Since I have discovered the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks, I have been in total love with them. I have liked each and every one of the shades which I had bought. Anyways, I have always preferred brighter colorsas compared to browns and n*des. And this range has all the colors which I totally love. I had bought only 4 lipsticks during my trip to UK(out of a total of 8 in this range), and I loved them so much, I called up my relative there and asked her to kindly send me two more (I actually wanted all the rest four of them, but then my conscience came into play…Damn it!!!!). My parcel arrived a few days back, with a few more goodies (Yay!!!!), and I am reviewing the shade #01 Personne Ne Rouge today from the Velvet range.

My Experience with Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick #01 Personne ne Rouge

After having a fabulous experience with the Bourjois Rouge Velvet edition lipsticks, I bought two more shades from the range. These are # 01 Personne Ne Rouge and # 07 Nude-ist.

The shade Personne Ne Rouge comes in a similar packaging as all the others in this range. It comes in transparent, plastic, square shaped tubing; and looks more like a lip gloss than a classic lipstick. It is actually a liquid lipstick. The shade name is written on the tube; and the color of the lid corresponds to the color inside. The lid holds a doe-foot sponge applicator, which helps in easy and precise application of the lipstick. The packaging is simple, sturdy, attractive and travel friendly.

The shade Personne Ne Rouge is a classic red. This one, on full application, is neither an orange toned, nor a pink toned, and nor a blue toned red. I feel it is more of a neutral based; or as I call it “A RED TONED RED”. This is a red, which every woman of every age can carry off with aplomb. It is not meant only for the warm or cool skin tones; this one is for all. Being a matte lipstick, I would advise not to apply this on chapped lips.

The formula is creamy, which applies glossy on the lips, but settles down to a powdery matte stain finish within 5-10 minutes. It is quite transferable when freshly applied; but once it turns matte, it hardly transfers at all. The smell is a bit chemical like, but does not stay on lips after application. It glides very smoothly over the lips without any tugging. It does not settle into any lip lines, does not feather or bleed at all.

For day time wear, you can dot the lipstick over your lips, then purse your lips together and finally smoothen it out with your finger. Or you may apply one swipe over the lower lip, then purse your lips and smoothen it out. The look you will get is a subtle red, bold, yet appropriate and not at all over the top. However, if you apply the lipstick with the applicator all over the lip, it does tend to apply a bit unevenly; but nothing that a second swipe, or a good exfoliation of lips won’t solve.

For evening wear, let yourself free and apply as much as you wish. It is an extremely glamorous, Marilyn Monroe or Madhubala-kind classic red shade, which every girl will want to possess, and will never go out of fashion. It will always feel very lightweight and velvety. Although you may wear it all year round, I feel this one is a more winter kind of shade.

Cons of Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick #01 Personne ne Rouge

• Availability in India
• A bit on the expensive side
• Smell may be off-putting for some (but it does not stay after application)
• Applies a bit unevenly with one swipe(needs to be smoothed out)
• Color tends to get dull after a few hours and some snacks
• Will have to be removed with a remover (else it will stay as a stain)
• Since this range is matte based, it better to prepare your lips before application

Will I recommend Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick #01 Personne ne Rouge?

Yes, I have already recommended the entire collection for all of you. However, this is one red color which is ultra-glamorous, suits all complexions, and will never go out of fashion. If you are uncomfortable with an orange based red color (especially for more mature ladies), you may easily opt for this shade. The only real con I found was that it gets a bit dull looking after a few hours, and you might want to reapply it again.

P.S….I am now left with the last lipstick of this range in my collection. It is named Nude-ist. As you all know, I am not much into n*de shades, but surprisingly I am liking this one. I will test it for a few more days and then give a final review on that one.
