The Body Shop Banana Shampoo Review

Hi Ladies! This is my first post on imbb; was thinking of writing one from a long time but procrastination is in my lazy bones :p Anyways, I vowed to write a review this week so here it goes- I’ve recently hooked onto The Body Shop products and loved their bath products. So decided to try one of their shampoos as well. The banana shampoo is one of the old favourites from The Body Shop, launched in the early 90s and recently revamped. After hearing people raving about the older one on the internet,I decided it try the revamped version. Also,it seemed to be a safe bet as it is meant for all hair types. So without further ado, i’l get onto sharing my experience with the shampoo.

Here’s the product info
The packaging– It comes in a not so attractive pet bottle typical of all The Body Shop bath products with a flip flop cap

The smell– Though its a banana shampoo,I find the smell more of the bubblegumy type than bananas .I’m personally not fond of the smell much.

The shampoo is yellow in color and slightly runny in consistency.
The price :Rs 495/ for 250 ml

The ingredients: nothing on the bottle and nothing on their india website. Finally found it on the USA site which goes like this Water (Solvent/Diluent), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (Surfactant), Musa Paradisica (Banana) Fruit (Emollient/Lubricant), Glyceryl Hydroxystearate (Emollient), Lauramide DEA (Surfactant), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Surfactant), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Panthenol (Skin/Hair Conditioning Agent), Polyquaternium-7 (Hair Conditioner), Stearic Acid (Emulsifier), Sodium Chloride (Viscosity Modifier), Methylparaben (Preservative), Fragrance (Fragrance), Citric Acid (pH Adjuster), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Butylparaben (Preservative), Ethylparaben (Preservative), Isobutylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), Ascorbic Acid (Antioxidant), Yellow 5 (Colour), Red 4 (Colour).
And my experience..
tbs banana shampoo swatch
At the time I got the shampoo, my hair was very limp. It bought an instant bounce and shine to my hair. My hair looked fuller with greater volume. Also, another great benefit I noticed was that it always removed every drop of oil I put in my hair in one wash. Even after a head massage in a parlor, where they massage litres of oil into hair,It completely removed all traces of it.

Now summing up the pros the cons

Pros of The Body Shop Banana Shampoo

1. Gives volume to limp hair
2. Softens and gives a shine
3. Removes oil very easily
4. It comes in a transparent bottle, so i know when its getting over

Cons of The Body Shop Banana Shampoo

1. The price..but then its the staple price tag of tbs products
2. I don’t find the smell very pleasant. Its the typical fruity, bubblegum smell
3. No mention of ingredients on the bottle.
4. Contains SLES and parabens
My verdict would be that its a decent shampoo and does its job fairly well, but nothing spectacular. I’ve had a good experience with a shampoo and would like to try their other shampoos namely the rainforest range.
My rating – 3.5/5

  3. Well again the SLS and Parabens, Its costly, they take 495 for this shampoo, still use SLS and Parabens, not for me,

    1. yeah…exactly!!…n they don’t even list d ingdnts…u have to hunt for them on d net…I think d rainforest range is sls free…was thinking of givin it a try

  4. I am currently using the same shampoo as well.Though I quite like the smell, the usage of SLS and all known parabens to man in this shampoo just made get done with i fast! But you can find the ingredient list on the bottle! Just flick open the label at the back, the sticky paper and you’ll get the entire list of ingredients! I think I’m soon going to shift to their rainforest range 😛
