Estee Lauder #150 Decadent Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick Review

Hello Gorgeous Gals!

And yet another Envy Lipstick!! I hope you guys aren’t fed up of them by now. I know I’m not. This shade was a throwback to the 90s when browns – cocoa and coffee bean shades ruled the roost. I still remember a couple of stunning pics of Aishwarya Rai – close to her winning the Miss World title in brown lipsticks. I was so inspired by the trend that I was perpetually to be seen in this coffee bean Lakme lipstick, I think I repurchased it twice after finishing it. It was around this time that I was undergoing my training in the Taj Goa and wearing bright lipsticks was out of question any way. It was only after my boyfriend (then boyfriend, now husband) dropped subtle hints that the colour really wasn’t working for me that I finally bought some brighter shades and let go of the gothic shade. Anyway, that was ages ago.  Let’s find out more about this shade from Envy.

My Experience with Estee Lauder #150 Decadent Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick:

Color:  Described as a “deep rich red-brown,” it’s a warm-toned brown with enough red it in that it doesn’t look very gothic. The shade which I used to wear was almost coffee bean brown. This on the other hand is much more lustrous. The mix of red in the brown makes it more easily wearable than a coffee bean brown. However, this is not a shade which would appeal to everyone. It’s still fairly gothic and deep. I am not sure whether I am able to carry off this color myself.  I know, I definitely don’t reach for it often.

Texture:  The texture is consistent across the lines, at least all the shades I have tried so far – right from easy to wear pinks like Powerful and Infamous to bright shades like Impassioned and Defiant Coral to really deep shades like Red Ego and Emotional. The texture is lightweight, creamy, glides easily on the lips and hugs them with color.  Even with this intense a shade, there was no bleeding or feathering. I found it hydrating and very comfortable to wear.

Pigmentation:  Excellent pigmentation as with all the previous ones reviewed, 100% color deposit in a single swipe. Love the saturated bold colour as you swipe the lipstick on.  You can make out the richness of the pigmentation from the arm swatch.

Lasting Power:  The company claims 6 hours of full coverage. This one, despite being a deep shade, gave me about 5.5 hours of wear time, which falls slightly short of the company’s claim.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Estee Lauder #150 Decadent Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick:

  • Unique shade – rich deep brown-red!
  • Sculpts the lips with insane pigmentation.
  • Easy to apply from the tube.
  • Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips.
  • Feels hydrating.
  • The colour hugs the lips nicely, no feathering or bleeding despite the bright colour.
  • Hides lip pigmentation well.
  • Luxe and classy feel to the tube and case!
  • Vanilla fragrance.

Cons of Estee Lauder #150 Decadent Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick:

  • Ease of availability across India.
  • Fell a little short of the company’s claim of 6 hours of wear time. This was surprising considering the depth and darkness of the shade.

This is not my most favorite shade from the line because I am not very sure it suits me. I feel I am not able to carry off the color too well.  Now, you may wonder how is it that the lipstick is half consumed, if I don’t use it that often…? Well, here’s the story. I bought some stuff from EL and half way through the picture taking (for the reviews), my camera battery died. So I left my stuff in the bag, in the corner – safely, or so I thought; found 2 of my lipsticks, this one and another from the Pure Color original line, being used as crayons – again. God bless my little one – he IS persistent!

    1. Its not funny Jomol! 🙁 I just realised that there is a third spoilt lippy as well! He twisted it without opening the cap. its stuck inside the cap now!!

  1. Hey kk, i really like reading the anecdotes and stories behind the products. The color might not be one of your favourite, but it definitely suits you well. I too am not a fan of browns and purples, but this is the most wearable brown can get.

    1. Thanks Jyoti! Im glad you enjoyed the review! I enjoy writing more when there are bits n pieces of me in it rather than just a review! Thanks for your sweet words!

    1. Cho chweet! Im glad you aren’t tired of reading about the Envy lippies! And Rebellious Rose…thats the most beautiful shade from this entire line! Its so unique and so flattering!

  2. This is so 90s K but such a lovely one! :)) and looking at the lipstick it looks like such a well loved one… not by you though. haha!! i liked it on you. and you did gorgeous makeup with this one! 🙂

    1. Its still not funny Rati – I think it’ll be a couple of months before I am able to laugh at this lipstick massacre!! Can I be honest? I actually didn’t do a collective FOTD. I was testing 3 products – the lippy, the blush and the eye pencil. And I applied all 3 and honestly, I kind of thought it looked mismatched! But, good to know that it finally gelled together! LOL!

    1. Im not surprised! I forgot to share another incident. When I applied this lippy an came out – the first reaction from my 5year old was – “Ye mani wala colour kyo lagaya hai! Utaro ise! Wear Red!” LOL!! I bet my mom will like this too!

  3. Oh, I pooh-pooh anyone that doesn’t appreciate the beauty of a robust chocolate lippie. It needs the right (tiny) amount of berry to keep it from looking dirty but once you’ve got a shade that suits you, it can make you look so polished and chic.
Bring back the 90s and give me a matte cocoa any day! I think this shade is smashing, Kulpreet!
