Cover FX Moonlight Custom Enhancer Drops Review

One can never have too many highlighters, right? After reviewing Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer #4 for you ages ago, here is another liquid highlighter review. Though I loved the quality of the Armani Fluid Sheer, over the years, I have realized that I don’t use the liquid variants too often and then they sit on the sidelines. So, I was reluctant to buy a new one, but since my friend absolutely insisted that I get it, I finally did!

Product Description:
A bottle of ultra-concentrated illuminating and bronzing drops that allow you to customize your ideal glow with a liquid metal or sun-kissed finish.  Customer Enhancer Drops makes bringing adding a highlighting, strobing, or bronzing effect to any liquid cosmetic or skincare product easy. Add them to your favorite foundation, primer, serum, and moisturizer. Available in six universal shades, including four illuminators and two bronzers, these drops can also be used alone, even on top of powder, to create a buildable highlight or sun-kissed tint. Custom Enhancer Drops were formulated with a high concentration of pearls that produce a lit-from-within glow without appearing too glittery or overdone. The more drops you use, the more luminosity you’ll get. The result is a beautiful, camera-ready, radiant finish. It is formulated without parabens. This product is free of mineral oil, gluten, talc, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, DBP (dibutyl phthlate), and camphor.

Packaging:
The product comes in a glass bottle with a dropper dispenser which is great because it allows way more control on the quantity of product being dispensed out than a pump bottle. The bottle is sleek and small with only 15 ml of product.

My Experience with Cover FX Moonlight Custom Enhancer Drops:

I love highlighters, but they can be the bane of my existence because of the following reasons:

  • I have oily skin.
  • I have open pores.
  • I have textured skin.

And yet, I love highlighters *eye roll*

Shade/Color:  Till now, the liquid highlighters I have used are more refined, subtle types – MAC Strobe Cream/Lotion, Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer #04. Well, there is nothing subtle about the CoverFx Custom Enhance Drops in Moonlight. This is very much the highlighter of the NextGen Insta crowd – it is bold and blingy. As per CoverFx – this particular shade imparts a soft, silver glow. “Soft” – are you kidding me!! 😉

The glow is definitely metallic – though “soft” isn’t the word which comes to the mind. This highlighter is all metallic and bold. It is a good thing that the bottle is only 15 ml because this itself will last you a lifetime. Each drop is an extremely high concentration of pigment, so a little really goes a long long way.

The first time I tried it, I applied about 3-4 tiny, minute dots on each side of my face, on the high points of the cheekbone. I quickly dabbed it with my fingers and it kind of seemed to melt right in. It spread nicely and was easy to work with. However, once I was through with the dabbing, I could barely see a little shine. And I started wondering what the noise was all about. I finished my makeup and was all set to step out of the vanity area while my face was turned half away from the mirror and as I turned my head, I was blinded by this metallic sheen. Those 3-4 minute drops were way way too much. I couldn’t see the effect head on, but at the correct angle – wow! It is literally kaboom!!

The good news – it is possible to control the application or intensity by controlling the amount of product being used. You really need about a small drop to use as a highlighter – unless you are consciously going for a super blingy effect for a Insta pic or something.

“Moonlight” is a metallic light gold shimmer. Its gives a multi-luminescent sheen when the angle changes. This should work well with most skin tones except maybe very deeper ones.

The beauty of a liquid highlighter is obviously its ability to mix into any liquid. So, apart from applying it on its own, one can as easily add it to their foundation, primer or moisturiser. This

Mixed in with foundation: This is easy to do with liquid foundation since the product is fairly runny. You have to ensure you don’t go overboard with the amount. A drop is enough in one pump of your foundation. Used in the right quantity, it adds life to the foundation and your face.

It can be used all over the face before applying foundation or mixed in with your moisturizer. The effect under foundation is obviously subtler.

However, what I have noticed after using liquid highlighters mixed in with foundation, is that they aren’t really the best option for an all over glow, for someone who has oily skin, especially when flash photography is involved. I learned this the hard way, so trust me and let us leave it at that!

Texture:  The texture on this one is fantastic because despite being a liquid, it does not break down the foundation under it. Also, post application, it dries down, so does not move or transfer. This in turn, gives it longevity too. It stays put the whole day.

Pigmentation:  I have mentioned this earlier as well. It is EXTREMELY concentrated and pigmented. A little really does go a long way with this one.

Longevity:  Full day, it just stays put – does not melt or fade away. Gives me a good 10-12 hours!

Pros of Cover FX Moonlight Custom Enhancer Drops:

  • Easily buildable or blendable.
  • Works well over, under and mixed in with foundation.
  • Gives a distinct metallic sheen but can be used sparingly to give a soft glow.
  • Has a metallic sheen – no chunky glitter particles.
  • Can be used mixed in with moisturizer or primer as well.
  • Comes in a neat packaging.
  • Extremely long-lasting.
  • Used sparingly – it does not emphasise the texture of the skin. However, if you build the intensity, then the texture will get accentuated.
  • Did not break me out.

Cons of Cover FX Moonlight Custom Enhancer Drops:

  • It is easy to go overboard with this one.

IMBB Rating:
5/5

This is definitely an interesting product. I think this is one of the most concentrated ones that I have come across – as compared to MAC strobe cream, Becca shimmering skin perfector or Armani Fluid Sheer. Though it is easy to spread and sheer out, it is as easy to build it up to a high shine/metallic effect – which might work very well for a makeup artist, especially one who does editorial work.
