Estee Lauder Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow 17 Cyber Ruby – Cyber Metallic Review

Hello ladies,

In continuation with my Estee Lauder series, today’s review is on another shade of eyeshadow from EL’s Pure Colour Gelee formula. As mentioned in my previous reviews of “Cyber Lilac” and “Fire Sapphire,” the EL eyeshadows come in 2 formulas – the Pure Colour and the Pure Colour Gelee. The Gelee formula further has metallic and shine variants. While Fire Sapphire was from the Shine collection – Cyber Lilac and Cyber Ruby are from their Metallic collection. The Gelee formula is unique in the aspect that it can be used wet or dry. Let us see how this “Cyber Ruby” fared.

Product Description:
What it is: A tri-blend formula that’s a gel, powder, and liquid eye shadow in one. Flaunt a multi-dimensional eye look with this long-wearing, techno shadow that’s velvety smooth and crease-free. Fade-resistant and easily blendable, this formula has a soft-touch shadow texture and its sponge-tip applicator makes it easy to sweep up and apply color in one stroke. This three-in-one makeup is infused with True Vision technology to ensure that lids get the highest chromatic shine.

Price:
USD 24/INR 2300 – available in stores/ Sephora India/online. Quantity – Less than 1 gm = 0.85 gm, which is less than half of a regular MAC or MUG eyeshadow. It might have something to do with the formula – the Gelee formula seems very lightweight as compared to other powder eyeshadows in the market.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow 17 Cyber Ruby – Cyber Metallic:

This was the first ever shade of eyeshadow that I tried from Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder has this 3-minute beauty concept wherein their specialist will help you achieve any one aspect of a look – like bold lips, winged liner, etc, etc – in 3 minutes. Does it actually take only 3 minutes? Debatable! But let’s not get into that. Back to the eyeshadow, this was used by the EL specialist on me for a winged look; I kind of liked the effect. So, let us find out how it performs.

Shade:  The shade “Cyber Ruby” is a gorgeous medium plum. I find this the right intensity of shade for such a colour because anything darker would probably look like a bruise on our medium skin whereas this one, I feel looks quite lovely, especially for fall. When used dry, it has a beautiful sheen – no shimmer, no glitter particles – it looks slightly muted. Used wet, the “metallic-ness” becomes more evident.

In Look 1, I have used the shade dry.

In Look 2, I have used it dry on the entire lid and used it wet right in the centre of the lid for the extra pop.

Texture:  As per Estee Lauder – the Gelee formula is a “tri-blend formula that’s a gel, powder, and liquid eye shadow in one.” The texture of the shadow is soft, smooth, almost creamy to touch. It does not kick up any powder at all. I did not experience much fall out with this shade – definitely not as much as I did with the Fire Sapphire variant. I would advice you to use a synthetic flat shader brush for applying it and then using a blending brush to diffuse the edges.

When used dry, it works well and there is a bit of muteness to it. When used wet, there is added pop for sure, but it also highlights any texture of your skin – quite like the Natasha Denona shimmer shadows. It is easy to work with and blend out fairly effortlessly.

The weird thing about the texture is that the eyeshadow cake just plops out of the shadow pan! I don’t know what’s with it – reminds me of Dior cream shadows which do the same thing – the whole cake just falls out of the pan.

Pigmentation:  This one has excellent pigmentation – used wet or dry. It is pretty much my favourite shade in the lot (along with Cyber Lilac). Even when used dry, I did not need to put effort to build up the shade to get its true intensity. When used wet, it gives you full on pigmentation anyway.

Staying Power:  I apply my eyeshadows over a primer because my lids are way too oily. When used dry, (over an eye primer), the shade stays put for about 6-7 hours or so before it starts to fade. When used wet, the longevity was increased to about 9 hours plus.

Pros of Estee Lauder Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow 17 Cyber Ruby – Cyber Metallic:

  • Gorgeous and extremely trendy fall shade.
  • Beautiful metallic sheen.
  • Does not feel dry or gritty.
  • Can be used wet or dry.
  • Excellent pigmentation when used wet or dry.
  • Decent wear time.
  • No creasing.
  • Blends out easily.
  • It does not emphasize texture of my skin (unless used wet).

Cons of Estee Lauder Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow 17 Cyber Ruby – Cyber Metallic:

  • Emphasizes texture of skin when used wet.
  • The eyeshadow cake just plops outside of the pan and crumbles easily. You cannot travel with this for sure!

IMBB Rating:
4.8/5
As I have mentioned earlier, this is by far my most favourite shade in the lot. And for some reason, I love pairing it with this dirty purple shade – also from Estee Lauder. I have shared 2 #LOTDs with you – and they might actually look the same to you at one glance because two of the main shades are the same – Cyber Ruby and Amethyst Spark (review coming up soon). I don’t know why, but I just love this combination. The only difference in both the looks is probably the accent shade – in Look 1, I have used silver white accents in the inner corner.

While in Look 2, I have used golden accents. Also, in Look 2, I have used Cyber Ruby wet on the centre of the lid. This would give you an idea of the shift in intensity of the shade once applied wet.
