Easy and Effective Home Remedies For Dandruff- Do It Yourself

Hello everyone,

Seeing all the easy and simple DIY home remedies to take care of our skin, hair, etc. I am much inspired to share with all you lovely ladies a sure shot means of getting rid of dandruff in about two to three weeks. Yes I am serious!!! I have been using this for over a year now and now I have started using the same for my husband as well, and he is loving it.

Dandruff is a serious problem and almost all of us have been suffering from dandruff at some point of time. I hate it. Its two years now, that I have shifted to Pondicherry, and since then I have been suffering with this problem. It must be because of the excessive humidity as well as pollution. Trust me; I have tried all possible dandruff treatment shampoo, even the medicated ones. But to no avail. Those found over the counter works for some time, but the problem again appears after some times and since I have thin hair, every time I used it, it left my hair damaged and dry. It was then my aunt told me about this fabulous and super easy dandruff remedy. I can bet you on its benefits. Trust me you are going to love it.

Things required: (for the first one)

Almond Oil (you can change it for any other oil you are comfortable with)
Castor Oil
Half a lemon
home made dandruff remedy (2)

1. Take 5 table spoon of Almond oil and 1 and a half table spoon of Castor Oil. (you can take it according to your hair length keeping the ratio of the oil 5:1.5, i.e, if you are taking 5 parts of almond oil, add 1 and half part of castor oil. You can double it in the same ratio)

Tip: Since castor oil is a heavy oil, excessive use can make your hair sticky and uncomfortable.

2. Then squeeze the juice of the half lime and mix it well so that the juice and the oil mix well with each other and you get a translucent liquid.

3. Massage this mixture slowly with you figure tips. Or you can take the help of someone else as well (and enjoy the massage). Leave it overnight or for a minimum of two to three hours before you wash it off with a mild shampoo.

You can apply this mixture every alternate day and you will definitely see visible results in a week or two. Not only will it relieve you of the dandruff, it will also leave your hair soft and silky because of the presence of almond and castor oil. You will also get relief from hair fall. Three in one benefit you see.

Ingredients for the next one:

Methi or fenugreek seeds
Juice of half a lemon

home made dandruff remedy (3)
1. Take one to two table spoons of methi seeds and soak it over night, and then make a paste of it. However, I regularly use this treatment, so I have powdered some methi seeds in the grinder and stored it in a container to save time.

2. If you are using powdered methi seeds than take two to three table spoon of it in a bowl (according to the length of your hair, you may need to add more or less powder)

3. Squeeze the juice of half lime and add some water to make a paste out of it

4. Keep it over night or if you have forgotten to do so, leaving it like that for two to three hours shall do the job

You will see that the mixture has swollen up a bit. Add some more water if the mixture seems to have dried up. Massage the mixture on your scalp for some time, with soft strokes.

Then leave it on for an hour and wash it off with a mild shampoo. This can be done twice a week. The effects are amazing.

After you get cured of this dandruff trouble you can minimize the application to one in a week. What I prefer doing is, I apply the methi paste in the morning and the same day I apply the oil mixture at night and leave it overnight and wash it off the neat day. I am delighted with the results that I have found.
Note: If you have excessive dandruff, it might take some more time for you to get cured completely. But you will definitely be benefited if you have patience in using these remedies regularly.

Hope you find these tips helpful!! Have a great day ahead.

Amropali.. thanks for these anti-dandruff recipes but I dont think we should keep lemon in hair for long. I think keeping it for 1 hr is sufficient.

Yes Surabhi you are right.. lemon should not be kept on hair or even skin for too long.. but since I am using it in combination with almond and castor oil.. there is no harm in it… I have been doing it for quiet some time now :) :) the presence of the oil keeps the hair conditioned… and keeping it for less than one or two hours will not give you much effect :(

yes Pooja.. to some extent.. but goes away easily when you shampoo it off :) don’t keep it on for more than an hour so it would not dry out much and can be removed easily. One more thing is that try using the powdered methi and keep it a bit coarse.. that is what I do :) :)

Just a quick tip here…if curd and methi is used together then it’s easy to wash off and curd helps in dandruff fighting too :)

oh wow!! I will try that as well.. Is two to three spoons of curd enough? Previously I used to apply only curd to condition my hair, but I have severe sinusitis problem, so stopped using that, cause I get severe head-ache after that :( :(

Amropali Nath November 25, 2012 at 10:47 pm

it will.. its all upto your comfort level.. :) :) I prefer shampooing it off cause the smell is also quiet strong… :) :)

I use both of them amropali and they work well…. But washing off the methi pack takes so long that I don’t prefer it over oil and lemon…

Amropali Nath November 25, 2012 at 10:39 pm

that is surely a trouble some task.. try using methi power instead of the overnight soaked seeds paste.. the paste becomes too slippery and that’s the reason it refuses to come off.. keeping the powder coarse will further solve your problem :)

I have 1 question. Can I Store the Oil? I mean Preparing in large portion and keeping it in a bottle, will the lemon cause problem? Or is there any supplementary for the lemon?

Nice post, Thanks for sharing…..
