bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be on the bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo.

bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Du

Product Description:
A dimensional duo of silky, ultra-fine, baked translucent powders to diffuse the look of pores and imperfections.

What it does:  Two distinct finishes give your complexion an effortlessly fresh, and not flat, appearance. The matte powder absorbs oil and is the perfect setting powder. Glow, infused with rose gold pearls, adds sheer luminosity for highlighting and strobing. Developed to instantly vanish on all skin tones, this duo of ultra-fine translucent powders features unique baked technology that delivers a creamy, cushioned formula with a luxurious feel.  This set contains: 2 x 0.31 oz Invisible Light Translucent Powder in Matte, Glow.
What else you need to know:  For best results, apply with the Dual-Finish Brush. Use the dark side of the brush to sweep Matte onto shine-prone areas or all-over face to help set makeup. Using the light side of the brush, apply Glow to accentuate features, including the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and décolletage.

My Experience with bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo:

Packaging:  I do love the whole concept and packaging for this product. It is a duo of both matte and glow powder in one to help you customize the finish you want. The compact is lightweight, does not feel cheap and closes securely. It also has a decent-sized mirror inside. There is no applicator or any slot for it provided.

Texture, Usage and Results: Matte side:  The matte side is a very firmly pressed stark white powder, but thankfully, it does not impart any color on the skin. It goes on almost completely transparent on the skin, in fact, it is so transparent that you might wonder if anything even coming off on your brush or on the skin. You have to really dig your brush in it to be able to pick up the powder since it is so firm. I had a hard time getting a swatch to show up on my skin.

As per claims, it does mattify the skin and takes away shine, but it does not leave my skin looking ashy or chalky. This powder is very feather light on the skin. I find that even with my dry skin, I can use this with ease and it does not highlight or cling to my dry patches. I do have some oily parts on my face like my chin and under eyes which this product does mattify, while making the skin look “airbrush” smooth, but I did not find it to have great oil control properties. Even with my mostly dry skin the oily areas of my skin started developing shine by 6 hours. Hence I mostly use this as a finishing powder and not necessarily as a setting power. It also works great to dust off my bake with.

Glow side:  The glow side in the first few uses did leave me underwhelmed. I am used to getting “Bam, Pow, in your face” highlight thanks to being spoiled by my Becca highlighters and this glow side leave a very subtle, very natural kind of a glow to the skin (see FOTD below). The shimmer is very fine, not too apparent on the skin and it does not have a strong base color to it, it is also mostly transparent. I must admit this kind of a glow has grown on me, but it will not replace my love for stronger highlights. Also, with this side, you really have to get in there and dig your brush to get some product out.

Overall, I don’t have any strong feeling for this product. It is so-so in my opinion. I do really like the 2-in-1 concept of it, but maybe if the powders weren’t so stiff and the better performing, I might have loved this even more. I do think it is a good product for gals who go for a no makeup makeup look on a regular basis as the powders don’t look like powder on the skin. They smooth, blur and perfect the skin and the glow side leaves a very natural-looking subtle highlight which perfectly complements that kind of a look. The matte side is good as a finishing powder but not on its own. I love bareMinerals products, but I don’t think this is a must-have item.

In the FOTD, used the matte side as a finishing powder under my eyes after “baking” with my La Mer Powder and the glow side on the high points of my cheeks (I know its barely noticeable).

Pros of bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo:

  • 2 in 1 product with a matte and a glow side.
  • Both powders are very lightweight and do not feel powder-y or chalky on the skin.
  • The matte side does smooth and blur on the skin.
  • The glow side offers a very subtle natural looking highlight.
  • Matte side does take away shine upon application.
  • Best used as a finishing powder.

Cons of bareMinerals Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo:

  • The powders are very stiff; you have to dig your brush in them to get any product on.
  • The powders are so sheer and transparent you cannot get an idea how much you are using.
  • Matte side was able to mattify upon application but wasn’t able to keep shine away all day.
