After reviewing Cyber Ruby from the Pure Colour Gelee range, I thought I would go ahead and review the shade I love pairing with it. So, this review is on the shade “Amethyst Spark.” This is from the Pure Colour range of eyeshadows. The Pure Colour range again has 4 variants – Matte, Shimmer, Metallic and Satin. The shade – Amethyst Spark is a shimmer shadow. Let us see how this one performs…

My Experience with Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow 09 Amethyst Spark Shimmer:

Shade:  The shade “Amethyst Spark” is a medium dirty lavender purple. It is not the kind of colour which I would normally gravitate towards, but for some reason, I love using this in the crease, blended upwards and outwards and Cyber Ruby all over my lid. It does not give the purple bruise look either. It feels like a nice shade to use – it’s a departure from the usual neutral browns, but the muted quality of it does not make it too bright or obvious, so it’s easy to carry off. Even though this is a shimmer shade – the shimmer particles are way too fine and far between. They don’t seem to translate onto the skin. So, in effect, it feels quite like a satin finish itself.

In both Look 1 and Look 2, I have used this in the crease. No other shade has been used for transition.

Texture:  The texture is quite soft, smooth and feels a lot like their Pure color blush texture. It goes on smoothly and does not kick up much dust. It blends out fairly easily, just like their blushes. However, I feel it sheers out very quickly too. While this would be a great trait in a blush, it doesn’t always work for an eyeshadow, especially when you want to build the colour. The way I have been using it – blended out into the crease – as a crease shade which transitions into the brow bone area, the fact that it sheers out while blending suits me perfectly.

Pigmentation: As I have mentioned while discussing texture, the shade has decent pigmentation, but tends to sheer out while blending. It is easy to pack it on also but if the shade was to be applied onto the lid, once you are through blending, you will need to go in again and build it up.

Staying Power:  I apply my eyeshadows over a primer because my lids are way too oily. The shade gave about 7 hours of wear time before showing signs of fading.

Pros of Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow 09 Amethyst Spark Shimmer:

• An interesting dirty lavender shade, I can’t think of an exact dupe of this in my stash.
• Very soft and smooth to touch.
• Decent pigmentation.
• Decent wear time.
• No creasing.
• Blends out easily.
• It does not emphasise texture of my skin.
• Had no fallout.

Cons of Estee Lauder Pure Color Eyeshadow 09 Amethyst Spark Shimmer:

• It is supposed to be a shimmer shade but doesn’t have much shimmer in it.
• The shade tends to sheer out too easily.

This is one shade from the Pure shadow range that I really like and enjoy. The dip in the pan says it all – doesn’t it? In terms of quality, it definitely isn’t the best out there, but the shade itself feels fairly unique. If you can get the same shade in a better formula, I would say go for that because at this price-point, it isn’t fair to spend so much and still compromise on quality.
