Needed some help from you. I am going makeup shopping tomorrow. But being a total buddhu as far as make up is concerned, I’m totally clueless what to buy. My usual make simply consists of compact, Kajal and Lip balm. Very rarely do I use a my old lakme lipstick.I think I need to buy some stuff which a beginner like me can easily handle. I want to go for a very light makeup, like for office, formal events. So nothing loud or heavy. But have absolutely no clue about what stuff to buy…..and which brands??

I have combination skin(dry cheeks, forehead, oily nose and chin). My skin tone is dusky. Any suggestion from you would be of great help.

Also I have been trying to use liquid liners for a long time now. but i always mess it up. my hands are not steady enough. Any alternative to liquid liners?

  1. You should try to buy the ever famous Chai latte quad from Maybelline for starters for an eyeshadow! πŸ™‚ The four colors alone would work for as well as together! In terms of help with eyeliners…I was in he same boat as you a year ago and I never used to wear liquid eyeliners…but it took practice and more practice.

If you still can’t get it, I would say gel/cream eyeliners are easier to work with but give a liquid type effect (there are some by maybelline). Also, I know there are a few liners on the market which are pencil, but are so intense that they look like liquid…I know the liquiline blast from cover girl, and i think there might be some from Loreal as well…! πŸ™‚

Also, L’oreal Lineur Intense is like a pen, and has a felt tip and is pretty easy to work with! πŸ™‚

  2. 1) Moisture : Neutrogena’s Oil-free Moisture for Combination skin will be an amazing base for your Make-up

  3. hey Aditi πŸ™‚ I would suggest you to invest in a good liquid liner (black, nay blue or emerald green) and a volumizing mascara. It’ll do up your eyes really well…
Second, you could go for some highly glossy lip glosses… and yes a BLUSH!!!
and you are SET to rock any event πŸ™‚

    1. oooh sorry.. forgot to mention…
Blushes i really Maybelline’s (mousse and powder– both are grt!) and the black liquid liners are good in Revlon!
Lipglosses? maXfactor hands down! or even Maybelline πŸ™‚

        1. Suma, you’re a sweetheart. :-* :-* Can you suggest a good volumising mascara.. I have heard mixed reviews about the maybelline collossal volume mascara.. πŸ˜• and i’ve been eyeing maybelline lipglosses too..would definitely get it.

  4. Hi Aditi, i too ws a budhu b4 i came across IMBB and now am much knowledgeable abt makeup. you didnt mention any budget so am suggesting u wat i use. Starting from base- try MAC satin finish foundation which will give satin soft texture+no white cast,(1500/- or something i forgot) they hav many shades (store attendant will help u find ur shade)
    – If u dn like2use foundation stick2compacts, Try lakme radiance compact,89/- or maybelline white stay UV,150/-
-lakme nine2five definer eyeliner pencil will do ur job of eyeliner & kajal as well as its color is intensed, smudge proof and stays all day, available in many colors, 299/-
    -for eyeshadow u cn try chai latte of maybelline(4 brown colors)they r matte, perfect4office,even i use it,225/-
lash artist of lakme,168/- is good for me bt if u want waterproof, try maybelline collosial volume express mascara,290/-
-colorbar blush in peachy rose or just earth(brown,no glitter)250/-
-maybelline superstay lipcolor stays whole day on me without fading,390/- bt its difficult to take it off so i also use color sensational in buff,220/-(for better color payoff apply foundation and powder first on lips then lipstick)
-if u dn like lipstick and is a lip gloss person try lakme sheer satin lip gloss,325/-
all this is what i use, may it suits u too…
    All the Best… :-)) :-))

    1. OMG Prerna…you’ve covered about everything in your reply. thanku :-)) since all of you have suggested maybelline chai latte , ill go with it. u have combi skin too kya? me too hoping all of these suit me :fingersxd: :fingersxd:

  5. @aditi – you can invest in a god quality lip balm – anything from lotus to lush, even shimmery, tinted lip balms.
about eye liners – pencil liners in my experience don’t create the thin bold strokes liquid liners do. that way they are irreplaceable.
if your hands are not firm you can place them on a table while lining your eyes, but don’t balance your body weight on the same hand.
you could also sit down on a chair in front of your mirror, then rest your hand one table to line your eyes. you can improve with practice

      1. just re read my post oops these typos i have corrected them… :-)) :-))
@aditi – you can invest in a good* (not god) quality lip balm – anything from lotus to lush, even shimmery, tinted lip balms. 😐

btw tbs satsuma is a shimmery lip balm and others like raspberry, guava are glossy.
you can also try lotus cherry, nivea lip balms for the tint πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  6. Hi Aditi,
I have the same problem. These are my recommendations –

    Makeup –

Revlon Age defying foundation – It is not just for more mature skin but anyone cna use it

Loose powder/compact -this really helps absorb the oils

    Blush/dark powder – I am currently use Body Shop # 5

Lipstick – any but apply foundation before so that it stays in place longer

eyeliner – I use the Maybelline pot which works very well but I apply concealer or foundation to the syelids before that.

 Concealer – I love L’oreal. it works like a charm cos I have really terrible darck circles. i use the Medium shade.

    Skin Care
 Oil of Olay – serum/anti ageing 7 in 1
 Oil of Olay cleanser – I think there is one for all skin types

    What to avoid –
 Toner is a No No
 Soap on the face unless it is a specifically meant for the face

    Tips –
You could blot your face mid afternoon since the face tends to get damp with either facial tissues or blotting paper (i think thats the name though am not very sure)

    Hope this helps! πŸ˜€

I don’t know if you’ll find the similar one where you stay.. But this moisturizer from Shielo is for oily or combination skin .. I really like this brand.. It doesn’t cause me any break outs.. Hope this helps!!
