ELF Custom Driftwood Eyeshadow Review

Hello Lovely Readers!!!

This is the second last ELF custom eyeshadow that I had purchased as part of my ELF online haul. I am not that excited about this particular color because I have several variants of this color in other palettes that I own. Nevertheless, I like the color and the quality of this shadow, hence I am not disappointed. Read on further to know about this product.

My Take on ELF Custom Driftwood Eyeshadow:

Packaging: It comes in the usual packaging of a refill shadow pan – the shadow comes in a circular, 2 mm deep pan which can be added to an empty palette to make a custom palette. Nothing further to add except that I liked the way it was packed before it was shipped – kept the pan and shadow safe.

Texture: It is a powder eyeshadow set in a cake form and although it is smooth and soft to apply, it does have a considerable amount of fallout and this is something that I have experienced with other ELF eyeshadows as well and it’s not so much about the mess that I am concerned about, but rather the mess it makes in my palette and on my dresser. I try to use it with a damp brush because it reduces fall out and increases the intensity of this eyeshadow.

Color: I am not sure what driftwood looks like, but this color is definitely like that of a dark tree bark – a mix of cinnamon with dark wine or black hints. I would not wear this on my entire lid, just in my crease to add definition to my eyes.

Pigmentation: It requires multiple swipes for the color to show when used on a dry form and a couple of swipes when applied with a damp brush. Overall, the pigmentation is satisfactory for an eyeshadow that’s priced so low; however, I don’t reach out for it often because I have better alternatives.

Staying Power: 5-6 hours after which it starts to crease. You can increase the wear time if you use a primer or a white eyeshadow underneath.

This is a good product considering the price, but not as good as the other shadows in the range. I bought nearly nine shadow pans to make my own custom palette – most of them are good but this one was just a ‘meh’ product. ELF also sells empty palettes to which one can add eyeshadow pans of their own choice, but I bought a better and cheaper one from another site.

Pros of ELF Custom Driftwood Eyeshadow:

  • Standard aluminum pan which is perfect for making your own custom eyeshadow palette.
  • Standard shade for crease and good for eye definition.
  • Available in 11 different shades.
  • No fragrance.
  • Good pigmentation if used with a damp brush.
  • Stays on for a decent amount of time.
  • Shades are good and cover the entire spectrum.
  • Affordable and in less than 10 bucks one can make an entire custom palette.

Cons of ELF Custom Driftwood Eyeshadow:

  • Not available in stores and have to order it online.
  • Lot of fallout.
  • Dry application does not give good pigmentation.

Would I Repurchase ELF Custom Driftwood Eyeshadow?

No, because it will last me a long time and I didn’t like the quality of this particular shade, but I recommend it to all those who don’t have this particular shade or just want to try out something new.

  1. Love the shade. I have eyeshadow pellets from elf and experienced all the above said problems. Anyway they are good for beginners as the price is so low.
