Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush #25 Review

Hello gorgeous ladies,

I have today for you another Estee Lauder brush review – this time, one of their eye brushes. This one was designed by their Creative Head, Tom Pecheux, the one man who breathed life into the Estee Lauder makeup line and changed the face of it.
Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush

Product Details (From the Website):
Long, tapered brush expertly blends and softens shadow from outside to inside corner for a seamless, polished look. All Estee Lauder brushes are composed of the finest quality materials and are designed to ensure the highest level of makeup artistry.  This long, tapered brush is designed for the expert blending and softening of eyeshadow to give you a seamless, polished look. It’s made of the finest-quality materials and is precision-trimmed with meticulous care. It features a short, lightweight wooden handle to allow for even, effortless application.

Pro tips: Estée Lauder recommends cleaning your brush once per week. Simply dampen it then apply a brush cleanser, using your fingers to work into a lather. Rinse well, then blot excess water with a paper towel to reshape the brush.

Price:
US $32/INR 2500

Packaging:
The brush comes packaged in a typical Estee Lauder deep navy blue cardboard box. I do appreciate the effort put in by the brand to sell the product in a hygienic manner.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush #25:

Which is the one brush which heads the recommendation list of eye brushes for anyone starting their collection – yes, it’s the MAC 217. After using MAC 217 for some time, I felt the need to pick up another 217. However, it was sold out in MAC and anyone who is a MAC loyalist knows how long it can take for stuff to get re-stocked at MAC!
Bristles

I went browsing at Estee Lauder. There, I met a friend who suggested that I check this brush instead – the Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush #25. Since I trust her recommendation, I decided to give this one a shot.

The first thing that hits you when you see the brush is how small it is. The brush length is distinctly smaller than a regular brush. This can be both a pro and a con, depending on your makeup application. Ideally, the blending brush should be held as far away from the ferrule as possible to ensure that the blending happens in soft strokes, giving a more even look. So, you do need a certain length of the brush. The brush is short but not travel size short. So, it’s not inconvenient to use. For girls like me who can barely see themselves in the reflection, without a 5X mirror, a shorter brush actually helps as you can get real close to the mirror.

The brush has a wooden handle with a golden ferrule, it’s lightweight but balanced. The shape is pretty identical to MAC #217, it’s flat but fluffy with a slight dome. If you see the side view, you can identify that MAC 217 is a bit more thicker.
MAC and Estee Lauder brushes

The obvious difference between this brush and the MAC one is also that the MAC one has white goat bristles. I’m not sure what bristles this one has, but it’s definitely natural and extremely soft.
MAC brush

Like the MAC 217, this works very well for:

  • Blending in the crease area and above it – to get a smooth gradient.
  • Application of the color – the natural bristles pick the product well and give no fall out.
  • Since it is thinner than the MAC brush, it allows for more controlled application of color.
  • Can be used to highlight the brow bone.
  • Blends the shadows really well.

Again, this is a fairly old brush now, about 1.5 years or a bit more. There has been no shedding or bleeding while washing or during application.  The brush is an investment, you have to take care of it. Natural hair brushes need to be handled with care. Do not wash too frequently.

For me, this one works way better than the MAC 217, since it softer, has a smaller handle, and is less fluffy.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush #25:

  • Lightweight.
  • Works well for controlled application of eyeshadow powder.
  • Blends the eyeshadows really well.
  • Can be used for application of highlighter on the brow bone.
  • Does not shed.
  • Excellent with picking up the product and dispersing it.
  • Bristles are really really soft.

Cons of Estee Lauder Blending Shadow Brush #25:

  • Can’t think of any!

IMBB Rating:
5/5

I am so glad my friend suggested that I pick this up. When I want a new brush of this shape, to add to my collection, I am bound to pick up this one rather than the #217.
