Beauty Blender Micro.Mini Review

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini Review

After reviewing a couple of skin care products, I thought I will share something more interesting – a makeup tool. By now, everyone and their aunt knows about the Beauty Blender. I jumped the gun pretty late and recently bought one because I was so happy using my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (reviewed earlier). However, recently, while picking up the sponge, I came across a new release from BeautyBlender – the BeautyBlenderMicro.Mini. So, I thought I would give it a spin and let you know whether to go in for this splurge or not.

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

Product Details:

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

What it is:

A duo of mini sponge applicators that double in size once wet—making them easy to contour, highlight, and precisely apply makeup onto the smallest parts of the face. This makeup blender lets you perfect makeup application in the inner eye corners, brow bones, sides of nose, cheeks, and more. Designed with exclusive beautyblender® material and one fourth the size of the original sponge, these non-disposable micro.mini sponges are the perfect tool for concealing small areas. Simply wet them so that they increase in size so that you can highlight and contour your face and ensure less makeup waste.  This product is an Allure Best of Beauty winner. These two micro.mini sponges feature an open cell structure that fills with a small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be “full” so that the product sits on top of the sponge rather than being absorbed, allowing you to use less product every time. When wet, beautyblender doubles in size and becomes even softer, returning to its original size once it air dries.

Price:

$17.95.  A single Beauty Blender costs $19.95 each.

Packaging:

It comes packaged in a cylindrical transparent plasticbox – just like the Original Beauty Blender. It has a small plastic holder with cuts – in which the 2 sponges rest.

My Experience with Beauty Blender Micro.Mini:

Neon green, squishy, tear-dropped and just slightly bigger than an almond – this one is a fairly expensive treat! Thankfully, it does increase in size a little, when wet – so gets a tad bit easier to hold.

Why was this created? This was created to reach all the nook and crannies which the beauty blender isn’t able to reach effectively and for highlighting and contouring. So it’s supposed to be used to apply concealer around the hard to reach eye area, the zits (without creating a big splotch on them), detailing of the face with highlighters or bronzers.

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

Is it not possible to do the above-mentioned jobs with the Beauty Blender? Honestly, I had no complaints with the Beauty Blender, I was able to do the foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush and highlighter – all with the same sponge.

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

So, do you really need the BeautyBlenderMicro.Mini?Yes! While the Beautyblender was able to do most of the jobs including a flawless finish to the skin, concealing, highlighting and sculpting; the BeautyBlenderMicro.Mini takes it to a whole new level. The corrector and concealer application becomes much more precise and extremely easy. While you could highlight the cheeks very well with the Beauty Blender, the Micro.Mini makes it possible to highlight even the inner corners of the eye precisely, the brow bone, the cupid’s bow.  I have tried powder, liquid and cream highlighters – all seem to work very well with it.

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

Similarly for sculpting, the Beauty Blender allows you to sculpt the cheeks effectively and in a nicely diffused way. The Micro.Mini can also do that. Over and above, it can also do effective sculpting of the smaller areas like your nose.  I find it extremely handy and useful.  Between the Beauty Blender and the Micro.Mini, everything gets sorted and applied. I don’t really feel the need to use any brushes for my face makeup. I even tried applying cream eyeshadow with the Micro.Mini – it did a fairly good job.

Overall, I’m loving using sponge for makeup, which is incredible because I used to be very phobic about them being hygienic. My only grouse with the Micro.Mini is how difficult it is to clean the concealer stains from the sponge.

Beauty Blender Micro.Mini

Pros of Beauty Blender Micro.Mini:

  • Easy to use – even by a makeup beginner.
  • One tool – multiple uses – excellent for travel.
  • Gives absolutely beautiful, flawless application of corrector, concealer, highlighter and bronzer.
  • Soft on skin.
  • Gives more control over the application.
  • Portability for travel.
  • Convenient packaging.

Cons of Beauty Blender Micro.Mini:

  • Difficult to remove concealer stains upon washing.
  • Not available in India – even from the Beauty sites offering BeautyBlender.

IMBB Rating:

Yes, a 4.8/5 product.

I absolutely love this little piece of sponge.  It’s incredible how expensive it is, at least you are getting 2 pieces, so you are sorted for some time. But, I will definitely recommend this and buy it in future as well. The finer detailing of the face gets taken care of with this so easily.  For someone who hasn’t jumped on the BeautyBlender bandwagon – do so! It’s really worth it!

  1. I am in KK …you said just what I wanted to know 😀 but even I am a bit concerned about cleaning that sponge post usage which is a common issue with all sponge applicators 🙁

  2. This review is what I was waiting for! Thank you :D!!I think I’ve seen all the reviews under the sun about it and the only aspect that was keeping me back from buying it was the hygiene factor. So if I had to choose between the original beauty blender and the mini one, which one do you think I should go for?

    1. I was so phobic towards sponges earlier – but now I just love them!! Between the 2 – difficult to choose between them coz the purpose of both is totally different. You cannot use these micr.minis for applying foundation, brush, etc – they are so small, it will take you ages. The original BB is more apt for that. If you want to do micro detailing of the face, then yes, this one is more suitable. If all you want to do is try a BB to see how you feel about it, then go for the original BB.

  3. Hie imbb gang!! I hav been following all your posts silently n even during my exam.. i have few questions.. i am 20 yr old.. i have very oily skin n occasional pimples.. have lots of black and whiteheads.. i dunno how to deal with it.. please suggest me some creams, face wash, scrubs and face pack for everyday used.. am not satisfied with any cream i have used.. m in need of ur help..
    Thank you! 🙂

    1. I totally agree to Neetu’s response.

For a proper CTM routine, You can try the Clinique 3 step process – it comes highly recommended.

Also, I suggest you put up the query in “Ask IMBB” forum – you will get more help thru that.

  4. I also have very dry and flaky lips… i have used nivea and maybelline baby lips lip balm… didn’t really much make a difference.. and tbs ka hemp lip balm made my lips even more drier n strechy.. is thr any better lip balm in the market ?

    1. priyasha u need to take care of ur water intake and balanced diet apart from topical treatment coz these symptoms look more of dehydrated or under nourished skin as per ur statement. U might need proper water intake and good dose of dry fruits, fresh vegetables and fruits plus lots of ghee for soft supple skin and lips naturally. try to scrub hard it also make difference. hydration need to be inside out for sustainable results unlike wt u feel as of nw. hope it helps. and search on IMBB search bar, u will get tons of results and answers to ur query

  5. wow kk wonderful find and review.. 🙂 even am also tempted to get it and find it pretty useful over biger version somehow. I like its neon color as well.

    1. I love the colour Neetu! My kiddo keeps asking me for it – thinking its something he can play with!! Its excellent for detailing Neetu but for foundation, blush application – you will need the original BB only.

  6. kk…such a well written review…claps. these are so tiny. thankfully u showed me the size on your fingers else I was imagining it bigger :p everyone here keeps asking abt in stores about it. love the neon shade and the quality n the fact that its a duo. yet pretty expensive 🙂

    1. I love the colour too Sumera! Yes, its actually micro.mini!! I put it in my hand purposely so that you could see how really small it is. I have another BeautyBlender product coming up for review – I’ll insert a pic of BB original vs this for size comparison.

  7. Beautiful review kulpreet… My my… The sponges r indeed Micro Mini… I havent jumped the band wagon yet… Might start with the beauty blender

  8. These are sooooo cute. I dont know if I want them more for the cuteness factor or fort the utility. 😀 Absolutely enjoyed reading your review, K. Will keep these in mind for sure. 🙂

  9. Very nicely written review…am surely gonna order ..infact i did ask my brother to get bigger one version but he missed..
one question..can this sponge be used for all diff makeup products at the same time? I mean u put foundation wt it..then blush..then bronzer..all at the sametime?

    1. Do ask him to get the Beauty Blender for you. They are now available on sites shipping to India – alternatively, you can pick from there too.

And yes, you use the same damp sponge for one product after the other. Applying cream blush with this is such a breeze – it comes out so nicely diffused and natural!

  10. Sigh! Beauty Blender is a dream for me. I guess I will save up and buy both Beauty Blender and these Minis next year. How laalchi i am, I purchased the whole Real Techniques collection this year, and already dreaming of Beauty Blender 😛 😛
