Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan Review

Forest Essentials Saundarya Facial Ubtan Review

I have been wanting to review since ages now but didn’t get time.I  want to get away by saying “der aaye durust aaye”…

So here it goes…

Well in Muslims we have a tradition tha tfew days before the wedding, the skin care routine is followed for the bide where ubtan is applied all over the body so that she glows at the wedding day. Since childhood I am very fascinated with ubtans because of the beautiful glow that follows upon applying ubtan. When I came across this Forest Essentials ubtan I instantly picked it up.

This is what Forest Essentials has to say about the ubtan

Forest Essentials Soundarya Ubtan is the next best to “fresh” is the “dehydrated” where everything in the herb remains intact, only the water content is removed. The finest quality herbs that are used in these powders are pure and unadulterated. Therefore, wherever practical, it is beneficial to use the dehydrated herb. When juices, milk, yogurt or rose water is added to these powdered herbs they are “hydrated” and the fullest benefits of these natural products in their entirely may be had. Perhaps not as fresh as nature intended, but closest to nature, the next best thing.

• Smoothes • Polishes • Adds radiance

forest essential ubtan

An ancient recipe, unique in its properties, for a smooth, radiant and brilliantly polished skin. It comprises 52 herbs including Turmeric, Fennel Seeds, Star Anise Fruit, Lemon, Orange, Sandalwood, Fenugreek, Manjistha, Cinnamon, Nutgrass Tubers, Clove, Nutmeg, Marigold, Marjoram, Poppy Seeds, Camphor and Saffron which leave the complexion soft, glowing and gently polished.

Price Rs.595 for 100 grams.
Directions for use:Take 1 teaspoon of ubtan. Mix it with rosewtaer.apply the paste and wash off.

I have been using this ubtan for more than 2 months now and I have to say I am very impressed with this as such I am a sucker for natural products. Although it is mentioned that you have to apply the paste and then wash off. I keep it for atleast ten minutes before washing off. I have to tell you after rubbing it.It stings like hell and when I apply my suncreen after it , it stings too. I guess it is due to the presence of all the Star anise,Cinnamon and clove but the stinging stops after a minute or two..Also, it is a bit difficult to apply since it dries super fast and keeps falling.Hence, I apply it on my face before my bath and after washing off the body.In the end, I wash it off . That way I am able to apply it everyday since being a working mom, i don’t get enough time for skin care.I figured it is the best time to use it.

I have also applied it mixing honey and glycerin instead of rose water and noticed that was it is easier to apply and also stings less.  But then I use it with rose water only because since it doesnt burn I start doubting if it  is actually working or not. 😛 I know it is crazy but I like to follow the exact procedure.

If I leave aside the falling off and the burning part, it was worked wonderfully for me. My skin is brighter and smoother and also, my ance spots hav lightined visibly. I must add that I have recently started taking good care of my skin. I follow CTM religiously now. I have stopped commiting the sin of leaving my house without a sunscreen. So I guess this has also added to the improvement in my skin

This is how it luks after mixing with rose water ( like bird poo)…lol…

forest essential ubtan

Coming to the pros and cons…

Pros of the Forest Essentials Soundarya Ubtan

1) 100% natural. Whenever I use natural products, I feel I am doing my skin a huge favour.
2) Does help in acheving a smoother skin.
3) Brightens up face after use.
3) Helps in lightening the spots and scars to some extent.
4) Although it is a dry powder and also dries up super fast. it doesnt dry my skin. ( I do follow up with a moisturiser though)
5) Quantity is good enough.I use it four times a week and there is still more than half the bottle left. I think it will last me another 4-5 months.

Cons of The Forest Essentials Soundarya Facial Ubtan

1) Stings like hell after rubbing it.Maybe I am harsh in my rubbing but I am pretty sure it is due to all the masala in the ingredients..
2) You have to use rose water with it, which is an added cost. Since it literaaly drinks up the rose water, I have already finished one bottle of fabindia with it.
3) Is a bit messy in application because it falls after drying.

Final verdict: This product works!!!! And I am happy with it. I don’t mind the stinging as long as it works for me!!!! I will give it :-* :-* :-* + 0.5 out of 5. I have taken 1 point for stinging and half point because my rose water bottles are dissappearing after I have started using this.
Will I repurchase it: I want to try out the other ubtans from Forrest Essentials but I may return back to this one.

  10. Hi farha great review, im an IMBB newbie and love the fact there is actually a forum out there for indian products and reviews of international makeup with indian skintones kept in mind.I keep opening this website to read n it truly is a pleasure to go though all the tutorials, reviews, hauls and tips on this site by u all 🙂 great job ..though my parents might disagree considering its doubled my spending on makeup after all the recommendations posted here :p

Ok so heres the main reason for my comment.. like Farha, ive been fascinated with ubtans all my life , and like she mentioned i too only think that a product must be working if its stinging…so heres my forest essentials saga (its long ladies, apologies in advance :p but do read it some of you can benefit from it)

i bought the soundarya ubtan a few months back n it stung a lot n broke me out ..so i stopped using it but that didn’t deter my faith in ubtans, i just went ahead to the forest essentials store, informed the SA of what happened n she convinced me to buy the multani mitti ubtan saying its meant for breakouts and is a more suited ubtan for my skin type…mind u its the same SA who 2 weeks earlier made me go for soundarya…so i thought ok this is the one, this one will be the magic ubtan (yes i’m an optimistic idiot when it comes to believing in beauty products marketing gimmicks) sadly it broke me out further, and this time the acne was painful and all over my cheeks (and in all of my life ive never broken out on my cheeks, always been the tzone)…so i went to the derm, she put me on intense antibiotics and topical gels…it subsided and what do uthink i did next….lol if uve followed my train of thought over ubtan obsessions….i went ahead n bought the forest essentials narangi and nageskar facial ubtan ( do NOT judge me here :p) the SA said its the mildest of all their ubtans n is the best for sensitive skin (do note how i started with normal skin , went to troubled acne skin aaand ended with sensitive skin :p) ok so as expected …..yes broke me OUT …AGAIN :p this time it was baaaad…skin burning…painful cystic acne all over my face…I looked like a chemical burn victim…so i went to my derm, told him what i had been using,…got a nice yelling from him and this is what he told me ..i thought i’d share his wisdom with u all (he is one of those delhis celebrity derms whose appointments have cost me a lot of my salary savings so u might as well take his advice :p) “No forest essentials, no blossom kocchar, no biotique” when i stuttered with “bbbu, bbuut” he was firm n said believe me in my 20 years there are one in every 5 women suffering because of them…plus here;s another tip from him…I suffer from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and he said that due to already occuring hormonal imbalances, the forest essentials ubtans trigger them off further and nobody with pcos should attempt packaged ubtans.ever! so i keep longingly looking at my 3 ubtan bottles but ive learned my lesson..I took a second derm opinion as well n she said that if u have even the slightest bit of sensitive, acne prone or hormonally troubled (pcos, thyroid etc) skin, u should NEVER use packaged herbs like ubtans…though if u have normal glowing skin , u lucky females can…hope this helps girls 🙂

    1. OMG thank u so much for posting this :-*

Ive been breaking out into a rash since day1 but i continued using it thinking my skin might get used to it…I think I’m going back to the store and exchanging it for another facewash may be…cos that suits me fine…THANX :))

    2. To be honest have never heard the name ‘ubtans’ before 😛 Though the review tempted me to try ths I was pretty scary as Farha mentioned it stings !!!!! Touch wood.. my skin is pretty normal.. I am happy with it.. let me not try it.. esp knowing that I have hypothyroidism..

      1. :waytogo: Great beauty junkie, :waytogo: , it feels the same to me when i use this. :spank: . but im not a very regular user so it suits my skin well. :victory: . although my sis find the same results as u gone through.. :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

ur pOst will heLp soOo many IMBBians.. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: very much fOr pOsting & fOr ur pRecious Time to write such a Long & True Results… 🙂 :))

    3. Thanks a lotttttt beautyjunkie :thanks: :thanks: :thanks: coz I was very tempted by this and thought I ll pick it up this weekend. I have PCOS – even thought it is mild, I don t think I ll risk until I know I am completely cured with it. Thanks once again for your lengthy and life saving tip !!!

      1. Oh!!!! Guess all products work diffenrently for all the ppl…i even loooove Lotus but my frnd said it doesnt suit her at all!!!!! I hav similar experience with Loreal shamppos…i hav heard ppl raving abt them but they caused me major hair falll :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep:
Thanks for sharing ur experience beautyjunkie…atleast ppl with sensitive skin can stay off this…

    4. Hey beautyjunkie….thanx fro posting this :waytogo: :waytogo:
Even I used to purchase products from hi fi branda which broke me out lik e anything…neways ,now I use only the dermat’s lotion and I am fine(touchwood touchwood)

BTW if you are so crazy about ubtans ,why don’t you use a homemade one made from beasn????(note:ask the dermat first 😛 )

  11. Agree.   ..actuallly its like you need to call the SAs and ask them for info or any recommendation..which facewash do u use Priti?

  12. You’re welcome guys 🙂 I was very very hesitant in posting my comment here as i;ve never posted any comment on imbb before, let alone give opinions on products…So was kind of intimidated …considering you all are like family who joke n talk here n was wondering if my sudden barging in might be misinterpreted!

I hope I didn’t overstep any boundaries here , didn’t mean to offend anyone or give such a strong opposition to this product, If i did I’m sorry !

Farha, I’m sorry for writing such a lengthy comment on your review page but just felt that anyone with a sensitive skin type or hormonal imbalances should be aware of its horrible side effects…considering all 3 ubtans reacted similarly to my skin…however , my mom who has normal skin uses them now n finds them nice n useful..

I now stick to fresh exfoliants like the ones made by LUSH or homemade ubtans…i cannot blame forest essentials or their SA’s in anyway as they were not aware that i had pcos or that the breakouts were cystic in nature..it was just my own ignorance about how packaged herbs are not the same as fresh homemade ones!
Its taken my skin 3 months , 2 courses of anti biotics, steroid topical creams and gels to remove the painful cysts and had to use only plan cetaphil and water as everything even rose water left burn marks on it…my even complexion now has small dark scars left 🙁 which are hard to cover up as I’m light skinned (nc 25) and the marks are very very dark 🙁 serious pigmention removal suggestions welcome here!

@arthi- ubtan is a paste made by a blend of herbs, also the worlds first exfoliator (from the vedic age) i googled the last vedic age bit for u :p

after typing i’ve realized ive ended up writing another very looong saga so i should stop :p I promise i shall not write more rants of ubtans anymore :p :p

  13. I agree totally Priti…even i dnt like being bugged by SA’s and the one at Palladium was quite sweet

  14. Oh!!!! Dnt feel sorry…its gud u shared ur experience!!!! This is wat IMBB stands for sharing our experiences…and as I mentioned earlier its not always necessary that a product will suit everyone…guess we complex gals hav complex skin too…. :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

    1. 🙂 🙂 ive been so confused for the past few days whether or not to comment, how to address you guys, how not to offend anyone :p
finally ive decided to stop thinking so much n just talk

rati di I went to mac aaj n bought it out fully :p im scared to even tell my parents what all i bought :p so im hiding my haul in my cupboard instead of flauting it :p
