gals who are pregnant, planning pregnancy or likely to be pregnant, please stay away from Retinoids like tretinoin, retinol etc or consult a dermatologist or your obstetrician before use

  4. Paritaaaaaaa………I wanted to try this out since sooooo long, but I cudnt find any reviews on it online 🙁 prolly coz the co. has introduced triacneal 😐
