I am back today with my reviews of certain products; which I am trying out for the forthcoming winter season. My lips do tend to get dry and cracked in winters; although I do use lip balm every night. This is a recent one in my line of lip balms; and I am pretty much liking it…yeah!!!!!

Product Description:

Dermalogica has created a skin care line that addresses teenage skin – Clean Start.  Not only did they develop a line that was geared towards teenagers, but they also asked for their help in developing the naming of the products, labeling, packaging, and feedback on what “works and doesn’t work.” The result is Clean Start – a system of eight dual-action, fun, fresh, skin-healthy products that feel and smell great without being full of stuff that’s bad for skin – such as artificial fragrances, colors, mineral oil, and S.D. alcohol. Another thing you might like: we don’t test on animals. This line up of clean start has many different products:

• Wash off cleanser: face wash.
• All over clear: spray toner.
• Ready set scrub: face mask which woks as scrub as well.
• Welcome Matte 15: matte moisturiser with spf 15.
• Bedtime for breakouts: night time moisturiser.
• Hit the spot: spot treatment cream.
• Brighten up SPF 15: moisturiser cum primer SPF 15, and
• This lip balm.

This lip shine is a super-smoothing glistening lip shield that moisturizes and conditions to deliver the softest lips. Supplies the perfect amount of shine without stickiness and ensures a super soft pucker.

Rs. 945/- for 9 ml product (ouch!!!!!!…yeah…it hurts the pocket).

My Take on Dermalogica Clean Start Smart Mouth Lip Shine:

The product comes in a white colored box packaging, on which all instructions and ingredients are listed.  The squeeze tube packaging inside houses the product whose actual design is nice, quite straight forward and clean. The tube is covered with a plastic cap, inside which is a plastic applicator with a few small holes. The product needs to be squeezed out of the tube. The squeezing is quite tough; and gives one an idea that the product might be very thick, but when the product applies on to the lips, it feels quite lightweight. It is not at all sticky. Because of the applicator, I find it travel friendly; as well as free from contact with air and germs.

It is a transparent lip balm, which has a wonderful citrusy-vanilla fragrance, absolutely out of this world!!!!!In spite of the fact that it contains a small amount of fragrance chemicals, this is a well-formulated lip moisturizer. The fragrance is not at all overpowering and in spite of the fragrance, it does not have any flavour to it.

The texture is very smooth, feels very light on the lips, does not feel sticky at all. There are no added irritants like menthol.  It does not have any shimmer particles in it; and gives a nice MLBB like glossy look to the lips. It may be applied on bare lips as well as on any matte lipsticks. Since it has a thicker consistency, it does not bleed at all. It does not give any artificial glossy look to the lips; instead the lips look quite soft and juicy on its own; while the product works to heal the lips.

Regarding its performance – the only thing I need to say about this is SUPERB.  I have applied it in mornings or at bedtime, on dry, chapped lips, as well as on matte lipsticks and it has impressed me in all its roles. It stays on for a very long time on the lips. And if you ever wipe it off, you can still feel the product having seeped into the lips and working from beneath; it totally repairs my lips within 2-3 applications; sometimes even overnight. My lips have only felt better, softer, smoother, and hydrated since I first started using this. It’s not tested on animals and does not contain any mineral oil.

• Heals the lips very well, very fast.

• Even after wiping it off; the lips feel soft and hydrated; as if the balm has sunk inside the lips and is working from within.
• Amazing fragrance.
• Transparent gloss, no flavour.
• Lasts for a long time on the lips.
• No shimmer or glitter inside the product, no irritants like menthol.
• Imparts a soft, juicy, naturally fresh look to the lips.
• Contains many beneficial ingredients.
• Not tested on animals.
• Does not contain mineral oil.

Cons of Dermalogica Clean Start Smart Mouth Lip Shine:

• Expensive for the quantity available.
• A bit hard to squeeze out of tube.
• Limited availability in India.
• Would have loved some SPF protection at this price.

Would I Recommend Dermalogica Clean Start Smart Mouth Lip Shine?

Yes, I will.  I know that we do have many good and inexpensive lip balms in the market; but this one I will definitely recommend to all of you; for routine use; as well as for those who suffer from problematic lips in the dry season.  This will definitely heal your lips, cure your dry and sore lips; yet is most suitable for use throughout the day. This one is a definite keeper; and will not make your lips look unattractive or greasy at all.
