Fab India Papaya Face Pack Review

So I got the shock of my life when I hit the FabIndia stores (I went to the one at South City Mall, Kolkata) couple of months ago and heard that the FabIndia Coral Glow face pack has been discontinued. I felt like turning around and leaving then and there! However, the SA said, “we have some very good face packs now and they are worth a try” and showed me the Fab India papaya face pack. So although I was disappointed the word papaya rang a bell since I am extremely happy with my HG Biotique papaya scrub. Expecting similar results from another product I went ahead and bought this.

Price: Rs 175

Use of Papaya in Beauty Therapies:

papaya

A website says: “This fruit contains the enzyme papain, which has wonderful exfoliating properties – removing dead skin, and specifically damaged skin. This particular property of papaya has extensively been used in medical conditions to protect the skin from abnormal skin growth and skin diseases. Another use of the papaya juice is to help reduce and attenuate freckles or brown spots due to exposure to sunlight, smoothing the skin and creating a healthier looking skin. All of the positive effects listed above are attributed to the enzymatic action of the papain.”

There are multiple uses of papaya that can be found by surfing various sites on the internet, some are:

Skin with enlarged pores: Wash or compress with diluted papaya vinegar.
Rough Skin: Native Americans rub rough skin with the fleshy side of the skin from a ripe papaya.
Unclear skin: For deep skin cleansing, apply a papaya mask followed by an application of papaya vinegar weekly, diluted with water.
Hardened Skin: Repeatedly apply squeezed leaves or the fleshy side of the skin from a green papaya.
Sunspots: Apply fleshy side of the skin from a green papaya to the spots
Wrinkles: Using a papaya face mask to reduce old dead skin cells and to make the skin smoother.

My take on the Fab India Papaya Face Pack:
The product is very creamy and glides on face almost like a thick cream. It gives a slight tingling sensation after some time of applying. I actually became hopeful with this sensation since I thought it was “working”. Frankly I didn’t expect wonders but just a glow and freshness (like one I get from the Biotique Fruit Pack or Biotique Clove and Turmeric Pack). The Papaya pack dries after about 15 minutes. It looks like a multani mitti pack and has a mild smell which I don’t think is of Papaya :D

Results: Well, I am pretty disappointed with this product. It did nothing. Didn’t make my skin very fresh or give me a glow. And even I found my skin to break out after using this. My skin type is oily and quite sensitive to creams and lotions but so far no pack has broken me out. Save this one the pack gave me a clean look but the effect was replaced with oiliness within an hour. And to talk about skin firming- Well I don’t have crow’s feet/sagging skin/open pores but I have found some packs and peel off masks to give me a tightening effect that makes my skin look very supple. From that experience I can say this papaya pack is certainly not a product for skin firming. However, I don’t know if it might show its effect on matured skin; my mom didn’t let me experiment with this pack on her.
Thus Overall:
Pros of Fab India Papaya Face Pack :
1) Comes in tube form-easy to take out and apply
2) Quite creamy
3) Price is reasonable for the quantity
4) Face looks clean and feels soft after some time of use

Cons of Fab India Papaya Face Pack :
1) Fails in its claims of detoxifying and firming. In fact it broke me out
2) No remarkable effect observed-no after-pack-glow or any long term effect

Verdict: I wouldn’t suggest anyone to buy this since it does pretty much nothing. My tube is still ½ full and is currently adoring the corner of my wardrobe: D
Rating: 2/5

Sukanya July 1, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Disappointing!! I’ve been tempted by this on many occasions with the similar thought of Biotique papaya scrub working so well. Won’t pick it up now. Thanks for reviewing Anuradha! Try Aroma Magic radiance face pack..it takes ages to dry but skin glows after use.

Wow really!!! Thanks for suggesting Ankita!!! I will surely look for it-have to settle between Biotique Pistachio and this one :victory2: :victory2: :victory2: -is the aroma magic one good for oily/combi skin??? ?:) ?:) ?:)

Ankita July 1, 2011 at 11:11 pm

It suits my oily skin Anuradha..but you have to let it dry fully otherwise it doesn’t give effect at all…earlier I used to just wash it off after 15-20 min without letting it dry completely but yesterday I let it dry fully and my skin is glowing ! I have Biotique Pistachio but have’t used it in some time..I found the Aroma Magic radiance one better. Taps reviewed some other one for evening out skin tone yesterday. Mine is the radiance/glow one. :)

Are sotti-I was sooo soo excited to get the coral glow one-magar discontinued-i dint even find it on their website :( :( Why are such wonderful products discontinued is my eternal question-and seriously-I wont advice anyone to buy this papaya pack-a plain multani mitti pack-with lemon juice works 20 times better than this
