Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara Review

The past couple of months, I have been trying to keep my makeup very minimal. I am loving the fresh natural look, during day time at least. Hence, I have been trying all sorts of skin care products so that my skin remains healthy and glowing. For my eyes, my go-to products have been from Bobbi Brown – a creamy eye shadow and the Smokey Eye Mascara. I am a big fan of eyelash curlers and mascaras. They instantly open up the eyes. Today, I will review this mascara from Bobbi Brown, which I am totally loving these days.

Product Description:
What it is: A kohl-pigmented mascara that delivers high drama.

What it does: Extremely creamy, this kohl-pigmented mascara builds volume lash by lash, as opposed to traditional volumizing formulas that create the appearance of volume by clumping lashes together. The result is extremely black, stretched-out lashes in an instant—the perfect complement to a smoky eye look.

What else you need to know: A thicker brush base evenly combs through eyelashes from roots to ends, while a tapered tip grabs those small, hard-to-reach lashes.

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara:

Packaging:
This comes in a glossy black box packaging, common to all Bobbi Brown products. All details are written on it. Inside, is the mascara which is a silver-ish colored cylindrical tube. The shade name is written at the bottom.

Color:
This mascara is really the blackest of black color. That might be due to the presence of kohl pigments in it.

Wand:
The wand is a very standard looking wand. The bristles are tiny, but lots in number and packed densely, very close to each other. The bristles pick up adequate pigment once dipped into the tube; and deposit them very neatly onto the lashes. These do not poke your eyes at all. They cover the lower lashes very easily as well. The bristles separate the lashes, but not too much since these are packed very close to each other. So, this will not give you a spidery- eye like effect… If that is what you are looking for in a mascara!

Formula:
The formula of the mascara is very rich and smooth and creamy. It is neither very wet nor very dry. It does not smudge under the lower lash line during application. It does dry out fast, yet it gives you time to add on additional layers without looking odd and artificial. It is not at all clumpy or flaky. The formula has never caused any allergic reactions or made my eyes watery. The formula is water resistant and does not spread down my cheeks in these humid conditions. Being water resistant ( and not water proof); it is reasonably easy to remove this mascara at the end of the day.

Application:
This is promoted as a Smokey Eyes Mascara… And it really lives up to its name! It definitely adds volume to your lashes, in the first coat itself. One coat is suitable for day time wear; and will definitely enhance your eyes if you are going in for a natural look. This can easily be built up by adding additional coats; and they apply beautifully; giving you lush, jet black and voluminous lashes. This is neither a lengthening nor a curling mascara.

Your lashes may seem a bit long; but not much. It does not add any exaggerated curl to lashes, just enhances your lashes’ natural curl. I did notice that it does not even hold any added curl. If you have curled your eyelashes using a curler and then used this mascara. The curl does not stay for long. This maybe because it adds so much volume to lashes, which might be weighing down the extra curl.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara:

• Expensive
• Limited availability in India
• Does not lengthen eyelashes much
• Not a curling mascara and neither does it hold the curl.

Verdict:
This is an amazing and jet black mascara which makes your lashes look immediately lush, fuller and voluminous and which can be built upon easily to give an almost false lash type effect.
