Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24 7 Strengthening Shampoo

Garnier Fructis has a wide range of hair care products which they claim include tailored solutions for specific hair problems. Whether you want to fight hair fall or you want products for dry, damaged, dandruff ridden hair, there will be a Garnier Fructis product that claims to fix it for you. They have large claims regarding the “Active Fruit Concentrate,” which is included in many of their products.

The product being reviewed here is the shampoo from their latest range – “Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Taming System,” which promises to set straight “jungli” hair.  This range also includes a conditioner and a serum.

Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo.

  • Enriched with smoothening power of lemons.
  • Works on stubborn frizz by nourishing it.

My Take on Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo:

The shampoo comes in the standard “Garnier Fructis” green plastic bottle with the green flip cap. There are tiny little “before” and “after” pictures of their model on the bottle.

The back of the bottle gives other details like directions of use, ingredient list and information about the other products in the same range.

Directions of use are to “Lather, Rinse, and Repeat” if required. For best results, they recommend using it everyday and following it up with the conditioner and serum in the same range.

The product flows out of the bottle easily enough and is white in color. It is neither too thick, nor too runny, and is easy to apply.  However, the amount of shampoo displayed here was not enough for my below-shoulder length fine hair. I needed at least 3 or 4 times this amount to cover my hair completely and work up a lather. Going by this, I don’t think this bottle is going to last me very long!

Swatch

Upon opening the bottle, the first thing that hits you is the fragrance. They have said that it contains “Active Fruit Concentrate,” but that won’t prepare you for the smells of so many fruits emanating from the shampoo. Personally, I could detect a strong smell of peaches, though it is not specifically mentioned in the ingredients list.

The scent however is completely washed out on rinsing and does not remain in my hair at all. This is a good thing for me, as I don’t really find the idea of being a walking ad for mixed fruit juice very appealing!

To get an idea of exactly what this product claims to do, take a look at their print ad:

Fructis

The model’s “jungli” mane is transformed into sleek and smooth, straight and shiny hair. Even though you know that you can’t take advertisements for their word, this does seem a bit too exaggerated. That “after” hair has definitely seen a blow dryer/straightener. Don’t expect such drastic improvement and you won’t be disappointed.

My hair was definitely smoother and visibly shinier too. I was quite happy in that regard, but the flyaways on the crown of my head still persisted. I suppose the lemon extract in the shampoo is responsible for the shininess. This effect lasts for the next day too, but weakens by the third day, when I had to wash it again. Also, had I used the same amount of another shampoo, my hair would look like “Ms. Jungli’s” shown above. As for the straightening claim, it definitely didn’t work on my wavy hair. Even if they claim to do so, can any shampoo actually alter the hair structure without any sort of heat treatment? Still, I think someone with nearly straight hair might find that it looks straighter due to the sleeker effect.

Ingredients:

Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium chloride, Dimethicone, Coco-Betaine, Glycol Distearate, Guar HydroxyporpylTrimonium Chloride, Niacinamide, Cocamide Mipa, Sugarcane Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Cocoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Salicylic Acid, Limonene, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Linalool, Benzyl Salicylate, Apple Fruit Extract, Carbomer, Pyridoxine HCI, Citric Acid, Citronellol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Methyl Cocoate, Lemon Peel Extract, Hexylene Glycol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Fragrance (F.I.L. C39795/1)

Pros of Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo:

  • Easily available.
  • Reasonably priced.
  • Long shelf life.
  • No lauryl sulfates or parabens.
  • Effects last for two days.
  • Hair is shinier and smoother.
  • Though the quantity required is large, it does not make the hair rough unlike regular shampoos.
  • There is a taming effect, at least along the hair shaft.

Cons of Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo:

  • A large quantity of product is required to work up a lather.
  • Extreme fruity smell (might be a put-off for some).
  • “Flyaways” on the crown are not tamed.
  • No visible straightening effect.

Verdict on Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo:

This is not a bad shampoo. I liked it for smoothening out my hair and making it shinier. I wish it lasted for more than two days though. I wasn’t very convinced about the straightening claim, so wasn’t very disappointed there. Whether repeated use will give me long-lasting effects remains to be seen. A worrying point is the product buildup, due to the quantity of shampoo required for a single application.

Will I Buy Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo Again?

Maybe, but if I do, I’ll also get the conditioner and serum to go along with it.

  1. I kind of feel that Garnier always makes exaggerated claims :spank:
Remember the lorry pulling stunt with hair :headbang:

did you try using hair iron after shampooing with this?? Usually these kind of shampoos gives long lasting results when used before straightening

  2. Nice review fabida 🙂
Now i will not buy this shampoo, as it is not controling the flyaways, once you buy and use the serum, try to do the review, i am planning to buy the serum :)) :)) :))

  3. Hey Fabida…Good review…though a small thing I would like to point out..The Shampoo contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate whereas U said it doesnt..

  4. i used to like fructis during my graduation days but it stopped working with continuous use. 😐
Nice review Fabida . Obviously a shampoo cannot change the structure hence no one should expect such drastic changes as shown on the bottle but m glad it at least softens the hair. :pigtail: i guess its good the price one pays. 😉

  5. Thank you for the review.. I was gonna get this combo of shampoo plus conditioner.. It doesn’t contain parabens and it makes hair manageable..Fructis has always worked well for me.

    1. I think using the entire system together will work well, especially if your hair isn’t as dry and curly as mine. My hair can be a real pain sometimes :scream:

  6. No shampoo can straighten.. but conditioners and serums can.. atleast to some extent.. great that it gives shine to the hair.. 🙂

    1. try l’oreal anti frizz shampoo.. I know it sounds weird suggesting this shampoo for straight hair.. but it really did work out 4 me.. I have the worst dry curly and wavy frizzy poofy and shrinKY hair.. after usage I was like OMG coz I thot only wid straightener it was possible .. and evrybody were like did u straighten ur hair? And they never believed..!!However after continuous usage I dint get the same result.. it’s been a long gap since I used it .. I think nearly 4 years..? Dunno; ) now I’m excited to try it again! U can use it wid d serum for beat results..!

  7. been seeing the ad on tv and i thot may be i should try this shampoo and conditoner..but dont think i want to try it now cos it doesnt tame flyaways and has to straightening effect!!

    1. Shanaiia, it does have a smoothening effect on my hair, which is saying something since it is quite rough and ‘jungli’ as they say. But using the serum and blowdrying would be necessary to actually get some sort of ‘straightened’ effect.

  8. Nice review fabida 🙂 🙂 Good it worked out for you 🙂 🙂 I personally don’t like the fruity smell of this shampoo   I once happened to use it at my aunt’s place and that was it :nababana: :nababana:

  9. there was not any changes using Garnier Fructis Silky Straight 24/7 Strengthening Shampoo.it became smooth but not Straight
