Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum Review

Hello everyone,

Lately, I have been hooked on chemical exfoliants, also known as AHA and BHA. They have done wonders for my skin and this review will be on the Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos™ Glycolic Night Serum.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

Product Description:
A 12 percent glycolic serum for night that refines and resurfaces skin by gently dissolving dead skin cells and supporting natural collagen production.

What it is formulated to do:
T.L.C. Framboos™ is a refreshing, hydrating gel that resurfaces dull, congested skin by gently lifting dead skin cells away, revealing an even-toned and radiant complexion. Fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and other signs of aging will be visibly improved, along with excess oiliness, acne, and the appearance of pores. The powerful blend of glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric, and salicylic acids along with raspberry extract sink  in easily and deliver the most effective and precise level of chemical exfoliation—without the harsh side effects. Horse chestnut, bearberry, and white tea help to calm, brighten, and protect for a clear, smooth finish. Additionally, it enhances the performance of other products by clearing the way for maximum absorption.  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

What else you need to know:
AHA’s can be irritating if not formulated properly.  A cactus plant enzyme blend was added, which is designed to reduce neurosensory irritation caused by the application of topical products such as AHAs. This cruelty-free product does not contain gluten.  Drunk Elephant formulations only contain ingredients that benefit skin health and assist the formulation, keeping them safe and making them ideal for even the most sensitive skin. The brand is a supporter of IEF (International Elephant Foundation).

Suggested Usage:

  • At night, apply to clean, dry face, neck, chest, and backs of hands, avoiding the eye area.
  • Allow to dry and follow with D.E. Virgin Marula™ Oil for maximum effectiveness.
  • Also works incredibly well as a spot-treatment.
  • Shake well before use to reactivate the gel.

My Experience with Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum:

Packaging:  I love the simple yet practical packaging. It is a lightweight plastic with a pump dispenser. The pump does not disperse a lot of product at once, hence helps control wastage.

Texture/Consistency:  This serum is of gel consistency. It is clear and spreads and absorbs completely into the skin in less than a minute. You may or may not feel slight tingling on your skin upon application. Since I am used to using chemical exfoliation on my skin, I do not feel anything, but you do need to be wary if you have particularly sensitive skin or have inflammation due to acne or sunburn.

Application:  I apply this every night before bed and have been using this consistently for a few weeks. This product (and every other chemical exfoliant) does dry out my already dry skin hence I find it important to top this with a facial oil or a moisturizer.

Feel on skin:  This serum is a bit more stronger and causes more dryness when compared to the previous AHA products I have used previously, for example, Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10 percent Hydrating Gel because of the fact that this product is more concentrated (hence more effective) with 12% glycolic acid and it also contains salicylic, lactic, tartaric and citric acid.  Once absorbed into the skin, it does leave a very slight tacky feeling which is not too bothersome as I do top this with other products.

Results:  This serum starts showing effects from the very first use. In the morning, my skin feels softer and smoother and looks visibly radiant. With consistent use, I found this really effective in smoothing out the texture of my skin and also evens out my skin by reducing the appearance of past acne scars, hyperpigmentation and redness. I used to have some white head bums around my chin area which were not really a cause of concern, but ever since I started using this serum, I have found that the area feels much smoother and quite less bumpy.

With regular use of this product, I have also found that I don’t get as many breakouts and my skin does not even need as many layers of makeup. This product has never irritated my skin. I do need to be careful with my sunscreen application when I go out as AHA and BHA products can make your skin sensitive and more susceptible to the harmful rays of sun.

Since I am in my mid 20s, I cannot support the claim of it reducing the appearance of wrinkles, but when it comes to anti-ageing, prevention is always better than cure.

Overall, I love this product. Though I also did love my Peter Thomas Roth hydrating gel, that one was much more milder and took a long time to show results whereas this product starts showing results quickly. It is more on the expensive side, but I think it is worth the money. I highly recommend this product, but more so I recommend everyone to incorporate an exfoliant in your skin care regime.

Pros of Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum:

  • Sturdy and practical packaging with a pump.
  • Lightweight texture, gets easily absorbed into the skin.
  • Evens out skin tone and reduces the appearance of acne scars and hyperpigmentation.
  • Smooths out the texture of skin by reducing white head bumps.
  • No noticeable scent.
  • Reduces dullness of skin and makes it more radiant.
  • Reduces breakouts.

Cons of Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum:

  • Does dry out skin when used on its own, but you can minimize that by topping this off with a facial oil or moisturizer.
  • Everybody’s skin is different. Though this did not irritate my skin, there is no guarantee you might have not have a reaction, so always do a test first.

  1. I loved the brand name, though none of us would love to have drunk elephant around. 😛 I am also trying a similar product at the moment, hope my review turns out to be as great as yours. 🙂
