Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter Review

Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter Review

Hi Beauties,

My knowledge of makeup till a few years back was limited to just the base products, eye makeup, lipstick and blush. Highlighters, illuminators, and bronzers were totally out of my territory. That might also be because such products were not easily available in India. During my wedding, I was totally clueless regarding makeup. I just used to go along with whatever the SA thought would suit me; which most of the time was completely a wrong shade for me. SAs in India used to push the fairest of the foundations towards me, saying; “isse aap gori gori dikhogi.” Well, looking fair was such a must during that time or maybe, I was a complete novice in this regard. As a result, more often than not, my makeup used to look extremely cakey.

Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter

Today, my outlook towards makeup has changed, thanks to IMBB, and also thanks to so many different types of products with varying textures and large number of shades which have come up in the market. Amongst these are highlighters and illuminators. Highlighters came first, which contained shimmer particles and were used on the prominent high points of the face. Then came illuminators, which had even more subtle micro shimmer, and could be applied all over face for a radiant glow. Today, I am reviewing a highlighter, which is the very first highlighter I have ever bought. I have purchased and used illuminators (Revlon Bare Light) in the past, and used them as highlighters as well, but this is my first foray into a highlighter per se.

My Experience with Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter:

The packaging has a very classy and luxurious look to it. The outer packaging is a black color box, with all details written on it. Inside, there is a champagne colored, square-shaped plastic bottle with a black translucent plastic lid. It has the typical Chambor “Rose” insignia embossed on top. I think there is a slight defect in my bottle, since the lid does not close very firmly, so I have to be extremely careful if I take it with me on travels. The bottle has a nice pump dispenser, which works very smoothly; and you can stop pressing it at any time you want; so that you get exactly the amount you want.

This one is basically a liquid highlighter. The product is like a lotion in consistency; neither too thin nor too thick. The shade is a mix of champagne color lotion with golden shimmer particles. The shimmer particles are extremely minute, very subtle and non-gritty. However, as compared to the Revlon illuminator, the glow is slightly more visible on the skin. The fragrance is like “Boro Plus,” actually quite nice.

A very tiny amount is needed, depending on how you want to apply it. You may mix a tiny bit with your foundation, for an all over radiant, glowy look to the face. However, if you overdo it, your face will start looking like a disco ball.  I usually do not use the highlighter for this purpose. However, you may definitely use it on your arms and legs and back or any other large exposed part of your body, and it will look very glowy and radiant and glamorous.

As a face highlighter, you may apply it on the top of your cheekbones, the brow bones, the bridge of your nose and on your philtrum area. A very tiny amount is needed for highlighting. You may apply this with a small brush or with your fingers. It does not feel sticky at all. It does not make the pores appear larger. It lasts for a very long time (at least 8 hours); however, if you ever wish to reapply it, you may do so easily without looking cakey or even a bit artificial. It blends extremely well with your skin; and your skin will glow with a natural looking radiance. It has not broken me out or made my skin look oily or greasy at all.

When compared to Revlon illuminator, the shimmer particle size is same in both; however this highlighter gives a slightly more glow and sheen compared to the Revlon one (which is extremely subtle).

Pros of Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter:

  • Luxurious, hygienic packaging.
  • Dispensing pump is very smooth and easy to control the amount of product.
  • Very small amount is needed.
  • Can be mixed with foundation for all over glowy effect; and also on your bare arms and legs.
  • Fragrance is nice.
  • Consistency is perfect.
  • Color is a mixture of champagne with golden shimmer; which will suit most Indian skin tones.
  • The shimmer particles are extremely minute and non gritty.
  • Blends on skin very easily.
  • Lasts for a very long time (at least 8 hours).
  • Does make face look oily or sticky.
  • Does not settle on pores or accentuate them.
  • Has not broken me out.
  • Easily available in India.
  • Will last a very long time.

Cons of Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter:

  • Very expensive.
  • The lid of my bottle does not close tight (might be a problem with just my piece; but please do check it out before purchasing).
  • Can easily go overboard and look like a disco ball; so apply very very tiny amount. You may add on later as per your requirement.

IMBB Rating:

4.8/5

Would I Recommend Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter?

Yes, only if you do not have a highlighter and are looking for one. This is an extremely good highlighter, but not a must buy if you already have one. The color goes on very well with Indian skin tones, and the shimmer is very subtle; leaving a nice glow and radiant sheen. It lasts for a long time, and is suitable for all skin types. Agreed that one bottle will last a very long time; but pricing it at Rs. 1295/- for just 20ml of product feels too much. However, if you are searching for a quality product and price is not a barrier, do check this one out. This one is really good.
