Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup Review

Hello friends,

Hope all of you are enjoying the last month of this year 🙂 Whoa, finally the countdown begins for 2016! I have no idea how 2015 went by and it’s as if I woke up from a long nap, only to welcome 2016 in the calender 😛 came as well as gone now, as if I just woke up from a long -long nap only to welcome 2016 in calendars 😛 Anyway, I am also here to talk about my new purchase from Clinique. Well, Clinique is always the first choice for oily, combination and acne-prone skin type women including me.  I have used their “Acne Solutions” skin care range in the past and have liked their face wash, although I wish Clinique stops using certain ingredients like talc, parabens, etc. I like this “Acne Solutions” powder makeup for my problematic though the shade selection is limited. Let’s read more about Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup!

My Experience with Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup:

The makeup powder comes in a sleek and smart silver metallic compact packaging with a soft sponge applicator which sits comfortably in another compartment, and I appreciate this type of an arrangement. It also has an in-built mirror and I am in love with this smart, hygienic and travel-friendly concept. The sponge applicator is easy to use and washable, much to my liking.

The shade that I have picked up (Fair) is a bit darker shade than “Ivory” which complements my pale skin tone well though I feel it might come up ashy at times. I mean it is such a tricky shade; it may look as a whitish cast on wheatish/light skin types while it comes up slightly ashy on milky skin tones. Winters usually bless me with milky complexion with a hue of yellowish undertones hence I could not opt for “Ivory” as it made me look like a Chinese witch (hubby’s words, and no offence to anyone ):P

This also means that the fair shade may work for most Indian fair/light skin tones with pink-neutral undertones. I think “Ivory” leaves a white cast on my skin and so will be the case with most Indian fair/pale/light skin tones. Thankfully, it comes up really well over liquid foundations, even primer. I usually swipe it over my smoothing primer and never had any difficulty in pulling it off, though there are days when I have used it on bare skin and it came up slightly ashy against my pale skin.

Other than the shade, I am quite happy with the formula and texture of this powder makeup though I am not okay with the “talc” content, but thankfully, I haven’t noticed any side effects of using it. The texture of this powder makeup is velvety and powdery, almost like satin which takes care of the dullness and oil. I personally like using the sponge for maximum coverage as it’s way easy to dab it on problem areas like my nose, cheeks, or to blur out pores and blemishes temporarily.

Although my MUFE primer does half the job of blurring those scars and blemishes, this powder will add to that effect. It is way gentle on my skin as it conceals redness of my skin along with zits perfectly.  In fact, using it on bare skin gives great results though it won’t last longer in that case.  Usually, the powder stays for as long as 7-8 hours on my oily skin, but using it alone with no primer/foundation will shorten its wear time to 5 hours for me even in winters.

Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup

However, even 5 hours seem too good for me as I need more coverage to blur pores than to keep my skin oil free which it does perfectly.  I am impressed to see that it didn’t break me out or accentuate dryness on my cheeks unlike what most other makeup powders do. Actually, nowadays, my skin is acting up and no makeup product favors my skin type; using powder makeup results in flaky dry patches on my cheeks while using lotion or mousse foundation breaks out my skin.

Moreover, I recently suffered from side effects of using a new skin care product which gave me lots of zits and man this Clinique powder makeup helped me in not only covering those teeny zits, but also helped me in soothing my skin though I don’t think it helps in clearing up the blemishes. But it is safe enough for acne-prone skin hence it has been proven that it hasn’t aggravated my skin issues. I am also impressed to see that it does not highlight the laugh lines or fine lines though it may settle on dry patches which should be taken care of.\

Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup

To conclude, I must confess that apart from the shade, there is nothing I should complain about, I am impressed to have stumped upon one makeup product that suits my skin type. It’s suitable for dry skin too as it blends in effortlessly leaving no flaky dry skin, just soft matte skin. I might get this powder again, next time in the shade “Ivory” to mix and match with this shade to suit my skin tone.

Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup:

  • A velvet satin textured powder makeup.
  • Lives up to the claims (up to a large extent).
  • Did not break out or irritate my acne-prone skin, in fact it helped in calming down my skin.
  • A gentle dab of the powder helps to cover redness and small zits on the face.  Using it with a fluffy powder brush gives an airbrush finish to the foundation.
  • It controls oil up to 7-8 hours when used over a primer or foundation while using it on bare skin gives a wear time of up to 5 hours,
  • It gives a perfect matte finish to my skin; also helps in blurring out pores.
  • Works for dry skin also, does not accentuate or aggravate dry skin issues.
  • Does not highlight fine lines on the face.
  • Quite a hygienic and travel-friendly packaging.

Cons of Clinique Acne Solutions Powder Makeup:

  • Merely two shades are available for fair/light skin tone beauties, which may or may not suit Indian skin tones.
  • Contains talc.
  • Does not treat or heal acne.

Well, I sincerely feel that at such a price, I would have picked naturally-derived makeup products sans talc and other chemicals. This powder makeup gives a decent amount of coverage unlike liquid and creamy foundations.
