ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal

ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal

Hello IMBBians!

ELF is a brand full of hits & misses, more hits than misses though which makes me wish that this brand was available in India easily. Not only do they have a wide range of amazing products but also they use good ingredients and are very inexpensive plus they do not test on animals. I love ELF more also because I had won $500 gift card once during a contest 😀 . Given ELF’s low prices, for $500 I have tried pretty much their entire range! I have many favourites & “oh-God-no’s!” from ELF, today I talk about a favourite here, their Pigment Eyeshadow in Tropical Teal.

My experience with ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal:

Color & Texture:

This is a true medium teal. A very beautiful color that is very easy to pull off. I love pigment style of eyeshades because it is very easy to control the color intensity, applied sheerly it gives a soft wash of color & if packed on generously the look can be intensified; similarly it can be used wet or dry too and this is a very good quality pigment. The color that you see in the pan is what you get on the eyes. It is a pearlescent shade; the camera doesn’t fully capture that effect though. But on the eyes it looks amazing. Just a swipe gives you enough color to apply all over the lids. Blending this color out is also very easy; the pearl nature of the shade makes it very blendable. You don’t a need a primer under this to get its full effect but for more intense application a primer helps with any shade. When applied wet, the metallic nature of this shade stands out beautifully. This is also one of those shades that can be used on its own for a complete look– just pack it on the lid with a dense/flat brush and use a fluffy brush to blend it out in the crease. It will look as if you have used multiple colors to create the effect which is due to the fact that the color can be sheered out very well.

Packaging:

Now, this is the only major con with this product! It comes with a brush that I have long back discarded as it’s was very tiny & had nothing special about it. The outside packaging is decent, comes in a see-though plastic tub with a black screw-on top. And has a sifter inside it to hold the pigment in place. I don’t know what the issue is with ELF when it comes to their sifters, either the holes are too big, making the product fly away everywhere (as in the case of their Mineral Booster)or the holes are so tiny that barely any product gets out. Latter is the case with this particular pigment. No matter how much you shake it, very little product is dispensed. If you need a sheer wash or need to apply it only below the lower line or anywhere you don’t need much product then this is fine but for a typical use it is never enough. I always end up removing the sifter, which is not very easy anyways because we have to be extra cautious when dealing with loose pigments. This bothers me every time I use it.

Staying Power:

No cons here, it stays on till the end of the day. There is no major fading or creasing that would at all noticeable. A primer is not needed for every use but if you want extended wear and want the pigment to be even more intense than it never hurts to add a primer under it.

Pros of ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal

• A beautiful, wearable teal color.
• Very well pigmented – you can pack it on for an intense look.
• Very blend-able – you can sheer it out for just a hint of color.
• Shows up truly with or without a primer.
• Stays on till you want to remove the color (on my normal lids, without primer, oily lids can use primer to increase staying power).
• No major fall out, even for a pigment.
• Although it is a shimmery color, it does not have chunks of shimmer in it.
• The effect of its metallic shimmer is beautiful & when used wet it, even more so
• Inexpensive.

Cons of ELF Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal

• Non-availability of ELF products in India.
• The sifter is a pain to work with.
• As with any pigment eyeshadow, care needs to be taken when taking it from the pan for fear of fall-out or product wastage.

IMBB Rating:

4/5 – If the sifter was easy to use, it would deserve full points, but for such a low price a perfect packaging might be too much ask.

Will I repurchase/ Do I recommend elf Studio Pigment Eyeshadow – Tropical Teal?

Well, I have been using this for over 2 years now and there’s hardly a dent in the product so I don’t think I need to repurchase this. I do want to try all colors in this range for sure because you can’t beat this price point but then again buying ELF products is not very easy in India. I do recommend it to those who can get it easily. Teal nowadays is not a rare color to find so I’m sure you can find such a color locally with ease.

I hope this helped and until next time – Happy Makeuping!
