Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo Review

Hello Beauties,

I always look out for good, natural, organic products including shampoos, conditioners and leave-in treatments for my hair. I was introduced to Burt’s Bees brand by my friend and I tried a bunch of products from this brand. I have kind of love-hate relationship with this brand because I used their hair care, skin care, body care products, some of them did wonders for me and some of them did not work at all for me.  If I talk about their hair care products, I like Burt’s Bees Pomegranate Volumizing Shampoo better than their other shampoos, but this post is about Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo.

Burt's Bees shampoo

Price:

I paid $8 for 350 ml/12fl oz.

Product Description:

The packaging says that sweet and tart team up to turn up your shine. Essential citrus oil, featuring grapefruit, are blended with gentle, plant based cleansers to create a richly foaming shampoo. Sugar beet penetrates to help repair damage for hair that feels healthier and looks shiner, naturally. So, it claims to clean your hair, adds shine to your hair & repairs damage of hair.

My Experience with Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo:

It has a nice light smell; it is almost transparent with light yellow color.  It lathers well on wet hair. Packaging says that grapefruit oil cleans hair and Betaine made from sugar beets penetrates to help repair damaged hair.  It cleans my scalp; it feels like it really gets the residue out from styling products and daily dirt and grime, but it does not repair any damage. It balances pH level and makes my hair shiny (that’s what it claims); but I want to add here that I apply herbal masks, henna on my hair, so I definitely say that shine is not just because of this shampoo. I have almost finished ¾th of this bottle, but I did not notice any change in my hair condition. Even if it adds shine to my hair, it is not long lasting ; I need to apply other herbal things to add shine. I have fine hair, so I don’t use any market conditioner after each hair wash as conditioner weighs down hair, I use my rosemary conditioner, DIY described here.  But when I use this particular shampoo, I can’t even imagine skipping conditioner.

Shampoo

It does not leave my hair greasy but it makes my hair so rough that I need strong moisturizing conditioner and hair serum after using this shampoo. I just want to finish the shampoo, so I pair it up with my new love L’Oreal Power Rush Conditioner which I already reviewed on IMBB here.

Pros of Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo:

  • 98.8% natural and free of sulphates, parabens, and phthalates.
  • It deeply cleans hair.
  • It balances pH level of your hair.
  • This all-natural product definitely leaves hair shiny.
  • This shampoo has a great smell.
  • Does not leave hair greasy.
  • As Burt’s Bees products go, it’s pretty inexpensive.

Cons of Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo:

  • Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo dries out my thin hair, and the conditioner doesn’t moisturize my hair enough to compensate.
  • It doesn’t do anything to prevent tangles and breakage.
  • After a few times of using this shampoo, I needed other treatment products to put the moisture back in my hair, and ended up just using my other shampoo and conditioner.
  • I never colored my hair but I don’t feel this shampoo prevents damage of color treated hair.
  • Conditioner did not work for me at all, but it gives manageability to your hair.

IMBB Rating:

3/5 (I have to switch to moisturizing shampoo after using this so, -2) .I am not buying this shampoo again but I would like to continue buying pomegranate volumizing shampoo by this brand.
