ELF Cool Coral Mineral Lipstick Review

Hola!

Am I the only one who has looked at a lipstick online and been completely wrong about the shade? Well, I recently visited the e.l.f. website and was completely floored by this shade called “Cool Coral.” So, I ordered a bunch of stuff and had it delivered to my brother’s house in the United States. As excited as I was about receiving my stuff, my excitement died a little when I saw this lipstick and tried it on. (Sigh!)

Price : $ 1

ELF Claims:
Now you can hydrate your lips and get a lasting soft color naturally! This nourishing blend of exotic oils, natural waxes, vitamins and plant extracts create the perfect moisturizing formula. The sleek lipstick has superior color payoff, glides easily onto lips, and is long wearing.

My Experience With ELF Cool Coral Mineral Lipstick :

Packaging: ELF always package their stuff such that they look more expensive than they actually are. So is the case with this lipstick. It looks luxurious and sturdy and sleek. There’s nothing that screams “$ 1” about it. In fact, if you didn’t know the price, you could never guess it based on the packaging alone. Love that about e.l.f.

Consistency: The lipstick goes on very smooth on the lips and the pigmentation is great. It smells horrible and I mean it. It feels moisturising on the lips and is very creamy. However, I have a feeling that this will melt if left in the sun too long. The lipstick comes off easily while eating/drinking and you will have to reapply, so staying power is moderate. The shade looks way darker on the website than in person. I chose this color because it looked like a rosy tan on the website. Very misleading e.l.f.!

Shade, Texture and Pigmentation: Boy, oh boy. Was I wrong about this shade or what? I’ve already ranted enough about my error in judging the shade. It makes me look 3 shades darker than I am. It is an extremely light, cool-toned orange with tiny gold specks of shimmer. I see this shade suiting only the extremely fair/pale skin tones. It makes me look ridiculous, like I’m ready to break into a Nicki Minaj number; nothing coral about it really.

The texture is smooth and I’m guessing the darker shades would’ve made me very happy because it is just the shade that I have a problem with. The staying power is below average and it transfers easily, but then again, it’s expecting too much from a 1 dollar lipstick.

Nailed it or failed it?
Formula: Nailed it
Shade, Staying Power, Scent: Failed it

I think what I like most about this lipstick is the packaging honestly. I would love to try a few of the darker shades from this range, but this particular shade does absolutely nothing for me. I’ll have to pass it on to someone at least 5 shades lighter than me.

Pros of ELF Cool Coral Mineral Lipstick :

• Creamy and buttery.
• Sleek packaging.
• Very very affordable.
• Moisturising.
• Good color pay off & pigmentation.

Cons of ELF Cool Coral Mineral Lipstick :

• Transfers.
• Shade too light for Medium/Dark skin tones.
• Smells like dirt.
• Availability in India.

Would I Repurchase ELF Cool Coral Mineral Lipstick ?
Not in a million years. I would love to try other shades though.

  1. I actually loved the shade 😛 you can even mix it up with other lipsticks to change its colour and make your brand new shade 🙂

  2. I know that feel when you bought a shade too light for your skintone. It’s such a party-pooper! they should name a really shitty shade ‘party-pooper’.. Hehe.. i’ve read before that most of the elf mineral lipsticks are way lighter than their actual colour.

  3. I really like the way you review… the part where you explain if the brand nailed it or failed it, specifically. I am not at all a fan of this shade. Also, the fact that it smells like dirt is scary enough to keep me away from it. 😀

    1. Thanks Shikha. Yes, you really have to smell it to believe it. I can only think of a dust storm when I smell this lipstick.

    1. Yes Garima, I can’t wait to try their lipsticks from a different range. I’ve heard the seductive line is pretty amazing.
