Eyebrow Tips and Tricks that will Change Your Life

I am back with yet another post and this time the theme is eyebrows. An eyebrow as we all know, is a patch of thick yet delicate hair above the eye. We know that the eyebrow plays a very significant role in changing the way our face looks. They are very crucial for face recognition and give us an edge too. Fun Fact: Did you know our brows are every often controlled by our voice and help us express emotions better. 🙂

We often end up spending way too much time and money for their maintenance. We should always get expert help on shaping them as shaping them can either make or break your overall facial appearance. All the time and effort spent on them is worth it once you get those perfectly shaped eyebrows. Never underestimate the role your eyebrows play in defining your look. You can find a dearth of examples online- take our Bollywood divas for instance 🙂 . In my post today I am going to talk about a few hacks which will help you attain excellence when it comes to eyebrow shaping. Let’s begin with:

shape eyebrows with tweezers

1. Finding the Right Eyebrow Shape for your Face
As we know, the shape of our face is categorized into 6 types basically: Oval, Long, Round, Square, Heart and Diamond. Depending on them, we should try and find the shape which suits our face best.

2. The Golden Ratio
Always wondered, how to get that eyebrow arch for a perfect eyebrow. Simple, just follow the golden ratio rule. Start with aligning a pencil from the side of your nose to the tip of your inner eye. The point where the pencil is aligned straight, is where your brow should begin. Next, slant that pencil a bit from the side of your nose to align it with your iris. This is where your arch should be. Finally, align the pencil from the side of your nose in such a way that it meets the outer corner of your eye. This is where your eyebrow should end. Simple enough right?

3. Fret Not When Both the Brows Do Not Match Exactly
Like someone once said, “Eyebrows are not twin sisters and they do not have to look exactly alike”. Let them be closest to their natural shape. Just try and make the basic dimensions similar. While trying to make them look symmetrical, you might end up over plucking them.

4. Choosing the Right Shade for your Brow
When trying to fill up your brow always choose a shade which matches your hair colour the closest or a shade lighter (Needless to mention which colour you should choose, if you have highlights or a salt and pepper look). Always remember to blend out your brow a little after defining or drawing them else they might end up looking fake.

5. Do not Stand too close to the Mirror
While doing our brows, most of us tend to stand too close to the mirror to get a better look. This is a strict no-no. You might end up not getting the desired results. Stand at least a foot away from the mirror and that will give you a better perspective.

6. Give Importance to Your Arch
When filling in or defining your brows, always use the most pigment intensity on your arch. This a great way to give an illusion of lifted eyebrows and make you look more youthful.

7. Highlighter Helps
Draw a line with your highlighter under your brow bone and blend it with your finger. Trust me a highlighter will make your brow from good to great within seconds. It adds for definition to your brows and highlights the arch.

8. Finally, a Brow Serum
We all know how expensive brow serums are. Why don’t we use the good old castor oil instead? We are already well versed with the benefits of the magic oil in hair growth. Go ahead and make your own brow serum at home. All you need is an empty and clean mascara bottle, a small funnel and castor oil (you can go ahead and add other nourishing oils like, almond, vitamin E and Coconut oil as well). Use the mascara wand to apply this serum to your brow and eyelashes for healthy and luscious thick brows and lashes.

We know not everyone is blessed with an awesome pair of eyebrows like Deepika Padukone and Rati ;), and once in a while we all have our “bad eyebrow days”. The technique shown above will be your saviour in such times of despair and help us get those perfect, miraculous brows. 🙂

  1. I love reading your posts Rakhi. My eyebrows never match and I am always fretting about it. This lady who does my threading is getting on my nerves now. But, I am surely going to try Castor Oil for my brows and lashes now.

    1. Thanks again Dahling 😀 you are such a sweetheart…Same here Shikha, my eyebrows differ as well but I never really bothered much.. cause well kept eyebrows are more attractive that slightly differing ones 🙂

  2. I’ve stopped going to parlour for threading my brows and now do them myself. This post is well done. Thanks for these tips Rakhi 😀

    1. Wow Jasmine, you are a rockstar.. I had tried doing my eyebrows once in my college days and couldn’t stand the pain. I confess i was very naive then. that experience still scares the monkeys out of me 😛

    1. Thanks Bhavs yet again.. there are so many eyebrow pencils available in the market. Our evergreen lakme. Jomol has a write up “Best Eyebrow Pencils available in India”.It’s very detailed. I tried Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil and Essence eyebrow designer pencil. Pencils which come with a grooming brush are an added advantage. If you are ever short of your pencil, do not panic, you can always use your good old eye shadow palate. make sure they have a matt effect and are not shimmery.. choose a color close to your brow hair color and you are all set.. trust me it works wonders as well. 😀
