Cosmetic Brands That Do Not Test on Animals

Going through the pros and cons of IMBB reviews, you might have noticed “not tested on animals,” in the pros section many a times.  Yes, “vegan” or “against animal testing” is a big pro.  Did you know millions of animals are hurt or killed in the name of testing cosmetics.  Many cosmetic brands test their products on animals before it reaches you and put them through gruesome procedures in the process.  When I read more about animal testing, I was appalled! To test whether cosmetics or the ingredients in beauty products cause any adverse reaction on humans, they are first tested on the animals – on their eyes, nose, mouth, etc.  The most horrific cosmetic testing is Draize test, in which the cosmetic ingredient is directly applied to the eyes and skin of the test animals such as rabbits and mice.  The animals are tortured and sometimes go completely blind and disabled as a result.  It is a cruel test and there are many other such procedures followed in the name of cosmetic testing.  I feel really proud that India has completely banned testing cosmetics on animals.  We need to encourage all these brands which use safe ingredients and thus do not need to harm poor animals.  Here’s a list of cosmetic/beauty brands that do not test their products on animals.  If you strictly want to shun and embrace the “no cruelty” policy for cosmetics, check for the leaping bunny logo on products.   Sadly, L’Occitane and Caudalie brands have to still test their products on animals so that they can sell them out in certain countries where the rules are stringent and require cosmetics to be tested on animals first before reaching humans.  Remarkably, these brands previously did not test their products on animals and had the leaping bunny logo on them.

  1. It is sooo good of these companies to not do this cruel thing *headbang* *headbang* i never knew a complete list.. mainly just knew tbs *happy dance* thanks for the article *happydance*

  2. I’ve always believed in animal-cruelty free ethics, dis info is really helpful.
I personally once enquired Loreal by sending them an e-mail, asking if they followed the same. And they did respond mentioning dat they no longer tests on animals. It was a huge relief for me, as im a fan of Loreal.

  3. So basically 90% of products reviewed here are against Animal Testing. They just claim to do so. Not sure of the actual behind the scenes truth:(

  4. In my quest to learn what brands test on animals, I come upon your post. You need to revisit this list because there are a number of things wrong. Any brand that sells in China is required to test on animals…fact. The Body Shop, Loreal, Laura Mercier and others are all selling in China, therefore they must test on animals. If they say they don’t test, they are lying. Be aware of this law everyone…boycott these companies.

    1. I agree Jennifer. I never take a companies’ website claim at face value, and always back it up from someone that has taken the time to contact them with specific questions (such as do you ask anyone else to test your ingredients?). There are plenty of blogs dedicated to truly cruelty-free cosmetics and toiletries.

L’Oreal’s website states “An exception could be made if regulatory authorities required it for safety or regulatory purposes.”, meaning that they are happy for their products to be tested on animals in order to sell in China. Not so cruelty-free then?

I think that the Body Shop are not selling in China. They had airport duty free shops which were exempt from the testing law, but pulled out once told that their products might still have to be tested. I know that some people still boycott them due to L’Oreal being the parent company.
