KIKO:

Best Makeup and Beauty Products To Buy From Europe

Kiko is an Italian brand now available all over Europe, they have their own store, and in Italy, they are very popular. Their makeup is good quality, they have lots of colour for every product.  You can find almost all shades that you can think of.  I especially love their nail polishes and lipsticks.  The nail polishes are much pigmented, very easy to apply.  I never find them to be streaky or difficult, the brushes are wide and oval, and also a dream to work with. The lasting power is average 4-5 days with a good base and top coat. Nail lacquer has no abrasive ingredients like Toluene, Camphor, DBP and Formaldehyde. They have more than 120 shades, so for sure you will find one of your taste!!! There are shimmery ones, glittery, cream, metallic, they always add new finishes and shades every season.

About lipstick I could write a whole post, there are so many finishes and shades for each one, it’s crazy.  After all this year into makeup, I still haven’t tried all of them 😛  I personally love the ultra-glossy stylo lipstick, they have a glossy finish, and packaging is sleek and minimal. They are very cheap, but super comfortable on your lips. I have 4 of them, some colours have some shimmer in it, and the others are just glossy. They stay well on your lips for 3-4 hours without eating, but they are so easy to re-apply even without a mirror. They feel like a lip balm, they are quite weightless and not too sticky. The smell is a nice sweet smell, very subtle. They also have SPF 15 and it’s always a good point. Available in a wide variety of colours: 21 brilliant, ultra-modern and always wearable shades.

Some other honourable mentions are the eyebrow pencils which have a very fine point, nice colours for everyone. The eye shadows as well are quite pigmented and long lasting; I tend to overlook them now since I am set with everything I have. The seasonal collection are most of the time on point the latest makeup trends. They always bring out new products, new improved formulas or trendy colours. I love the eye pencils from the limited edition collection.

Phyto:

Phyto is a brand for hair care, it’s a French brand quite well available all over Europe and on lots of website as well. They use natural ingredients, which are derived from plants and flowers. I cannot live without the phyto 9 Daily ultra-nourishing cream with 9 plant extracts. It’s just like a moisturiser for your hair, I like to apply a pea-sized amount on my damp hair, and another one after finishing the blow dry.  It removes some of the frizz, doesn’t smell anything wonderful, just a herbal soft smell. It leaves the hair very soft, shiny and healthy. It nourishes them day by day as well. I am using this for 6 months now and I already bought a second tube, I can totally notice the difference when I forget to use it.  Phytokératine spray is a repairing thermal protectant spray for weakened and damaged hair with keratin. I always use it when I want straighten my hair or when I use the curling iron. I don’t know if in the long term it’s really protecting my hair, but they hold the shape better and it smells really nice.  They have lots of product for every hair type and every necessity, unfortunately, they are not really cheap, but every styling item lasts for a while, so it’s a little investment in your hair.

Essence and Catrice:

These are the two drugstore brands which are available all over Europe, they are very affordable. It’s either a hit or miss with these. Some products are really great, some others are just worth the money you pay, which is 2-3€ max for Essence and 6-7€ max for Catrice.  Catrice lipsticks are quite nice, they have a few shades to choose from and the pigmentation is nice, also the new lipstick line from Essence is also quite good, the colours are wearable and cute.  Catrice eye shadows are also a good catch, some colours are dupe for higher-end shades, I love Catrice 410 – C’mon chameleon! Because it’s a dupe for MAC Club eyeshadow, the shade is one of a kind, in some lights, it looks brown, then green with a little bit of blue as well. The consistency is silky and buttery, very easy to apply and blend, just be careful with the possible fallout. Meanwhile, I would advice to skip Essence eyeshadows.

Nail polishes from both the brands are interesting, cheap with lots of colours to choose from, easy to apply, but not as long lasting as other brands.  The brushes from both the brands are incredibly good for the cheap price, they are cute and always super soft.  I love the pencil brush from Essence, the blush brush from Catrice.  Also, the liner brush and the gel liner from Essence are quite good.

Lush:

Lush is a very well-known brand all over the world now, whenever I am in a big city, I pick up something to try. Right now, I am loving R&B hair moisturiser so much.  It’s a leave-in moisturiser for dry and curly hair.  I have exactly wavy, dry and frizzy hair and this product works wonders.  I want you also to smell this incredible cream, I always receive so many compliments that I have lost count.  It smells amazing and lasts all day long, leaving your hair incredibly soft, shiny and healthy with the tiniest amount of product. It smells like orange blossom and jasmine.

Caudalie:

If you can splurge and you like natural and organic skin care, go for Caudalie.  I had the pleasure to try lots of samples from it and I loved everything.  Unfortunately, I can’t splurge too much, I already do so on makeup, so skin care for now is not a priority, but that’s for now only 😛 I loved the eye cream, as well as the moisturiser, also the divine oil is a nice rich oil, with a very pleasant fragrance.

Brands in UK – Illamasqua/Drugstore Brands:

If you happen to go to the UK, you can find most of the brands mentioned (except Catrice and Essence), but you will be able to find other English brands. Illamasqua is a luxury brand with amazing reviews about almost every product.  I have a blush from them and it is truly a gem with very nice colour payoff and staying power.  From the drugstore, you can also buy Real Techniques brushes.  The price is quite affordable and you get super good quality soft brushes.  Also, Tangle Teezer brush made a lot of difference to my hair, it’s very effective at detangling hair, especially long locks, without breaking or damaging them.

Other brands that I have heard a lot about are MUA and Barry M, the first one is very cheap, and the second is famous for their nail polishes.

    1. Hi Rashmita, Real Techniques now ship worldwide. And they charge a minimal amount for shipping i.e: $0.73 to $2.59 PER brush/set depending on what is the price of the product you are purchasing. I live in Mumbai (India) and have placed an order for 5 brushes which cost $44 and they charged me $5.85 for shipping so in total my bill for 5 brushes was $49.85 (INR-Rupees.2,993) and i will receive my package within 07-14 business days. Here is a link if you wish to order too:

  1. very very useful post dear….it will help many of us….wanna try most of these brands…no no all the brands…
I have RT brushes…all of them!!!!!!

    1. P2 is a great german brand, I have some lipstick a friend gave to me. Pupa is laso a very nice brand, totally forgot about it, lol

  2. Alas, Catrice’s “C’mon Chameleon” got discontinued, it’s no longer available. Most of my favorite Catrice eyeshadows actually are, which is just too bad. Or they were from Limited Editions. Worth mentioning are their blushes, they’re all great value for what little money they cost. They’ve got a lot amazing new stuff in their lineup, starting August. I highly recommend checking out their new Velvet Matt eyeshadows, those are super pigmented!

Essence eyeshadows, I agree, are mostly meh. I have a few, but they are VERY hit and miss. Supposedly they are so lightly pigmented, because the brand is aimed at young teenagers who are still inexperienced at applying makeup, so that they wont end up painted like a parrot. *laughs* In any way, I have found that I love ALL their little quattro palettes. I very much like their nail polishes too, especially the toppers, and their long lasting eye pencils.

And, Anwesha is right, P2 has got some pretty amazing stuff too, imho especially their sand nailpolishes, and the gel eyeliner pens. Also possibly worth a look is the Rossmann drugstore brand Rival de Loop Young. Like Essence, they aim at very young customers (there’s also Rival de Loop for adults, but I actually like their “kiddie brand” better *laughs*), and they’re very inexpensive, with nail polishes for less than 1€ and stuff. They had a bit of a relaunch recently. Their eyeshadows are imho better than Essence’s, and I very much like their blushes too. Many German bloggers LOVE their eyeshadow primer/base (it often gets compared to the much pricier one by Art Deco), and their baked highlighter. <3

  3. Super awesome post maria! 🙂 This post is going to be so useful to me when I travel to europe soon *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance*

  4. i have heard of these brands…..but when i went to europe i didn’t get much time to shop *cry* *cry* *cry* i wish i would have got some time and would have got a chance to try some of these…. *cry*
