ELF Pressed Powder Review

Hello everyone,

As you all might know, ELF is a brand which has its equal share of hits and misses.  It’s always better to read some reviews before buying any ELF product. I recently got some ELF products at 50% off sale, which includes some raved about products and some random products that I haven’t tried. One such product is the ELF Studio Pressed Powder.  Let’s find out whether it was a hit or miss for me.

My Experience with ELF Pressed Powder:

I have had good luck with products from ELF studio line. I wanted to try their translucent powder for a long time. When I ordered the translucent powder, I ordered the pressed powder as well from the studio line to try.

This powder comes in a black case with product in the top compartment and a separate compartment at the bottom for sponge. It also comes with a small mirror. There is a small window on the top to see the product.

This pressed powder has a total of 6 shades and I have it in “Caramel.” The shade was a good match for my NC42 skin tone. The 6 shades cover good range of skin tones, one can surely find their close match from the range.

When I first touched the product, I was surprised to see how smooth the texture was.  It was a very finely milled powder with very smooth texture. The moment I ran my finger on the product, lots of product got transferred to my finger.  When I swirled the powder brush over the product, it generated lots of fall out.  I guess the powder is not tightly pressed or it’s due to the high talc content in it.  The powder does not have any fragrance.

I was able to use it over moisturized face using sponge and as a setting powder using powder brush. Using a brush gives a light application and the sponge gives heavier and full coverage, but if not applied carefully with sponge, it might look cakey.

In the product description, they have mentioned to use it wet for fuller coverage. I never want to use my powder wet. Instead, I will have the foundation take care of coverage.  I have normal to combination skin and this powder does keep my t-zone matte for several hours. Also, it stays on for 4-5 hours before it completely wears off.  I am quite happy with the staying power.

Cons of ELF Pressed Powder:

  • The main ingredient is talc, which can cause lung irritation.
  • Has a lot of fallout when you use it with brush.

Final Word:

Though I use high-end makeup, it’s sheer pleasure to discover a drugstore product that works well. This product definitely serves the purpose of a pressed powder. Overall, I am quite happy with the quality of this product except for the fallout part.
