Reading through that article, I realised that I knew about a few more and so I wanted to write about them and let you how versatile and colourful the Saree industry is in India. Let’s find out about these sarees.

Mysore Silk Saree

These sarees are manufactured by Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation. They are lightweight sarees as compared to Kanchipuram Sarees which are a little on the heavier side. Mysore silk sarees have heavy borders in contrasting and vibrant shades. The rest of the saree is kept mostly plain with bold and vibrant borders.

Assam Silk Saree

Assam silk is one of the best silks that we get in India. We can get muga silk, pat silk and eri silk sarees here from Assam. However muga silk is really known for its glossy fine texture and durability. These silk sarees have delicate weaving style as well as the thread work. This silk can be hand washed too and can be worn year after year with that same sheen and texture.

Sambalpuri Saree

This saree is originated from a small town Sambalpur in Orissa. These sarees are heavily designed and filled with motifs and traditional patterns like flowers, wheels and shells. These are warp tie-dyed before the weaving starts.

Bafta

This saree is originated from Madhya Pradesh and is the amalgamation of cotton and silk. These sarees have block prints in intricate designs and patterns. As these sarees have cotton and silk mixed, they are really comfortable to wear and have the shine of a silk.

Murshidabad Saree

This saree has a lot of textures and comes from West Bengal. These sarees have a glossy and lustrous texture, and have delicate Bengali tribal patterns all over them.

Kota Doria Saree

These sarees originate from Rajasthan and are perfect for hot and humid climate there. These sarees are very lightweight and airy. These sarees come in variety of colourful shades and patterns.

Pochampalli Saree

These cotton and silk sarees have very unique border designs and are ideal for daily wear. They have earthy colours and metrical block prints. Motifs of flowers, animals and diamonds are quite popular and common in these sarees.

Mundum Neriyathum

These sarees originate from Kerala and are white-cream with gold borders. The gold border has rich and very intricate detailing. This saree is made in cotton and very comfortable to wear. This saree comes in 2 pieces – mundum is used on the bottom half of the saree, and neriyathum is the pallu that is draped around the upper half.
