Garnier Fructis Anti Dandruff Shampoo Review

Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Shampoo.

I’ve been experiencing some bad dandruff since mid 2012. I always had oily hair, I know how to handle oily hair, dandruff is a whole new world for me. I did the first thing any internet addict does, I googled ‘Top shampoos for dandruff’. Total Beauty listed 8 of the best dandruff shampoos. Garnier’s was number 8. I thought, how bad could it be? It did make the Top 8 list after all. I was so wrong. garnier anti dandruff shampoo This shampoo did not work for me at all. I used to have oily-flaky scalp, and I ended up with dry-flaky scalp. You may think this is a good thing but it isn’t. Oil can be fixed with a little dry shampoo (or even baby powder in emergencies). But dry means itchy. I do not like scratching myself all day. Who does? On the first wash it got rid of 60% of the dandruff and most of the oil. On the second wash the dandruff was back and it still wasn’t very oily. The day after the second wash, the oil returned with a vengeance. Oil Attack! It was horrible. My hair never gets that greasy the day after washing. Most of the time I’m willing to put up with bad shampoos until the end of the bottle just because they smell good. Garnier’s Anti-Dandruff has a funny, almost clinical smell. Not good. Needless to say, I dislike this shampoo. A LOT. garnier-anti-dandruff-shampoo-1 If anything, I admire Garnier’s honesty. It really is “Effective Against Dandruff From The 1st Wash” (not so much after the 1st wash, but honest anyway). They also have “Active Fruit Concentrate” on the front, looking at the ingredients shows that this is true. They’ve got lemon peel extract and apple fruit extract in there along with sugar cane extract and willow bark extract. They even wrote that it’s a Surfactant Based shampoo, which it is. It uses a harsh detergent – sodium laureth sulphate. So honest.

Price:

Rs. 70 for 100 ml.

Pros:

  •  Ingredients include Zinc Pyrithione (used to treat dandruff. Studies show that it has also proven to decrease hair shedding)
  •  Travel friendly
  •  A very honest product. Does exactly what it claims. Effective against dandruff from the 1st wash with active fruit concentrate.

Cons:

  •  It is not effective after the first wash.
  •  Does not get rid of dandruff
  •  Does not smell good
  •  Uses a harsh detergent
  •  Dries out scalp
  •  Expensive for such a small quantity of product

Swatch: garnier-anti-dandruff-shampoo-2 Ultimate verdict: A horrible product that you would be better without. Don’t buy it. Warn your mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. I do not recommend this at all. Score: 1/5 (one point for being so very ‘honest’)

    1. I haven’t tried any other products from Garnier, so I really wouldn’t know about the rest of them. But this one was a huge FAIL for me

  1. Good review Bhargavi…
Prachi… itna boora…. bohot boora….this is the worst shampoo i have used in my life….causes hair fall like anything… actually all garnier products are same…

  2. hey bhargavi. try new clear anti dandruff shampoo COMPLETE ACTIVE CARE. i hv been using it for d last two months. my dandruff has cmpletely gone

  3. well bhargavi even I want to do some do t your self posts and some reviews of revlon lipsticks can you plz tell me how you sent this review to IMBB ?? i had read der post like write for imbb or smthng but not getting it now … so plz help …

  4. its boooooooooooooooooraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa terribly booooora 🙁 tried it jst 3-4 times & nevr otuched it, now thinking of using it as detergent 🙁 even bought conditioner of the same brand 🙁

    1. I think the best we can do with it is use it as a detergent. I wonder if it’ll work or create a big fiasco with that too

  5. bhargavi its really sad to know abt ur horrific experience from garnier. am using garnier hair care pdts since last 5-6 years and touchwood nvr came across any major issue other than availability. You may still try other variants of garnier like garnier fructis sleek & shine which contain moroccan argan oil, apricot or acerola berry. There is another good shampoo aka conditioner pdt called: Garnier fructis “pure clean clear 2 in 1 fortifying shampoo” which is free from parabens, dye and silicones enriched wid acerola berry extract i have reviewed it in imbb also. It will suit u i think.. 🙂
I hope you will try them and surely love them..

    1. Thanks for the suggestions, Neetu! I’m really glad to see that all hope is not lost for Garnier 🙂
I’ll be sure to try them.

  6. Try The Body Shop Ginger dandruff shampoo, it completely eliminated my oily flaky dandruff and now I use it once a week as a maintenance thing! 🙂

  7. For dandruff – try ketokonazole. It is available at most pharmacies and is the BEST cure for dandruff. It is a bit expensive – I mean a 50 ml bottle will cost you 190 bucks but trust me, one 50 ml bottle is all you need. Try is every alternate date for a month and your dandruff will go choomantar

  8. I tried the Aroma Magic flaky oil which was recently reviewed here in IMBB. I have just tried once as of now and it seemed to work. I don’t blv in anti-dandruff shampoos at all and have nvr tried any. Better try this oil if you still have the dandruff issue. 🙂
