bareMinerals Cupcake 100% Natural Lip Gloss Review

By Atika Anjum

It’s the trend of matte cream lip glosses, but going matte every day is not a great option, especially in winters when the lips are their chapped best. I always stock up on lip glosses for winter as they don’t weigh your face down like a regular lipstick, plus they hide the dreaded winter chapped lips very well.

My Take on bareMinerals Cupcake 100% Natural Lip Gloss:

On my last trip to Sephora, I got myself a bareMinerals 100% lip gloss in the shade “Cupcake.” The packaging of the lip gloss is in a long transparent tube and the cap has a matte smooth finish to it. According to bareMinerals, their lip gloss is one of a kind because it has not one but six oils in it to provide the ultimate hydration. The lip gloss contains Jojoba, Sesame, Sunflower, Cupuacu Butter, vitamin E and Pomegranate seed oil. Now apart from these oils, it also has honeysuckle flower extract for added moisturization.

Now, I despise sticky lip glosses, I was just hoping that the lip gloss is not sticky on my lips; luckily, I liked the way it felt on my lips. The cupcake lip gloss is a cute rose pink color. I really liked the way it smoothly glided on my lips and it has a yummylicious vanilla scent, which made me feel like I was digging into a vanilla ice cream.

According to bareMinerals, the lip gloss does not contain any artificial dyes, so I was surprised at the color which is nicely pigmented.

What I did not like is that the lip gloss is so smooth that without a lip liner, it gives your lips a bleeding effect (which is not a pretty sight). All the oils inside this gloss really do work their magic on the lips, as I noticed my lips becoming noticeably smooth and softer after a couple of hours. I also liked the fact that when the lip gloss fades (it stayed put on my lips for a good two hours), it leaves a subtle hint of pink stain on the lips.

Pros of bareMinerals Cupcake 100% Natural Lip Gloss:

  • It is preservative and paraben free.
  • It has a mix of numerous oils to hydrate and condition the lips.
  • It glides smoothly on the lips.
  • It doesn’t have the sticky lip gloss feel.
  • It has a great vanilla scent.
  • It does not have any artificial dyes.
  • The lip gloss stays on the lips for a long time.
  • Would look good on all skin tones.

Cons of bareMinerals Cupcake 100% Natural Lip Gloss:

  • The lip gloss requires a liner to avoid the bleeding lips look.
  • The lip gloss is quite expensive, retails for $15

Final Verdict:
I really like the rose pink color of this bareMinerals lip gloss. I also like the moisturizing and hydrating properties of this gloss. What I don’t like is the price tag as I can buy similar shade lip gloss from any drugstore brand at half the price. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because of the price.

  1. Love the shade! If only it didn’t bleed…

I beg your pardon, but the price of the product mentioned in Indian rupees is incorrect. At the current rate of exchange, the price should be between INR 900 to INR 1000.
