Estee Lauder 03 Cyber Lilac Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow Review

Hello Ladies,

Seeing that luxury brands like Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown are now available online feels extremely good. I do wish that Sephora itself would have the online shopping option in India, just like in the US, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. It’s an absolute travesty that females in non-metro cities cannot access the brands which are available in India. Still, these 2 brands have taken a huge step forward. So, I will try my best to review products with me from these brands first so as to help you with your purchasing. Today’s review is on another eyeshadow from Estee Lauder, again from their Pure Colour Gelee Eyeshadow formula. The shade is 03 Cyber Lilac in their Cyber Metallic finish. This is one of the fast-moving shades. Let us see how this one works.

Price: USD 24/INR 2300
Quantity: Less than 1gm (0.85gms)
which is less than half of a regular MAC or MUG eyeshadow? It might have something to do with the formula – the Gelee formula seems very lightweight as compared to other powder eyeshadows in the market.

My Experience with Estee Lauder 03 Cyber Lilac Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow:

I have had these Estee Lauder shadows for a while. But, I was able to really enjoy them now when I actually started playing with eye makeup. However, when creating the looks for the purpose of the review and to showcase the shad, I have tried to use only Estee Lauder eyeshadows. I have not incorporated shades from any other brands, not even as the crease shade, highlighter etc.

Estee Lauder eyeshadows come in 2 variants – Pure Colour and Pure Colour Gelee. This one here is from the Gelee formula. Even within this Gelee Formula, there are 2 variants: the Cyber Metallic and the Vivid Shine range. The shade Fire Sapphire was from the Vivid Shine range. Whereas, this one is from the Cyber Metallic range. As per Estee Lauder – the gelee formula is a “tri-blend formula that’s a gel, powder, and liquid eye shadow in one.”

Shade:
This is one of the most popular shades from the brand. If you look at the shade, you will understand why. It’s a beautiful cool toned violet with a duo chrome effect which gives it a silver shift. For someone who loves violet/lilac, this would go into the must-have category. The shade can be used dry or wet. There is no change in colour when used wet. The only things that alters are the intensity and shine of the shade. When used wet, the shine definitely intensifies.

Texture:
The texture of the shadow is fairly soft and smooth. It does not kick up any powder at all. It almost feels creamy that way. I did not experience much fall out with this shade – definitely not as much as I did with Fire Sapphire (reviewed earlier). I would advise you to use a synthetic flat shader brush for this product.

Again, reiterating, when I say you can use it wet please do not wet the shadow. You will end up spoiling it. Instead, take the dry shadow on your brush and spritz it with a fixing spray or a face mist and then apply it onto your eyes.

It is quite a metallic shade but it does not emphasise the texture of my lids when used dry; I am on the wrong side of 30! When used wet, it reminds me of the Natasha Denona shimmer shadows – you get the intensity of the shine, but also texture on your skin. Something to remember for females over 30: it is easy to work with and blend out fairly effortlessly.

The weird thing about the texture is that the eyeshadow cake just plops out of the shadow pan! I don’t know what’s with it – reminds me of Dior cream shadows which do the same thing – the whole cake just falls out of the pan. Since I house these in a dual sided MAC Magnetic palette, it is a pain for me to remember to open the correct side up to ensure it doesn’t fall out and break. This is a concern with all the shades in the Gelee formulation. I think I have to move these to a smaller single-sided empty palette else I will just end up breaking the whole cake.

Pigmentation:
This one has good pigmentation unlike Fire Sapphire. Even when used dry, I do not need to put effort to build up the shade to get its true intensity. When used wet, it gives you full on pigmentation, anyway.

Staying power:
I apply my eyeshadows over a primer because my lids are way too oily. Without a primer, anything and everything turns to mush within a couple of hours. When used dry (over an eye primer), the shade stays put for about 6-7 hours or so before it starts fading. When used wet, the longevity gets increased to about 9 hours plus.

In the EOTD, I have used this shade in the inner half of the lid. The outer half and the crease have a different shade on them. Will review those shades soon.

This shade is quite stunning and I am a sucker for purples. Also, considering how easy it is to blend, these gelee formulations are a pleasure to work with. I definitely recommend this shade! It’s gorgeous!!
