e.l.f. 3-in-1 Mascara – Very Black Review

Greetings to dramatic lash ladies!!!

This is my first mascara from ELF and although I have had a good experience with ELF products, alas, I won’t be able to say the same for this one. I have tried several expensive and budget mascaras on my religious trips for makeup purchases, but had never tried any mascara from Elf and perhaps will never try again in the future as well. Read on further to know more details about this mascara.

My Take on e.l.f. 3-in-1 Mascara – Very Black:

Packaging:  A cylindrical, matte black tube with a twist up cap. The spooly brush is unique type and has a tiny ball-like protrusion in front and the bristles are rather dense like a coniferous tree. It picks up just the right amount of product in one pumping motion and there is no need to remove the excess, least my lashes clump together.

Texture:  It’s not very liquid-y or wet, but rather has a very thick consistency and is meant to hold on to my lashes and give it a lift and volume. It, however, fails to do so, but on the bright side, it does not clump my lashes or leave any nasty mascara goop behind.

Pigmentation: To get the desired result as claimed by the product, one needs to apply multiple coats, but even then, that does not get the job done. It gives long lashes but not dense or voluminous ones, which is what I look for in a mascara when I buy it.

Application: Remove the extra product off of the tip of the spoolie and apply from the root up – use the usual wiggle motion to get a neat, natural yet voluminous “false lash” look; except in this case, the voluminous effect is not apparent.

Wear Time:  Stays on for the entire day, has minimal fallout. It is waterproof and sweat proof, and stays in place till I remove with a good makeup remover.

I like this mascara, it gives length to my lashes, a nice lift and life to my eyes, but to add volume, I have to further layer another coat of curling mascara to get the desired look. I usually use two different kinds of mascara at a time anyway, so I don’t mind that part, but people who don’t like to hoard makeup or are just plain lazy might not like to do so.

• Spoolie is dense and covers all the lashes in one go.
• Provides length to lashes in a few strokes.
• Multiple coats give an appearance of long, luscious lashes.
• Dries easily.
• Does not clump lashes.
• Does not make lashes dry or brittle.
• Smudge proof, water proof and sweat proof.
• Does not leave mascara goop behind.
• Affordable.

Cons of e.l.f. 3-in-1 Mascara – Very Black:

• Adds no volume to the lashes.
• I am not sure why a ball-like protrusion is present in front.

Would I Repurchase e.l.f. 3-in-1 Mascara – Very Black?
No, because it didn’t live up to its claim and I usually layer different mascaras on my lashes because I like to and not because I have to and hence I would not purchase a mascara which lacks voluminizing properties.
