Dr. Organic is a UK-based brand that makes all kinds of skincare and hair-care products. The Rose Otto Shampoo is the first product that I have tried from this brand. My dad brought this for me from London a few months ago. He thought I would like it and I did 🙂

Rose Shampoo 1

I was instantly drawn to it for several reasons. This is a clear, gel-based shampoo that is very gentle on the hair and the scalp. It has a beautiful rose fragrance. It contains several bioactive, natural and organic ingredients (of course, that doesn’t mean that it does not contain any chemicals!). More importantly, this is a shampoo that claims to be free from parabens, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), artificial colour, harsh chemicals, harsh fragrances or harsh preservatives. I would like to believe that at least some of those claims are true.

Rose Shampoo 2

Let me first describe my hair type for you. I have fairly long, thick and fine hair. It is somewhere in between straight and wavy. My scalp is a little on the dry side, but I don’t have any flaking problems. A somewhat dry scalp actually works to my advantage, because I can easily get by for 3-4 days without shampooing my hair (much needed in the cold season!) and it doesn’t look greasy.

Since my hair is very fine and very thick, it is prone to tangling a lot. I absolutely cannot dispense with conditioner. It also makes my hair look tame, since some shampoos can really make it look wild!

Rose Shampoo 3

When looking to buy shampoo, I make sure that it won’t make my hair too dry or frizzy.  More importantly, I like my hair to feel squeaky clean every time I shampoo it, so my shampoo has to be an excellent hair and scalp cleanser. Thirdly, I don’t like any shampoo that causes my hair to tangle up further. I usually look for shampoos that are meant to smooth the hair. However, this particular shampoo- the Rose Otto Shampoo – is a volumising shampoo. It probably doesn’t add too much volume to my hair, but it doesn’t let it look limp either. It is a pretty good cleanser and it lathers decently enough. It doesn’t make my hair too dry or frizzy, but a conditioner to follow it up is a must.

Here is the pros and cons list to help you decide:

Pros of Dr. Organic’s Organic Rose Otto Shampoo – Volumising Hair Therapy:

  • Like it says, it makes the hair look somewhat fuller (the volumising effect).
  • It is a very good cleanser for the hair and scalp. It makes me feel squeaky clean after every use.
  • It doesn’t dry out the hair, but an after-shampoo conditioner or a leave-in conditioner is something that I would highly recommend.
  • It is free of parabens, SLS, artificial colour, etc. (as mentioned on the label). It is rare to find a shampoo free of SLS that cleanses the hair and scalp well!
  • It has a beautiful, rose fragrance.

Cons of Dr. Organic’s Organic Rose Otto Shampoo – Volumising Hair Therapy:

  • Don’t expect the shampoo to add any dramatic volume to your hair.
  • This is not totally free of chemicals (so don’t get carried away) — read the fine print! But, of course, it’s almost impossible to find a shampoo totally free of chemicals.

Verdict on Dr. Organic’s Organic Rose Otto Shampoo – Volumising Hair Therapy:

As a shampoo, this is pretty good. However, please don’t expect it to have magical effects upon your hair. No shampoo ever does! The conditioners and the serums have more important roles to play when it comes to refining the texture of your hair. This one is a good cleanser of the hair and scalp and it doesn’t seem to have any harsh or damaging effects. That, for me, is a good enough shampoo.  This product is not available in India yet. It is available in the UK and Australia. It might also be available in other countries, but I’m not too sure of that.
