Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System Review

Hello Lovely Ladies!

Every woman desires a clear, smooth and glowing face, and I am, of course, no exception.  I would like to believe that I take good care of my skin by following CTM twice a day, religiously, and any kind of mess up in my routine leads to pimples, blackheads and white heads within 2-3 days. My skin is oily and requires a lot of care and attention (I am sure all oily skin ladies would understand). Going to salons for regular facial cleanups, expensive creams, and wasting a lot of time and energy (and pocket money) obsessing over my skin had become a headache for me, in the past few years.  I stumbled across Clarisonic Mia once, while browsing on Sephora’s website last year (yeah, that’s what I do in my leisure time, making an imaginary list of ALL the awesome stuff that I would like to buy ;-) ). I read the reviews, and more than 95% reviewers were raving about it. Needless to say, I started obsessing about it from then on.  I saved enough allowance and got it.  There was a flat 25% discount offer running at the time, so it was almost a steal!

Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System Review

Price:

$119.

Clarisonic

It comes in a cardboard packaging, which contains the device, a “sensitive” brush head, a charger and a pack of travel size cleanser.

Clarisonic 1

The device is battery operated, very compact and ergonomically designed and isn’t much heavy, I find it quite easy to travel with. It is waterproof and can be used in the shower. It’s not supposed to be immersed in water though. I usually use it after a hot shower, as my pores open up by that time and the results are better.

Clarisonic 2

It comes with a charger that clasps to the device magnetically, in order to prevent accidental shock (since the device gets wet while using). The charger’s pins are meant for international use, and doesn’t fit the normal (circular) plug points in India, so you will need an extra converter (available at any electrical shop for less than 100 rupees) to be able to use it.

Clarisonic 3

There’s a single “power” button on the body of the device to start or stop the function. On turning it on, the brush head starts vibrating and I gently massage the skin in a circular motion, concentrating more on problem areas. The device automatically switches off after a minute though, to prevent overzealous people (like me) from “over cleansing!” :P

Clarisonic 4

The battery life is great. I have used it for almost a week, twice a day without charging, so if you are planning to go on a short trip, you may choose to leave the charger behind.

I clean the brush head at least once a week by immersing it in warm “Dettol” water for about 5 minutes.

Clarisonic 5

I had very high (read unrealistic) expectations from it, and well, I was both delighted as well as disappointed with the results.

Clarisonic 6

Delighted because:

  • It cleanses like it’s nobody’s business! My skin becomes squeaky clean every time I cleanse with it.
  • Skin becomes very smooth! Velvety smooth indeed!
  • It removes heaps of dust/makeup even when I have used a makeup remover prior.
  • It has reduced the oiliness of my skin to some extent. Ever since I started using this, my face is not as greasy when I wake up in the morning, as it used to be earlier.
  • The toner, moisturizer get absorbed much better (thanks to the unblocked pores).
  • My foundation/concealer, go on beautifully over the skin.
  • Pores have begun to appear smaller (on my nose specifically).
  • Blackheads have reduced and pimple scars have lightened.
  • My face appears brighter and skin appears healthy.

I have to tell you that just after 2 weeks of using this, one of my acquaintances asked me if I had gone to the salon and got something done to my face, because she thought my skin looked radiant. I would not have cared much about it, but, during that time, I used to be super busy at work from 7 in the morning till 8-9 in the evening. I didn’t even have time to get my eyebrows threaded. So I ‘d give full credit to Clarisonic for that complement ;-)

Now, I was disappointed because:

  • It doesn’t get rid of white heads (maybe because I am using the “sensitive” brush head. I’ll purchase a deep clean brush head next and see if that works).
  • Doesn’t cleanse the “hard to reach” areas on the base of the nose properly.
  • Cannot prevent or cure acne. If you get pimples because of hormonal reasons, it’s not going to make them disappear magically (but if you get pimples because of blocked pores, this will be quite helpful).

Note:

It’s not one-time investment. It is recommended to change the brush head every 6 months, and brush heads are expensive ($25).  Also, be careful while using it. If you have sensitive, thin skin, don’t use it daily, because some people with thin skin complained of broken capillaries. See how your skin reacts first, and then gradually incorporate it in your routine.

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5 (minus points because it’s expensive and not widely available in India).

Do I Recommend Clarisonic Mia Sonic Skin Cleansing System?

Duh! Yes I highly recommend it! My mom used it for a week when I went home, and she was hooked! I don’t think I can ever go back to not using it. You can purchase multiple brush heads so that other family members can enjoy the benefits too!  Yeah, it’s a long review, but I just wanted to make sure everything’s covered!

High five, Tinkerbell! I surf websites to make a list of all the things that I’d buy when I have enough money. Thanks for this awesome review! Now, excuse me. I have to go and pinch all the loose change from the house so as to save the nearly 6000 bucks that I need to buy this baby. I suppose I am going to learn the true meaning of “pet kaat kar jeena” for the next few months. :P

I too recently bought it in baby pink n love it..agree with your review completely! though i feel its not exactly a must have since scrubbing does the same but yes definitely its cleansing better..i use clarisonic only 2 to 3 times a week since i feel its a little too harsh on my cheeks

yea actually it depends on the skin type too parita. Mine is tough as a rhino’s. Regular scrubbing isn’t enough for me :( So i use this once or twice a day.

Wow me too have same hobby.. making imaginary shopping lists on various websites.. ;) BTW this stuff sounds really amazing. But isn’t Neutrogena making something similar to this? Some wave-power cleanser stuff. Don’t remember its name.

yeah i think they just launched it India too. The mechanism is different though. clarisonic vibrates whereas neutrogena one has a rotating brush head. I have read awesome reviews about the neutrogena one too, and it’s waaayy cheaper (less than 1000 rupees)…so maybe you can give it a try.

Now you can put on all the makeup you want , and never get clogged pores , as you`ll perfectly take it all off :P My sole concern when I put on heavy makeup is – how the hell ami i gonna get it all off XD :P Makeup itself dsnt cause breakouts – it`s the pores that get clogged over time because of semi-cleansing ,and tht`s the culprit. :P Read so many reviews of this one, almost all the youtube gurus swear by this ^_^

I got the PRO one just because of universal charging… it really is one of my best investments ever :)

I like the look of the PRO one…but it’s so insanely expensive! I totally agree about it being a great investment :D

Good review! I, particularly, love the “over-cleansing” prevention feature.

Reply

Tinkerbell December 5, 2012 at 2:38 pm

Yea it’s very easy to overdo it actually..so it’s very thoughtful of them to add such a feature.
