DIY Coffee Grounds Body Polish

Beauties! 🙂

I’ve been gone for a while now, as I’m busy enjoying the last days of my vacations. I’m back with another DIY, that I’ve been religiously carrying out since a year. Coffee lovers can rejoice over this body polish! 😀 Coffee grounds are the remains after coffee is brewed that is to be disposed of after brewing. It has excellent uses for skin, so it can be put to use by storing it in a container and put in the refrigerator rather than discarding.

I love to experiment with stuff in kitchen, and it is your best beauty store. I keep trying out different and new things to enhance my skin and hair, in the best natural way possible to shield it and minimize the effects of chemicals that are found in daily use products. It is disappointing to see some chemical names listed even in the herbal products these days. So, I feel it is best to spare some time off our schedules and pamper ourselves with some easily available ingredients in our kitchen. Todays DIY is a body scrub or rather a body polish, which I like to call it as. This scrub or polish mainly helps in reducing cellulite and also makes skin bouncy and soft.

Ingredients:

Coffee grounds-1 tbsp
Sea salt- 1 tbsp
Sugar- 1 tbsp
Olive oil- 1 tbsp
Eucalyptus oil- a few drops
Honey- 1 tbsp

Step 1: Mix all the dry ingredients, i.e. the coffee grounds, sea salt and sugar. I have used coffee grounds that have been used, and it works just as good as the fresh one. Better to use rather than dispose.

Step 2: Add honey, olive oil and a few drops of eucalyptus oil into the mixture and mix well. That’s it; the polish is now ready to be used.

Step 3: Apply this scrub over dampened skin and massage gently for 5 minutes. Let it soak for about 10 minutes before rinsing it.

I love using this a lot since I am a die-hard coffee addict, this smells amazing too. I could notice the difference post usage. After one use, my skin was way smoother than before. This body polish has been working out quite well for me provided it is so easy to reach for, however busy (read lazy :P) I am.

Exfoliation is a must at least once in a week, to remove the dirt and dead skin cells. With this rate of pollution and dry air, dirt accumulation is more and leads to more skin problems. Over usage of scrubs can dry out skin. Twice a week is perfect and works well. Any DIY would show results over a period of time, hence it is best to be followed regularly after testing for any allergic reactions.

Tips:

  1. Sea salt is coarse, with large granules. For sensitive skin, they can be crushed into smaller sized granules manually, with the help of a mortar and pestle.
  2. Oil of your choice may be used, for example coconut oil, almond oil etc…, which works best for your skin.
  3. Eucalyptus oil can be replaced with any other essential oil of your choice.

Benefits of Ingredients Used:

Coffee grounds: It is the best remedy to fight cellulite. It is a rich source of antioxidants that help to retain skin elasticity, protects the skin and also bolsters it’s natural defense properties. The caffeine content helps to protect the skin from adverse effects of UVB. Not only that, it promotes blood circulation. By doing so the skin appears fresh and radiant. The soft granule is not harsh on the skin and effectively removes dead skin, thus making the skin smoother, softer and bouncy.

Sea salt: Sea salt is rich in minerals and vital vitamins that provide nourishment for skin cells. Also, the calcium content present acts as a natural pore cleanser that unclogs pores, thus removing the dirt. The texture of sea salt can act as a natural exfoliator and removes the layer of dead skin revealing the fresh one underneath. Sea salt also helps boost blood circulation.

Sugar: Sugar is rich in glycolic acid that helps to maintain healthy skin. The granules act as a natural exfoliator and that helps to eliminate blemishes without being harsh on the skin.

Olive oil: It is abundant in vitamins A and E, minerals, natural fatty-acids and antioxidants. It is known to work wonders for skin and hair. It helps to prolong youth, moisturize and hydrates skin and makes it supple.

Eucalyptus oil: It can be used to obtain a blemish free skin with it’s anti-bacterial properties. It provides a soothing sensation that helps calm the skin and body. Inhaling will relax the mind and gives a rejuvenated feel.

Honey: Honey has to find it’s place in any beauty recipe. It is also rich in antioxidants, which help in moisturizing the skin making it soft and supple.

So that’s it, I hope this will help you all like it did for me. Save your trip to the spa and enjoy this body polish! I’d be glad to know your experiences. 🙂

Ciao!
