I’m all ready to review an eye pencil that I bought recently, out of curiosity. I like grey pencils but I don’t see them a lot so I grabbed this one instantly. Let’s see how it performed.

My experience with Essence Stays No Matter What Waterproof Eye Pencil in Smokey Grey:

I love hoarding lip balms, lipsticks and eye pencils. They’re like all over the place and I keep misplacing them too. 😛 So I have kind of lost my “Eyeconic” grey one so it was a good reason to buy this. A week after I got this I found it in one of my bags! This keeps happening with lip balms a lot 😛 So moving on, the eye pencil claims to be completely water-proof and it’ll stay no matter what. It is more or less true.

The pencil is a dark grey in colour, made out of plastic. It can be sharpened as it finishes. The cap isn’t flimsy at all and fits comfortably. It is easy to carry around too, making it travel friendly.Smokey grey eye pencil is a grayish-black one without any blue undertones. So it is almost a black but muted.

The claims say that he texture is soft and creamy but in reality I found it to be contradicting. It isn’t creamy at all; it tugs a lot during application and feels rubbery. As you can see in the swatch, chunks of the product are left which is the result of the rubbery texture. It doesn’t glides well and application becomes tricky. The pigmentation and color pay-off is just alright, neither too low not great. A single swipe wouldn’t suffice. It works okay on the lids but didn’t quite show on the waterline.

Like it claims, it is completely water-proof and also smudge proof to a good extent; except for the chunks get rubbed off. My problem with this is, it starts to flake after about 2 hours or so and it looks awkward. Removing it isn’t that much of a task either. It comes off with a good make-up remover or even any oil for that matter. It lasts graciously for about 6 hours even when my lids get all oily. I would love this more only if it didn’t flake and the texture was smoother. Alas!

• Texture is rubbery and not at all creamy.
• Tugs during application.
• Doesn’t show on waterline.
• Starts to flake.
• Color payoff could have been way better.
