Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink

I have mentioned in my previous post my love for all things Bobbi Brown! And I am so “J” of all you guys in Delhi who can visit the store!  No worries, I will wait for it to come to Mumbai or wait for another trip abroad – whichever comes first!

If ever there was a product with a cult following – Bobbi Brown gel liners it would be! They are pretty much the best in the business – creamy, insanely pigmented, easy to apply and smudge (if you want to) and last the whole day – effortlessly! They come in 13 permanent colours.

Product Information (from the website):

It is part of Bobbi’s Top 10 – “This really makes eyes pop. Because it is gel-based, it gliodes on without tugging and you have a minute of play time before it sets. Best of all, it doesn’t smudge and stays in place until you take it off.”

This award-winning liner gives you the look of liquid liner with the ease & feel of a gel formula. Long-wearing, water-resistant color glides on & let’s you get it just right before it dries – then stays without a smear or crease.

To apply:

Dip tip of Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush (coat both sides of brush head). Wipe off excess before applying to eye. Work quickly as product becomes transfer-resistant once dry. To remove, use Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover.
(You can obviously use whichever brush you are comfortable with – I use the Inglot bent brush or the freebie brush which came with my Loreal Superliner. And it can be removed with any eye/makeup remover.

Price:

$23.00 or 3gms of product.
I bought it for INR 1450.
(Priced at INR 1540 @ Bobbi Brown store in Delhi)

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer ink (13)
Packaging:

It comes in a typical glass pot with a black screw cap – quite similar to the Loreal Superliner pot. There is no mirror or brush with it.Duty Free outlets stocking Bobbi Brown generally have special offer where you can get the Black Ink and Sepia Ink (a rich brown) gel liners with a free mini ultrafine eye liner brush! There is 3gms of product there but you hardly need much for the application.

Product:

As with most of my Bobbi Brown purchases, this was a blind buy! I had checked swatches and asked my hubby to pick Denim Ink (on one of his trips abroad). Since that was not available and I bet he dreaded coming home without a Bobbi Brown product, so here is what he got! But I love it! This would anyways have been my second choice.

Bobbi’s gel liners come under too categories – with shimmer and without. So colors like Blank Ink, Dark Chocolate Ink, Espresso Ink are all without shimmer. And the ones like Ivy Shimmer, Chocolate shimmer, etc have shimmer particles. The only exception to it is Violet Ink which does not have ‘shimmer’ in the name but the product actually does.

Coming to Ivy Shimmer – it’s has intensely dark green colour with green/teal shimmer in it. Pls note, the shimmer is not sparkly or chunky. It is extremely understated. The colour itself is green without being bright and OTT or “Oh my God! I have green on my eyes!” I am not saying that I have an aversion to a bright green on my eyes – I quite like MAC Undercurrent. However, bright, in-your-face colors are pretty much NOT Bobbi Brown. As I mentioned in my previous post (Bobbi Brown- Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheek – Calypso Coral), Bobbi’s philosophy is not about loud, OTT colors – its about enhancing what you have as an individual!

Bobbi believes that “makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” Through Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Bobbi enables every woman to enhance her unique beauty. With straightforward, easy-to-use cosmetics in timeless hues, all formulated to create a smooth, natural, and healthy appearance.

Coming back to Ivy Shimmer, the teal shimmer is understated and catches light only in bright lights (sunlight or indoors). Otherwise it just looks like an extremely dark green. It was extremely difficult to take photo where the true colour of the product would be visible. I think, I finally managed it. Just for comparison, I have swatched my Loreal Gel Superliner in Black alongside the Ivy Shimmer to highlight the colour.

Th product is Insanely pigmented – one swipe of the brush is enough and its fairly quick to dry. If you do want to create a smokey eye look, you have to be quick at smudging it before it sets. I have super oily lids. However, this is one liner which stays and stays no matter what! I have tested it for 8 hours. There was a little fading of the colour, however, no smudging. I have used it on my waterline and it stays put there as well.

Just to share with you, post swatching the product, I tried getting it off my hand with a napkin – it would not budge – no streaking, no smudging, nothing. It just stayed put. So I thought lets test it, I put my hand under water and then tried wiping with a cloth – again, no effect. Finally, removed it with a makeup remover!

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink:

1. Lovely color – intense dark green with teal shimmer.
2. Insanely pigmented – you don’t need to go over and over with the brush to apply it. One swipe is enough.
3. Creamy texture which glides on smoothly – Easy to apply.
4. Smudge proof and waterproof – stays put till you decide to take it off!
5. Can be used to create thin line or smudged smokey eye effect. You can also use it as a base for green smokey eyes. The teal shimmer adds a whole new dimension to the look.
6. I have had this for about 5-6months – does not show any sign of drying.
7. There is no fragrance – I don’t like fragrance in eye products!
8. Did not cause any irritation to my sensitive eyes (even when applied to the lower waterline).

Cons of Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink:

1. The price may be a con. But you do get your money’s worth with this product.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating – 5/5

It’s a fantastic eyeliner. I have been an eyeliner girl since my teens. Have been using (mostly liquid eyeliners) since school/college days – so much so that, without lipstick, I am okay, but without eyeliner, I feel my face is naked! This, for me, is as good as it gets – predominantly because it lasts the whole day without smudging, without feathering and I don’t find it staining my crease or upper lid. What more can you ask for in a liner?

So, when are you guys visiting the Bobbi Brown shop and what are you going to be picking from there?

Wish you guys a great day ahead!

  1. That looks really good.. *woot* *woot* such a gorgeous shade *happy dance* me planning to try the black one coz first ill try the basic one and then jump to these coloured ones *happy dance*

    1. I understand that you might wanna pick Black coz u are likely to use it more often. But you can pick black from any brand …do give another colour a try…like this one or denim ink or the violet ink before you buy.

    1. Yes, it is a lovely colour … *happy dance* *happy dance* *happy dance* if it wasn’t for the teal shimmer, it would have been very mossy green!

    1. *drool* *drool* *drool* You must check out other shades, they are equally fabulous!! Bobbi BRown does have some great products!

  2. it is definitely costly but it looks amazing…..and with so many pros this con can be put aside…… *haan ji*

  3. Somny reviews on BB these days n i dont own a single product of theirs *waaa* *waaa* ….the shade is grt…pretty green *clap* *clap*

    1. Thats why we are reviewing BB products Melissa….so you can make an informed decision when you go to buy it! *hifive* *hifive*

    1. *nonono* Im afraid not! MAC, Bobbi Brown, Inglot, etc do not provide a brush. Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Loreal, MAybelline do. It might have something to do with the fact that MAC, Bobbi Brown, Inglot – all have an extensive line of good quality brushes. SO they may want to sell these separately rather than doing free ones along with the product. JUst a thought! *scared* *scared*
