The Importance of Sun Protection During Winters!!

To keep you and your skin looking beautiful and away from damage, I have come up with this interesting post, to make you understand the importance of sun-protection throughout the year!! And if you thought you didn’t need it in this chilly weather, read further!!! 🙂

If you thought that summer was the only time your skin needed protection from the sun, THINK AGAIN, because it is as important to be sun-safe during the colder months as in the warmer ones!! Even if you feel it’s too cold outside and you do not need any SPF, you’re inviting some serious sun damage!! The sun does not stop stalking you even when it hides behind those beautiful clouds; it definitely has its eyes on you!! 😀 The strength of the UV rays does not decrease with the cold. It’s a myth to feel that you only get sun-burnt during the hot weather! It does not matter what the temperature is outside, you can get sun-burned even in the coldest of times!!!!

Sun-Block All The Way: Winters are definitely not the times to give your sun blocks some rest; you need a SPF of 15 or more all through the year, irrespective of the weather!! The sun-block needs to re-applied from time to time, so as to avoid any sun exposure, especially during the winters, when the weather will dry the skin out and strip the sun-block off your skin!! Also, when you are out for too long and you are sweating, it is a sign that you need to re-apply you sun block! Try using sun-blocks that contain Titanium Di-oxide and Zinc Oxide as they provide UVA and UVB protection and are also know to be less irritating to the skin.

Show Your Lips Some Love: it’s only your skin that’s prone to damage; your lips need protection too. Your pucker needs that extra dose of love as well with SPF protection of 15 or higher as well, in order to avoid, dry, cracked lips which will further lead to skin cancer. The lip balm needs to be re-applied throughout the day to retain moisture and form a barrier against sun damage!!

Get Those Glasses And Hats Out!! Being sun-safe does not just mean avoiding the sun; it also means that you need to cover up sun-exposed areas on your body! It’s advised to wear a huge hat that covers the whole of your head along with the neck and ears. For your eyes, you have those stunning pair of glasses, to make you look instantly styled and glamorous.

Check the UV scales: No matter what the weather is, you need to be updated with the UV scales i.e. if they are low, high or extreme to cut short the time you spend outside in the sun especially between 10 am in the morning to 4 p.m in the noon. The best way to find out the intensity of sun exposure is by checking your own shadow- if it is shorter than you really are which it usually is at mid-day, you need some serious sun safety!!

Eat Right To Avoid Damage: Try having those veggies and fruits that are rich in anti-oxidants, to help with sun damage. On the other hand, try avoiding meat, carbohydrates, sugars and processed foods, which can aggravate the damage and make things even worse.

Winter can cause a number of skin challenges from sun-burn to wind-burn to preventing dry skin!! With a little effort you can take care of your skin by preventing it from damage while making the most out of the weather! 🙂
