Since the moment I purchased my first epilator, I have been bowled over by this method of hair removal. I am a proud owner of the Braun Silk Epil 7, Philips Satinelle and the one I’m reviewing today is the latest edition of epilators from Braun. The Silk Epil 9 has a speciality of being wider which makes it convenient to remove more hair in one go. This might be expensive but, consider this as an investment. So, let’s get into the review.

My Experience with Braun Silk Epil 9 SkinSpa 9-961e Wet and Dry Epilation and Exfoliation System:
The Braun epilators come in a lot of variants in the range Silk Epil 9. I picked this one due to the exfoliation brushes it comes with. There are two brushes which can be used for a scrubbing action to combat the ingrown hair. The blue one is smoother and the purple one is a bit harsh. Honestly, on my skin, I find both the brushes to provide a similar effect. My suggestion is to move the brush by just grazing it on the skin, in a circular motion. If you press the bristles, you might find it harsh. At least I do.
I also exfoliate my underarms with this as well as the décolletage. This epilator is not meant for gentle facial exfoliation. The brush needs to be replaced after wear and tear and is available online in simple brush packs. The brush vibrates strongly in place and hence, it provides a vibration as well as a scrubbing action on my skin. With regular use, I have noticed lesser ingrown hair around my elbows and knees. If you are a body scrub lover, this is a mess-free version of the same.
Now coming to the epilator, most things are as same as the Silk Epil 7 but, the head of the epilator is wider with more tweezers. Hence, more hair can be removed in one go. The attachment with the pivoting head which comes with the spiked metal on it is super helpful. They press against the skin and massage the skin in anticipation of the hair being pulled out. They do suppress the pain with that massage element and I am very impressed with this feature. This also comes with a simple straight forward head for epilation which ensures more skin contact.
The pivoting head with the massage element does not pull out the hair in one go since there is a lesser skin contact and hence, it removes lesser hair. The simple epilation head comes in contact with the skin directly and pulls out more hair in one swipe. Now again, if you want the pain to be suppressed, use the massage head. If you can bear the pain, use the simple white colored head, or vary the heads according to your hair growth. This epilator is totally watertight and suits perfectly to be used in the bathtub or under the shower. Personally, I prefer dry epilation as it removes the smaller hair faster.
Of course, this comes with a shaver head. The lock mechanism should be used when you want to shave the trimmed hair that has not grown too long. Swipe it to the unlock button when you want to trim the longer hair and then, go ahead with the locked button. The transparent trimmer cap can be placed on the shaver head when the hair growth is very long and needs trimming. Clean the tool with the brush provided and oil it well to avoid any rusting and dry it properly before you store it.
This comes with a nice storage bag and a charger which are very similar to the Silk Epil 7. I don’t like how wobbly the wire feels, once it is inside the charging pin. The contact is not tight but of course, this is a con that is worth ignoring. I am currently using my Silk Epil 7 charger for charging it.
The epilator comes in a beautiful blue color. I love the light, speed settings and the whole shimmery body of this epilator. One thing to notice here is that this does not come with a body cover, like an anti-slip put-on attachment which comes with the Silk Epil 7. But, the attachment of the Silk Epil 7 fits well on this one too. The light is super helpful like always. The battery barely runs out but, I still like to charge it fully and store it for future purposes. The international versions have a standing charger where you need to fit this epilator in. They also come in more colors but you get limited shade options while purchasing this online.
Tips:
To sum it up, epilating your skin is great if you are used to the waxing pain and your hair growth is decreasing over the years. It is excellent to be used for your underarms as it catches even the smallest hair which waxing cannot do. This gives you the comfort of your home and quick hair removal before a party. You might find it hard to use on areas like thighs which are sensitive. For me, the hair on my thighs has a good growth so I make sure to epilate them regularly. Epilate after your periods and never before as it has got something to do with the pain levels. You will notice finer hair and virtually, no pain as you keep on epilating regularly. Epilate at night if you notice red bumps after hair removal; and not just before a big event. I am still a chicken when it comes to going too close to the bikini area for epilation. Always epilate when the growth is less. Always dry your attachments after washing and storing. Follow the instructions where it says, not to brush or wash the shaver head etc. Dry, charge and store the epilator and you can even travel with it.
On the downside, I did not notice proper hair removal with the special massage head, since the skin contact is minimal. The pain is lesser but you need to go over the skin more than once for removing the hair completely. So, the tall claims of catching the finest of hair are slightly doubtful with this attachment. Also, the pivoting head annoys me sometimes, particularly on the underarms, where the skin is uneven and it might snap and graze while pivoting. For the underarms, use the regular straightforward epilation head. Another thing which I noticed is that the head of the epilation system does not lock smoothly at the back, where the arrows meet. So, make sure you watch it before you epilate. I also find the epilator slightly heavy and slippery.

Cons of Braun Silk Epil 9 SkinSpa 9-961e Wet and Dry Epilation and Exfoliation System:
- The charger wire fits loosely into the epilator body.
- The pivoting head might graze your underarms; use the regular epilator head for underarms or skin folds.
- The pivoting head with massage tips has lesser skin contact, it does not pull out all the hair in one go, you will have to swipe it twice or thrice over the same surface.
- The epilator might feel heavy and slippery.
- Does not come with an additional cover for better grip, like Silk Epil 7.
- The locking mechanism at the back is not smooth.
