Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream SPF 15 Review

Hi IMBB!

I’m back with another review for you all and this time I will be reviewing a product from the No7 range. I have reviewed several products from No7 because I really like this brand, and not because I have liked all the products so far. This brand definitely has hits and misses in my opinion, but in this case, I have mixed feelings about this product.

No7 Protect And Perfect Day Cream SPF 15 + 5 Star UVA Review

The product I am reviewing today is the No7 Protect And Perfect Day Cream SPF 15 + 5 Star UVA. I also own the night cream from the same range that I will review separately. The size of the product I’m reviewing is the travel size version, since it came in a set with other products, but you can purchase the full size version also.

If you want to know what my thoughts are about this product, please keep reading!

My Experience with Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream SPF 15:

I first came across this product in 2013, when it came in a Christmas gift set, along with travel size versions of the eye makeup remover, hot cloth cleanser and night cream. I have already reviewed the No7 Hot cloth cleanser and the No7 eye makeup remover.

Last year, No7 came out with this gift set again and I just had to repurchase it. By using this day cream once again, I’ve realised just how much I like it and I am so tempted to go out and buy the full size version. However, the reason why I have not bought it is because it is expensive in my opinion. The full price of the product is £22 and you get only 50 ml and so, I think that is a bit of a downfall to this product. The size I have is 25 ml, but since it came in a set, it worked out to be a lot cheaper.

However, the cream is very good. It contains SPF 15 and also 5* UVA, which means it is good for skin protection. As it is still winter, the protection it provides is suitable, but when the weather gets hotter, I will be using a higher SPF instead.

No7 Protect And Perfect Day Cream SPF 15 + 5 Star UVA Review

The formula of this product appears quite thick, but when I apply it onto my skin, it feels light and not too heavy. This is great, especially since it has SPF in it and I haven’t had great experiences with products containing SPF. I’ve found that creams containing SPF feel too thick and heavy on the skin and in turn clog pores and lead to breakouts. Since, they are so thick, they also make my face look really greasy and it takes ages to blend the product into my skin, hence leaving a white cast.

However this cream has not caused any breakouts at all. It is very hydrating without being too thick or greasy and it does not leave a white cast on my face because it blends so well into the skin.

The product does have fragrance in it and normally fragranced products don’t really work on my sensitive skin. However, I have not had such problems with this product.

As for the packaging, this little travel size version comes in a tube, which you squeeze out and I really like it because it is simple and easy to dispense out product onto my fingers. The full size version appears to be a tub, which I’m not so keen on, I much rather prefer squeezing out the product onto my fingers rather than dipping my fingers into the product. This is because with a tub, you need to keep dipping your fingers with every use and this can introduce bacteria into the product.

I have also read that creams packaged in tubs are not as great as creams that are packaged in tubes. This is because creams, which contain anti-ageing ingredients, are more sensitive to light and air when they are packaged in a tub. Every time you open the lid, the ingredients in the cream are exposed to oxygen in the air and begin to break down faster.
However when these creams are packaged in a tube, they don’t break down as fast, because they are not exposed to the outer elements much. So, next time you go out to purchase your favourite moisturiser, remember this little piece of advice and buy a cream that does not come in a tub and prefer a tube!

The cream claims to visibly improve fine lines, but since I have no wrinkles anyway, that is a claim I cannot testify to. I like using this cream, not to prevent wrinkles; even though I know that is one of the primary aims of this product. Rather, I am using this product because it has SPF so it protects my skin and also it leaves my skin feeling moisturised. It has also not led to any breakouts, which is an extra bonus!

Although, I really do like this cream and my skin has not reacted it to it, I would prefer to try a cream that is not anti-ageing, but aimed for younger skin. I, unfortunately, still have not come across such a cream.

So, I would say that this product is targeted more for people who are experiencing the first signs of ageing, not for younger people who don’t have those skin issues. Another thing that slightly un-nerved me was the list of ingredients-there are a lot of ingredients! Amongst these ingredients are parabens and silica and a ton of other ingredients, with names that I cannot even pronounce!

In one of my other blog posts, I mentioned that I would like to take a more natural approach to my skin care regimen and this product is anything but natural!

Would I Repurchase Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream SPF 15?

I don’t think so. I would like to try other alternatives which are aimed for my skin and also don’t contain as many harsh chemicals!

IMBB Rating:

3.9/5

Conclusion:

I really like this product; I just wish the full size wasn’t so expensive! I am also a little wary of the large amount of ingredients in this product and the number of chemicals it contains because I want to use products that are more natural.

I have also realised that this product has been mainly targeting for preventing wrinkles and lines, which is not what I’m concerned about. Regardless of these problems, the cream still feels so great on my skin and has not had any breakouts.

I hope you all enjoyed my review and my next review will be on the No7 Protect And Perfect Night Cream. So, if you would like to know what my thoughts are about that product, stay tuned for my next review!

  1. This is actually pretty expensive and doesnt seem to be doing anything great apart from hydration.. 🙁 I am not sure if we should expect more out of such an expensive cream

    1. Yes you are right purva- I guess it has been designed as an anti-ageing product so I think it does do more, however I have not noticed anything because i don’t have any wrinkles to begin with! Thanks for reading!
