Garnier Skin Naturals Face Wash & Sun Control Daily Moisturiser Review

Does everybody have a separate face wash for different types of the day? I hope not, it’s an expensive affair and gets cumbersome at times especially if you are as finicky as I am.
So basically I have three separate face washes for three separate times of the day. Weird I know. But works for me. The Garnier Skin Naturals one is my evening time when -you –hit- the gym face wash and the Skin Naturals Daily Sun Control Moisturiser is a recent purchase to try and get sun smart.

Garnier Skin Naturals Gentle Soothing Face Wash:
The face wash contains orange fruit extract and AHA’s (alpha hydroxyl acids) that help retain a healthy glow. It is supposed to be dermatologically tested and suitable for all skin types. It is said to be a formula that is a natural moisturising agent that counteracts the drying effects of water (?) and a gentle cleansing agent that respects your skin’s natural balance.

The verdict: First things first, it comes in a plastic easy to carry along and easy to use tube, which is convenient.

  • The face wash is a transparent gel with a green tinge and you need just a little for a good wash
  • I love the ‘fresh fragrance’ of this face wash. It makes you feel all ready and energized for a work out
  • It does clean thoroughly but I am not sure it counteracts the drying effects of water, that’s a first so far! I thought it was chemicals in soaps and face washes that absorb the oil from your face and dry your skin. So I don’t think it is water, but a few chemicals in this face wash that do leave the skin feeling a little tight and stretched at times.
  • Can’t vouch for it maintaining skin’s natural balance and a healthy glow either – it is a mild, pleasantly fragrant face wash that does a good job of cleansing and that’s pretty much it.

As for sunscreen, now I have very little experience with Sunscreen. Considering we are a tropical country not very many of us are well versed with its use. Most of us put it down to unnecessary indulgence, so did I. In fact the only time I would invest in sunscreen was when I was ever headed down to Goa, and that too the greasy, smelly ones like Banana Boat. Where after a while you’d rather get sun burned then slather on gooey, icky stuff on you. And I still have a huge tube of Banana Boat gathering dust in some corner of my cupboard.

But slowly I think women in this country, including me are waking up to the fact that maybe sunscreen is not a marketing gimmick and needs to be made part of your daily routine. A good sunscreen can drastically reduce the aging of skin due to sun exposure am told and more than aging I have been facing the problem of a really dry skin. So to combat it I decided to pick up a moisturiser cum SPF combination.

Garnier Sun Control Daily Moisturiser with SPF 15

It is supposed to contain a patent formula of Mexoryl SX which provides protection from sun’s rays. Also has added Vitamin E to protect skin against free radicals and delay skin ageing. And lastly has Glycerol and Coriander extract to prevent skin from drying and at the same time nourishing it.

  • The plus of this moisturiser + sunscreen is, it is non greasy. That’s a huge plus as far as I am concerned; I hate greasy, gooey stuff on my skin.
  • It is a light peach coloured moisturiser with a slightly thick texture and spreads nicely over skin.
  • Again a little I found is enough for the entire face, and I use it strictly for my face
  • But there is no escaping the chemical sunscreen smell. This one doesn’t have a pleasant aroma, so it’s more a sunscreen and less of a moisturiser , the way I see it
  • I have been using it for the past few months, which has seen more rain than bright sunshine in Mumbai. But whenever the sun has managed to be at its brightest I found this sunscreen to run a little, as in my face starts perspiring. Not a good sign. Need to try it in the October heat now.

To end with I like both the products they seem to do their job and don’t really burn a hole in your pocket. The face wash is at Rs. 70/- for 100g and the Sunscreen is for Rs. 125/- for 50ml. And since a little of both goes a long way I think it is decent value.

But though both these products are nice and functional, they are not wow. Nothing exceptional or outstanding that would make me repurchase again. And lastly a question that’s been hounding me, how do you really get to know if a sun screen works? I mean, when you spend a day at the beach you know if by the end of it you aren’t really tanned, your sun screen works. But on a daily basis when your sun exposure isn’t that harsh, how do you know? Or you just slather it on and hope it works…I hope it works like that, cause that’s what I am doing.

  1. Hey Kasturi, I had bought this sunscreen last year….as you said, it cause excessive perspiration no matter what time of the year it is………. 🙁

  2. regarding what you asked , I get sun burns on my cheeks if I don’t wear sunscreen. So I wear it every single day. Also , your sunscreen protects you from the harmful rays of the sun and you don’t get premature aging.

    1. Yeah Rati i have heard so many things about sunscreen in the sense how vital it is. Any recco’s on non sticky and decent smelling sunscreen?

  3. Kasturi what you have said about the ‘perspiration part’ of this sunscreen is 100% true.It makes you perspire a lot and if its a really hot day when you are not in an ac environment it makes you wipe your face almost after every 10 minutes and you simply feel disgusted after a while.

  4. Anybody used clinique sunscreen?….Any good? Any other recco’s on a good sunscreen which doesnt make you break out in a sweat and has a bearable fragrance?
