My Experience with Burt’s Bees Fig Lip Shimmer:

It comes in the usual yellow-colored Burt’s Bees trademark packaging. It is a twist-up packaging where you twist the lid and the lip balm rises from the surface. I personally love this packaging as I find it the most hygienic compared to the tub packaging of many other lip balms I have.

Let me honest here. This lip balm has a very strong mint fragrance. It smells as though one has eaten the strongest mint gum in the world. One can compare the fragrance to Listerine. However, this fragrance lasts only for a couple of hours on the lips and fades off eventually. The fragrance feels fresh and cooling.

On first glance, one may feel that it’s a shade of mauve after looking at the cap or one may expect a brownish-n*de color after looking at the shade name. But on opening, this is an amazing shade of terracotta with slightly more amount of shimmer than the “Watermelon” shade that I had reviewed before. The texture of this lip balm is a bit on the dry side when compared to any normal Burt’s Bees lip balm. Maybe this is due to the fine grain golden shimmer particles in it. The lip balm does not have the complete smooth feeling one needs while applying a lip balm. I seriously am going to blame it on the shimmer particles present in the lip balm. I really do like this color a lot. The reddish hint of color is wonderful and the fact that this is a high to full coverage lip shimmer is an added advantage.

This lip shimmer genuinely reminded me of Lakme Lip artist in Terracota, the only difference being the shimmer. Where I found the Lakme pencil to be drying, this one moisturizes like there’s no tomorrow. I usually prefer to wear this alone without a lipstick since it’s quite pigmented and when layered, tends to either overshadow the lipstick or changes the color drastically.

It’s also great to layer over lipsticks since it slicks on really smoothly and enhances your lip color instead of dislodging the initial color. The lip balm, as I said, has a strong minty fragrance and feel to it. It feels really as though one has applied a mouth freshener to the lips. Thanks to all the menthol, lips feel really plumb. In short, this also works like a great lip plumping product. The color of the lip balm is quite buildable and in the first stroke itself, it provides a great coverage for lips. Reapplying it over and over can only make the shade darker. This lip balm is almost like a lipstick indeed and suited good enough for pigmented lips as well. The only downside of this lip balm is that dries my lips to a great extent and has a tendency to settle into fine lines of my lips. Reapplication is a must every 4 to 5 hours. Also, it leaves a completely natural looking stain on the lips after the color begins fading off eventually.

Overall, I really love this lip balm since it works like a lipstick but provides benefits of a true lip balm with an additional mouth freshener feeling.
